U?kumgallu - Rotten Limbs In Dreams Of Blood

Great bm from the guys behind Ash Borer. Kinda like Skaphe but without the pyschedelic-y sound and riffing.

Flaming Anger - 1997 - Biosphere II

Doesn't sound highly impressive but quite good nonetheless. Also as a 1997 release, kind of late to the party. I have a feeling that their demos are better, which I'm gonna check out later. 7/10

Conrad Schnitzler - Blau (1974)

This is not technically metal music, but hear me out. You know Euronymous from Mayhem was a huge fan of Schnitzler's bizarre avant garde synth music and he even managed to get Schnitzler to compose little something to their debut ep back in the day. I think this record perfectly demonstrates why some early black metal musicians found his body of work so intriguing, since the man didn't shy away from making his audience feel uncomfortable and frightened. As far as I'm concerned, this might be his darkest and best album. I don't know how much this stuff has influenced more experimental side of black metal and especially the more cosmic and psychedelic synth stuff, but I would think there is a connection.

Spectral Incursion - 1989 - Spectral Incursion EP

Heavy metal with unique songwriting approach. Kind of what happened with Manilla Road with Courts of Chaos, but this is actually one year earlier. 9/10

Ripped - 1991 - Blotter

You don't hear stuff like this every day. And maybe it's better that way, because it would be harder to appreciate it if it was a mainstream approach in music and heard all the time, it wouldn't stick out even in crossover. Rates somewhere between 8-9

audio quality sucks from cassette, though

This goes to many towns. Tech thrash and Poland in 90s, count me in 9/10

Crying Steel - 1987 - On The Prowl

The album cover is bad, the music is rather good. As an Italian band this doesn't sound very different from Vanadium. 8/10

Mad Butcher - 1985 - Metal Lightning Attack

Classic German speed metal debut like Running Wild's and Stormwitch's but one year too late to 1984 party. Good record, songwriting is somewhat too basic 7/10

Great recommendation.

Last week I was swinging "Green River Thrill" and it was fucking impressive. Not much differentiates from Metal Lightning.

Altered Moves Two - 1992 - Shifter Of Minds

Killer stuff, and this album actually manages not to make the mistake of being too long like lots of these Dutch tech/prog bands usually do. 8,5/10

Corum - 1997 - Riffhead

Surprising record for late 90s thrash with prog songwriting; lotsa bands wouldn't attempt it anymore at this point and many bands who were doing it quitted earlier or went with groove and to other directions. Interesting style in songwriting and playing, quite original approach. Well, not the best record ever.

edit: upped rating to 9/10. Superb stuff

Corum - 2000 - Not Myself

Man, either this band is on a spree or I'm on substances -- or maybe both simultaneously Killer one record and kind of a surprise from these unknown guys to do two such records in a row. The album cover cracks me up for some reason 9,5/10

Annex - 1990 - Powers That Be

Pretty nice classic prog with not bad songwriting at all. I don't think it's impressive enough against genre's big releases, but for quite an early record it doesn't seem disappointing either. 7,5/10

Lorn- Arrayed Claws

Been listening to this today. Really good black metal with parts that remind me alot of Deathspell Omega and Blut Aus Nord. Definitely recommend if you’re into that kind of weird black stuff.

Unleashed Power - 1993 - Quintet of Spheres

This thrashes hard. Similar sounding band as Corum. Somehow this didn't get noticed by many people and only got appreciation by Joppe's of Steele and other obscurity seekers. 9,5/10.

Glow - 2020 - Countless Skies

While I would argue that the last ten years haven't exactly been 'golden years' for metal, I have been coming across a few bands like this lately. MS says melo/death, but it's more proggy and atmospheric than that, and probably more in the realm of atmospheric black metal of the Agalloch variety. Either way, it's a pretty good album.

Thyrfing all , while drove online, so cant judge seperatly but I damn like older albums whit Thomas Väänänen on vocals, folky Swedish English lyrics and Windir
Then Jens Ryden came and band was more black, blackened, more Ereb Altor smaller vibes. Interesting band

Punisher - 1998 - Disillusioned

Quite strong tech thrash assault. I'm not sure if it's just me, or is this release little bit too late for such genre and release date. Vocals, riffs and drums have some death metal inclination while main genre is thrash. Interesting record, and while not one of the best ones, I think it should rate above 7.

Martyrium
I put all bands album when drive car just to listen. Copy mp3 to mobile phone and then listen all at same time, no stop n start between albums - I prefer have one by one , not all in one, but when drive this is best
I have to say this sounds a bit as Maltese Cradle Of Filth

Mordor - 1986 - Metal (EP)

Classic German heavy metal with a heavy sound; generally speaking I have only problem with their songwriting, which could be better. The first song isn't very good, but the second one gets better. If you would add little bit more speed to this material it would be killer. 6/10

I listened to their second demo too and I might comment on it ater.

Mordor (GER) - 1987 - Second Birth (Demo)

Kind of a dilemma is it heavy or power metal if we talk about genres. As demos go, this one sounds really good and even better than Helloween's Walls of Jericho and Running Wild's Gates to Purgatory in studio. Good release, an 8/10 from me

Troll (USA, AZ) - 1988 - Time Tells No Lies (Demo)

Really good material and killer guitar playing with great recording quality as well. Surprising that these guys didn't get a record deal and make full studio album. I think this is the only release they did. Well, at least we've got this. 8,5/10

Sounds like Accept with speed and heavy metal approach. Even with the mimicky it's really good record and kicks ass. 8/10

No Quarter - 1983 - Survivors (EP)

Rather good British heavy metal and as early as 1983. It's only under 14 minutes of duration and the last song is almost eight minutes and it achieves some of an epic feel to it. Great release; 8/10

No Quarter - 1994 - The Best of No Quarter

Sounds like demo material to me with a couple of songs from the Survivors EP. Someone posted elsewhere that the Bird of Prey EP is hard to find, and I agree, I couldn't find it myself. This release is rather good and proves that NWOBHM from the early 80s doesn't really get old even 40 years after. It's quite awesome actually with big emphasis of melodies in heavy metal. I think that this kind of metal just died afterwards, it just died, especially at 90s. Rates 8,5/10 for me.

Good luck on finding that Bird of Prey EP (send me a link)

Invader - 1986 - Children Of War

Not quite the best, but quite good speed metal nevertheless. If this band would be more popular folks would say: yes it's quite good and it would be accepted collectively. YESSIR, but like I said, it's not quite the best, proper speed metal done properly 8/10

Thruster - 1986 - M.I.A.

Killer heavy metal which never got popular. We will never know the exact factors why 1 band succeeded and why 2nd didn't, and will there be an investigation why things happened as they did? Killer sounding band and record 8,5/10; killer record
