+ Making Of Ghost Opera

I really like Kamelot, a band which knows in my opinion how to mix the puissance of European Power Metal with the Heavy Metal from USA. It's really good because Kamelot is unique and even if some of their songs are really "easy" on a side, it always works and it's always cool to listen to this band really. After a magisterial trilogy ("Karma", "Epica" and the "Black Halo") the new release "Ghost Opera" was really awaited by the fans of the band and well even if it's a good album, I have to say that I'm a bit disappointed this time. I will let you know why right now.

I think that the main problem of "Ghost Opera" will be the comparisons with the three previous albums. You'll say that we can always find bad points on "Karma", "Epica" and the "Black Halo" but personally I really think that those three albums are all real masterpieces of Power Metal. "Ghost Opera" is not bad but I don't know why, something is missing here. Maybe that Kamelot just produces too many albums and wasn't so inspirited for this release, I don't know, but the fact is that "Ghost Opera" is not so catchy than the previous releases. We have some good things though and after a really nice introduction, the two first songs "Rule Of The World" and "Ghost Opera" follow the spirit of the "Black Halo" and I can tell you that they're good songs of Kamelot but they clearly lack of energy too and even if we have some jewels like "Love You To Death", "Morning Star" or "Silence Of The Darkness", the other tracks are ok but surprising for Kamelot. It's just different, not worst but darker and not so "in your face" if you see what I mean. "Ghost Opera" is maybe a bit more complex and even a bit more Prog so it's not so easy of access, plus, the songs in general are more some kind of mid-tempo compositions so don't except any "Farewell" or "Center Of The Universe"? unfortunately.

But "Ghost Opera" is an original album in the discography of Kamelot and even if it's not their best production in my opinion, it's good to see that Kamelot is able to change a bit their sound album after album. The fans will maybe be a bit disappointed by this new release but if they give some time to "Ghost Opera", I'm sure that they will start to understand it a bit more and see that after all, it's maybe a bit different but not so commercial too and a lot more complex than some previous releases and that's not a bad point. When you add that one more time the production by Sascha Paeth is perfect and that the performances of the musicians is really good (one more time) it's hard to criticize the work of Kamelot. Note finally that you'll be able to find some few guests this time (Simone Simon does some choruses for example).

"Ghost Opera" is maybe not the best Kamelot but this is a solid album of Power Metal nonetheless. One more time, be sure that you'll take some time to listen to this release because it's not so easy of access and can be a bit boring at the first listening when you compare it to the previous albums. But a lot of the songs are interesting and a lot more complex than the previous ones so give its chance to "Ghost Opera" please because I think that Kamelot proves one more time with this release that they know what good Power Metal is.

A long time ago we were looking forward to the "Epica" album, an album like "Karma" but better. The same thing happened with "Ghost Opera". All of us, looking for an album like "The Black Halo" but better. But this time, I believe, things are completely different. I think that we can't compare Ghost Opera to another of Kamelot's album. The reasons are explained below...

You are correct w/ the fact that this album is more complex and takes time to grow on you. Personally I much prefer them this way. I love music and takes time to become familiar w/ but when it sticks it grabs you and will not let go.
At first listen I was a bit disappointed w/ this album as well but I found myself unable to remove it from my stereo...after some time I realized that I actually enjoy this album more than any of their previous releases. It is hard to say exactly what it is about this album but it just feels like they have more energy here any b4. If this is any indication of the future progression of their sound I can see myself becoming a very big fan of this band (not to say that I may be one already).

I dont think that Ghost Opera is boring at all
I think that it is one of the best albums of 2007 if not the best of all
I really like the access of it with suprematic violin intro then the great "Rule the World"
then we got orchestral "Ghost Opera" which it is so impressive
I like also "Blucher" (a duet with Epica's Simone), Mourning Star, Love You to Death, Silence of Darkness and the great Ballad "Anthem"
So I think that Kamelot presented a Masterpiece again and I just love it!!!

There's a japanese bonus track called "Season's End", which is a beautiful song by Kamelot.
Still I know it was only released in Japan, but I simply can't find it
I've searched through many torrent sites, but still no luck
If you're from Japan, and have this track, please add it somewhere! I'm pretty sure that I'm not the only one who erally need this song!

Japanese Edition Bonus Track from Ghost Opera:

12. "Season's End"

I would just like to say that if anyone is still in doubt about purchasing Ghost Opera, do it. Yes, you will need to play it a few times, or more. But the best music isn't accessible right away.
In comparison to the other albums.. I would put it between Karma and Epica.
I can't believe the comments about perfection and The Black Halo. (I also can't believe none of Kamelot's albums are rated higher than 8 anymore)
Yes, it was good. No, it was not that good. In fact for the first time I was sure I was listening to *filler* tracks on a Kamelot album.
Thank god that doesn't happen on Ghost Opera.
As others have said.. the title track, the Human Stain and Pendulous Fall are the highlights. I haven't heard the Japanese bonus track.

I'm eagerly awaiting more material from the best power metal band out there...

It all comes down to this: After 5 years, I still remember The Black Halo. After only 3 years, I don't really remember or want to remember Ghost Opera.

This is .....an alright album. Its kind of boring but the fact that each song focuses on a different musical theme keeps things interesting. Ghost Opera and Human Stain are the strongest tracks on the album 6.5/10

HUGELY disappointing....I guess after releasing a masterpiece like Black Halo, it is always difficult to make a stellar follow-up. I still haven't heard "Poetry For The Poisoned" so expecting things to get better.

After The Black Halo Kamelot released a non interesting cd. Honestly i think this album is a bit boring. It doesn´t do justice to this great band. Lack of ideias? Maybe...
