| Mercury Eye - Promo 2010 http://www.myspace.com/mercuryeye Mercury Eye is yet another gothic metal band with female vocals of the pseudo-operatic kind. This kind of music has fairly limited appeal these days and for a band to make any kind of impression it needs to be really phenomenal in some way. Mercury Eye is not phenomental in any way.  | Grimus - Gutter Earth http://www.myspace.com/jerseygrimus Who's up for some slamming death metal from New Jersey? Slam is like the mother-in-law of death metal: thick and simple, though brutal when needed. Grimus are pretty flat-out solid and all, but don't really do anything to stand out from the rest of the pack. Though if you're into bands like I Declare War and other aficionados who're keeping it real, you are destined to enjoy the fuck out of this rampaging bull of an EP. | Cloud Zone - Demo http://www.myspace.com/cloudzonemusic Cloud Zone play a moody mixture of post-metal and djent with very harsh, crusty vocals. Imagine what Neurosis would sound like with Meshuggah riffs and you get a pretty good idea what Cloud Zone is all about. This little demo impressed me a whole lot and I am really looking forward to what these guys can come up with in the future. Cloud Zone gets a full recommendation from me. by Jupitreas |  |
 | Elimination - Through the Eyes of Madness http://www.myspace.com/eliminationband Elimination is one of those bands that, for some reason, still look up to the dinosaur metal genres like traditional heavy metal, US power metal and 80's thrash. Although the band clearly owns the entire Iced Earth CD collection, they try to recycle as less as possible. With their successful "new tricks with old bricks" approach, Elimination is certainly worth its salt, and they even manage to sound somewhat fresh. Though a 55-minutes full-length is just bound to get pretty repetitive pretty fast. by Thryce |
| Still Storm - No Rules http://www.myspace.com/stillstormtheband No Rules is a little digital EP filled with mid-tempo, harsh crossover that reminds me of the slower S.O.D./M.O.D. songs and early Prong. The EP is fun enough, but the slow tempos generally don't incite a particularly high amount of excitement. Although a song like "Leave Me Alone" is quite catchy, the band needs to focus on their songwriting abilities because with proper production, their shortcomings will become very apparent. Currently, the amateurish production job gives the EP a punishing Amebix vibe, which works to Still Storm's advantage. by Jupitreas |  |
 | Your Pain Is Endearing - Your Pain Is Endearing http://www.myspace.com/yourpainisendearing Your Pain Is Endearing submit a far more comprehensive product than most bands do - their EP contains 6 songs and all are mini opuses with a lot of things going on in them. Stylistically, these guys play a mixture of death metal and metalcore. There are some very good riffs here, for example in "The Eden Project: Prototype 71450" rips away with fast and catchy palm muted goodness. They should consider dropping the drum machine though, since it doesn't really work with their music. by Jupitreas |
| Corrosive Carcass - Rot.In.Pieces http://www.myspace.com/recreation666 I've never expressed my appreciation for click-track until now. It's great. Corrosive Carcass should consider looking into it. Ok, fair enough, the sloppy timing isn't something that rears it's ugly head constantly, but it is prevalent enough to be a significant problem. I suppose it also wouldn't hurt to have the drums audible from time to time. Death metal has had some of it's finest moments at it's most simplistic, crustiest, raw pinnacle, but there's a line, and Corrosive Carcass crossed it. It has the potential to be a raw, brutal piece of death metal, however, the recording is so unbelievably amateur none of the potential is really delivered. by Luke Godin |  |

Corrosicve Carcass is a fun piece of old school death metal and should be listened by anyone who hates that modern shit trying to pass themselves as death metal. Raw as fuck, sloppy, clearly inspired by the old school of Swedish death metal and with some grindcore influences.

I really liked Mercury Eye! Didn't expect to, but turns out I disagree with the description. Their songs on myspace have great energy, a really well focused sound, and are memorable already. The vocals weren't operatic either: on some songs they were low and bluesy and on other songs they were belted in a higher range. Nice group to watch! I'm happy when people figure out how to do this tough genre WELL. Cloud Zone and Elimination were not spectacular for me but good/nice/enjoyable nonetheless.

Written by Marcel Hubregtse on 11.02.2011 at 16:55 Indeed, and I had that feeling through a few tracks on the EP, but there was quite a number of parts where the timing was god awful, though much of this sounds like the tracking was off, and not necessarily because of poor musicianship.
