Of course people have different opinions as to what is heavy, brutal etc.. Sure there are countless grind/death bands who think they need to play crappy chromatic/atonal riffs and blast over everything, but IMO that isn't what makes something heavy.
For me, it's "Realm Of Chaos" by Bolt Thrower. I was going to try and explain why I think this is the heaviest ever, but there is a review on MA entitled "Deathgrind's Ultimate Avatar" which describes it perfectly. Read it, you might be convinced. Any contenders?

"Ingesting Putridity" by Visceral Disgorge. Crushing, brutal death metal at its finest. One of my all-time favorite albums. All of Gorgasm's stuff is pretty heavy too.

I would have to say "Reign in Blood" or "Painkiller" considering the time they were made.

It seems this thread has had a few replies since I've been, erm, away. Written by ToMegaTherion on 27.10.2011 at 02:50 The album would have to meet ALL of the criteria you listed. It should also have some memorable riffs as well, one's that get stuck in your head, which is why I stated in the first post that most of the ultra brutal death/grind stuff doesn't do anything for me. Obviously it's all subjective so everyone will come up with a different answer anyway! That's why I've realised this thread is a bit pointless haha, but I did start it a while ago, when I was young and immature. Maybe I just wanted to force my opinion on everyone else... "Realm of Chaos": most brutal album ever haha! Lately Grave's "Tremendous Pain" EP and Infestdead's "Jesusatan" have been doing it for me. "Epidemic of Violence" by Demolition Hammer is probably the most brutal thrash album I'm into right now. The furious drumming, riffs, guitar tone and throat tearing vocals on that album just make me want to rip living things apart with my bare hands. Good feeling.

21.12.2011 - 05:58 Written by [user id=2943] on 19.12.2011 at 11:52 I agree, i find brutal death metal tends to be quite repetitive after a very short amount of time. I find that stuff like Doom metal tends to provide heavier riffs anyway. Newer Candlemass for example is very heavy, and the clean screeching vocals suit it beautifully. Particularly their last few albums have been brilliant. King of the Gray islands and Death Magic Doom are both catchy and very heavy in the guitars, bass and drums. But it is subjective, I don't consider alot of Black Metal to be all that heavy just they have fast drummers.

Ion Dissonance - Solace. Holy hell, dudes. This album just makes me want to destroy everything. The slightly raw production is perfectly devastating.

19.07.2012 - 20:45 Written by Troy Killjoy on 04.01.2012 at 21:07 Can't even lie, this is just heavy ass powerful music. Manowar is fucking awesome. I think the heaviest album ever might be Reign In Blood. But some doom can also just be heavy as hell too (Call Of The Wretched Sea is a monstrous album) so I agree with Mr. Doctor.

A thread about heavy albums and no mention of Disembowelment's Transcendence into the Peripheral? let me fix that, Otherworldy and crushing, and the shitty production is also a plus.

According to some website, AC/DC's Let There Be Rock is the heaviest album in the world... weighing in at exactly 1.88 lbs.

21.07.2012 - 19:09 Written by X-Ray Rod on 21.07.2012 at 19:03 Indeed, the contrast between the calmer moments and the crushing doom makes it all the more heavier, one of my favourite albums ever.

25.07.2012 - 03:47 Written by SunFalcon on 25.07.2012 at 00:14 Something far less melodic and cheesy than the likes of Scar Symmetry and company. Maybe some old school death metal with a really thick production a la Bolt Thrower, or some crushing psychedelic funeral doom a la Esoteric.
