Both Bands were influenced By Guitarist Bill steer, and were both pioneers of their genres. Napalm Death Is credited with inventing grindcore and are also among the most influntial Death metal acts out there. Carcass, while not the Inventors Death Metal, they were among the first out there, and also incorperated a good amount of grindore influence in their music. Notably, Michel Ammot, Founder of Arch enemy, Is a former member of carcass. So, Let the votes Fly, who do you prefer? (I voted Carcass)

....yeah, I gotta admit, that is pretty sick. Then again, ND are pretty sick, even if I like carcass better overall.

Ya Napalm Death didn't help with establishing the grindcore genre at all. :

And for the record, At the Gates predates Carcass for melodic death metal. Napalm Death predates Carcass for grindcore.

ND has my vote. I don't even like grind-era Carcass. /blasphemy

Carcass, musicianship level is quite different, can't judge the quality of music by influence as that is a hindsight judgement and has no barring on the quality.

Napalm Death for sure. I agree with everything Troy Gallant stated, even with not liking grind era Carcass as well as the later more progressive era. I like everything ND has done. Time Waits For No Slave was an amazing album, one of their best in my opinion, witch shows how awesome they are even to this day. Utopia Banished is one of my favorite death/grind albums of all time.

Napalm Death. Every time I listen to You Suffer I cry because of the emotional lyrics and the great solo.

Uh...yeah they did.

I never said at the gates doesn't predate Carcass, it's just that Heartwork dropped right around the Same time the first gothenburg bands were becoming notable, so they in a way also helped with the subgenre.

And carcass was also doing a lot of grind work during the first wave of that sub-genre too. Once more not saying they're creators, they're innovators.

I voted for carcass just because of the Heartwork album.

Carcass' melo-death releases should be excluded from this since the style is so much more accessible than anything grind.

If you had to compare grind to grind, who would you choose?

I don't understand why Heartwork gets so much praise, Everything before that was way better.

I would still vote for ND over Carcass, I think ND just had a bigger impact on me when I was first getting into to more extreme Metal and when both were playing grind (before ND went Death Metal and Carcass went Melodeath) ND was the superior band.

I like Carcass's songs more, and I think the level of musicianship is higher in Carcass as than it is Napalm Death

I agree, I'll listen to old carcass any day, but anything after Heartwork just doesn't do it for me.

I kinda feel like Heartwork was the end of my beloved Carcass haha.

Still probably Carcass, The vocal work on ND really isn't my thing.

I enjoy Carcasses first album a little. More than any ND anyway.

I agree with you 100% here.

I love angry and politically charged lyrics! The more I have been listening to hardcore and grind lately, the harder it is for me to answer this question haha.

To my knowledge grind ore evolved out of punk roots, like a more extreme form of hardcore punk. Carcass's album was more gore death.

I just tell my friends it's fast death metal
