Yes indeed, The Sword is great straight-forward bluesy Doom, they're actually playing near where I live this Wednesday, I might go. Another favorite of the "Stoner" or "Desert" genre of mine is the Argentinian band Dragonauta. With a name like that (pulled from Sleep) you know they got to kill. Check out there wicked video for their song "Tomegapentagram."

I hear stoner metal in the album Masters of Reality by them some songs on that album that stand out alot to make me think this are Into the Void, Sweet Leaf, and Lord of this World. There is definently a big Sabbath influence on alot of Stoner bands I never meant to refer to them as a full blown stoner metal band because their not I only wanted to not their influence.

Those songs sound smore to stoner/ddom but not stoner, I can hera stonetr metal there, its more doom and if you wnat try band who calls Aced Bath stoner doom metal band

Stoner rock/metal is such a thin ground that stoner rock = stoner metal, and stoner metal = stoner rock, for simplicity. Call it what you want. I love spiritual beggars, and Grand Magus is pretty solid too, kyuss are great, the melvins...list goes on D:

Whatever is it called (stoner metal, stoner rock, stoner/doom), the stoner genre is one that has been growing a lot on me lately. I began with Acid Bath (more sludgy than stoner, I guess, especially on the first album), then Cathedral, Sleep and Corrosion of Conformity (their latest album is very stonerish) and then got to know Agents of Oblivion (the band formed by the guys of Acid Bath after they broke up. Released one self titled album. Psychedelic!) and, before I realized, I was hooked!

Right now, I'm getting to know better the genre with Kyuss, High on Fire and Spiritual Beggars.

Maybe I should begin smoking pot for a better... erm... enjoyment... of the genre.

Should Mastodon be considered stoner? i really like their "Leviathan"

Anyway. I like Orange Goblin and Trouble and of course some Black Sabbath stuff from the early albums like 'Jack The Stripper/Fairies Wear Boots'. But that's all though ^^

Mastodon is Stoner metal, huh? They are a really cool band.

Mastodon, afaik, is sludge, which is like stoner doom...kinda.

Stoner rock/metal is such a thin ground that stoner rock = stoner metal, and stoner metal = stoner rock, for simplicity.

Please do not mistake metal with rock. There is a hell of a difference.
Can anyone explain the difference between stoner and sludge because I am kind of confused.

COC isn't a stoner metal band...they're actually quite all over the place; hardcore, thrash, doom...

@lenesu: The only difference that I know: sludge metal generally avoids the positive outlook on life that is common in stoner metal, and is usually far more atmospheric...

Well new CoC is more stoner than anythign else. Okay they started out as a straight up hardcore band and then evolved into a hardcore thrash crossover and from there into doom and now stoner.

I totally agree with you. CoC really is the band with the most changes in style I think.

Well lil bit about Black Sabbath ist doom in early akbums whit Ozzy I woud not say how much but first whit Dio its heavy metal and well about Tonny Martin I just saw 2 videos and its ehh ballads, but IMO moust doom albums are first 'Black Sabbath''

Acrimony is pretty interesting band, especially their second album Tumuli Shroomaroom. And also a band that I recently discovered - Church of Misery - their songs are about famous serial killers - when I was listening to their album Master of Brutality, I also read about the serial killers they are singing - the music really gave the space to fantasize and think how those distorted brains might have worked.

The only band from this genre I really like is Down . Their new album is kind ov good.....their debut is still the best though.

anyone familiar with Ufomammut? Stoner metal from italy, but with a more focused psychedelic approach. Pretty amazing stuff.
