Metal Storm Awards 2009 - Now Open For Voting!

The 6th annual Metal Storm Awards are here, and they need your votes! To make your life easier we picked a selection of nominees for most categories, though in some (like The Biggest Surprise/Letdown) the decision is traditionally entirely up to you. Still, if your favorite album of the year is not included, please don't trash your monitor or send us hatemail - in each category you can add a write-in vote (on second thought, hatemail is our favorite form of entertainment, so it's OK too). And feel free to use this thread for discussion.

The voting will be wrapped on the 28th of February, with results posted the next day.

So the excuse for "hordes of chaos" not being nominated is... not enough staff member liked it?

Nearly 400 fans rated it and it has an average rating of 8.4... but not enough of the mods liked it, so f*ck them.
Neat.

Anyway... not a big deal to me. I'm not a Kreator "diehard," in fact... "Hordes of Chaos" is their only album that I really like. I just think it's funny how much the nominations reflect a "who gives a sh*t" attitude about what the users on this forum think.
Oh well, if they deserve it, I suppose they'll win with the write-in vote...

Oh well, if they deserve it, I suppose they'll win with the write-in vote...

for starters, you might want to check the fourth bullet point on 1.1 of the FAQ. i just find your rant laughable. some mods might not be as amused.

further, if we just went with what the community voted, what would the point of all this be? why do the whole awards thing at all and just dole out an award to an album that the most people heard and liked* ?

what would be the point?

as it stands, the most popular bands will already win every category to begin with. we are on first day of voting and i can already tell you who will win in 90% of the categories.

at least with our system of voting for bands on even footing based solely on whether or not staff enjoyed it, some of the smaller bands that deserve exposure get it.

but i suppose just scrapping them and handing out nice shiny imaginary trophies to the most popular band in each category, while ignoring the also-rans would be so much fun. just like the Terrorizer awards.

and as funny as your and deadmeats rants are, the best part is in another month when we announce the winners, we'll get just as much whining from people who don't think the big popular band(tm) deserved their imaginary trophies, and that they should have gone to more kvlt band(tm).

damned if we do, damned if we don't.

* - just because more people have rated it than another album doesn't mean it's any better. it means more metal "fans" simply have not bothered to take the time to check out the lesser known artists. many of them are putting out stuff that surpasses the "SSDD" (Same Shit, Different Disk) put out by the more popular bands of their respective genres.

Dude, you're pretty much as cynical as they come, ease your foot off the pedal a bit. In response to other people's bitching you come up with a bitch rant of your own and in turn I'm in the line of fire feeling forced to express my bitchy thoughts. This is just one giant bitchfest.

Yeah it ain't to hard to tell. People have to stop bitching in order for you to stop busting their balls but I gather you like doing that anyhow haha.

only when warranted. frothing at the keyboard in all caps or telling the staff to basically "fuck off" (or worse, f*ck off... ) because their favorite album didn't get in will get a rise out of me.

had someone posted something like "sucks Cobalt didn't get in, oh well, i'll write them in" it wouldn't get a response. i can understand and relate, even if i don't think the album in question merited inclusion.

I've seen Lamb of God written in for a bunch of categories, are all the votes in different categories put into the proper one and added up or did those guys just waste their votes? Or is Lamb of God, and other bands that are written in multiple categories just contending in multiple categories? Just wondering.

Nah, only the write in votes for the correct category are added (so Thrash for Lamb Of God). If releases pop up in the wrong category then we just delete them. Otherwise any one person could vote for the one release multiple times.

So if you notice your write-in vote has gone, you've most probably put it in the wrong category.

Use your best discretion, keep in mind that you have until the end of February to vote, so if you come back and your vote is deleted, it's probably because we made the executive decision to delete it. As long as it's not too outrageous (like placing Dragonforce in doom or something), it probably won't get deleted, remember the staff & elites are basically normal human beings with severe alcohol problems, so we go through classification dilemmas as much as you mortals.

Though if you really want the final say on doom, I think Marcel would be the best person to ask, so either PM him or look in the mirror and repeat his name 6 times.

It is an extremely borderline release, true, but so is While Heaven Wpt (doom, power, progressive). My personal slight preference concerning Argus would be to put in Doom.

Yes, I think you're one of the very few that doesn't consider it doom at all It is borderline, I agree, but still doom enough to go into the doom category. Btw, you don't have to vote for it. And I am sure you won't since you hate it

I know you prefer your doom to be more death/doom or to be more extreme. But then again there are people that don't consider that doom at all (just go to the Hellride Music Forums to see what I mean) Btw, then you might also have problems with Candlemass in the doom cetagory, I suspect
