If you love Jonas Renske's voice and the softer Katatonia material that never seems to make it on an official LP ("Unfurl", "Sold Heart", "Second", etc...) then this may be your favorite Katatonia album ever. The Fall Of Hearts unfolds like a fairy tale, slowly and carefully, with many unexpected twists to surprise those who hang in there for the entire journey. In an era of instant gratification The Fall Of Hearts is an enigma; it demands a lot of time for small rewards and whether those rewards are worth it will be entirely determined by the person listening.

Another amazing, depressive, Swedish band returns after four years with a new album entitled The Fall Of Hearts, a name which automatically guides the mind to a repeat of the last album, Dead End Kings, and a continuation of Katatonia's way after Brave Murder Day. Brave Murder Day is one of the best classic doom/death metal albums of all time, and I believe the band was playing every song under The Rain Without End! But after this album, Katatonia's style changed little by little, and that harsh vocal sound, furious like a demon's frustration, has now changed to a beautiful, yet doleful butterfly; it seems like that was the final goal from the beginning. Undoubtedly, four years was enough time for the band to release a new challenge for their fans' ears.

I admit I listened to this expecting something generic and boring, like their last several. I loved Last Fair Deal and Viva Emptiness, but then Night Is The New Day was only "good" and didn't entice further listens; I didn't even hear their latest one. Perhaps because of that I missed some evolution? I was completely surprised with what they did here. Anyone who says this is the same old Katatonia sound is either deaf or maybe finds all of their post-90s melodic incarnation to sound the same. Who knows

This is a welcome change and a beautiful exploration of a new direction! I'm not even done with the first spin and am already in love. It gives me a similar feeling to when I first heard Viva Emptiness. I can't wait to get to know this music better.

Quite a dull and uninspired album. The band is unable to forge something fresh and original out of all these Post-Rock & Shoegaze influences and the decline that has set in after Viva Emptiness continues.

Katatonia is still going down down down

there are no works like the the period between 1994 - 1998
then Kataonia had been destroyed and they dont understand that anymore !!!!!!!

You make little sense. This album may not be a milestone, nor the crowning jewel of innovation, but it to warrant a 1 is just plain non-sense. Why don't you admit that you wanted to give it a bad mark to influence the rating of another album? That would make more sense than the gibberish in your sentences.

As for Katatonia being destroyed, that is nonsense. Not evolving or refining their sound, that may be more accurate, but they established their own sound with VIva Emptiness which they have explored since then, with this album showing a few changes here and there, yet far from being a sound changer.

What's up with Katatonia B-sides being awesome? Regardless of their newer stuffs being somewhat bland, I really dig this song.

When did this get labeled as alternative rock? Definitely not rock, although there might be elements of that. Alternative metal with prog leanings (rhythmically) imo. Applies to everything post-2003 (prior not sure).
