02.09.2010 - 20:19 Written by MeloDeathViking on 02.09.2010 at 19:57 "Swim" is indeed a great song. Its been a while since I last heard Colony in full, but it is a great album. I'll need to give that one a listen again soon. lol Maybe in some country somewhere, it would be allowed.

02.09.2010 - 20:28 Written by Angelic Storm on 02.09.2010 at 20:19 Today was the first time I listened to Colony in like 6 or 7 months and after hearing it again, I have no idea why it took me so long to get back to it. Behind Space 99 and Insipid 2000 are two of my all time favorite In Flames songs. I wouldn't be suprised if there was a country that allowed it haha.

03.09.2010 - 02:56 Written by MeloDeathViking on 02.09.2010 at 20:28 Although "Behind Space" was actually on the first In Flames album, I definitely prefer the 99 version that's on Colony, to the original. And in that version, and live, it's one of my all time fave In Flames songs too. The first In Flames album I heard was The Tokyo Showdown, and "Behind Space" was one of my very favourite songs from it. When I heard the original, I was quite disappointed. I think because the guitar tuning is a full step higher on the original, is one of the main reasons I dont like it as much. It's not as powerful as its later versions IMO. And doesnt sound as In Flames-ish. Well, Ive heard of people marrying their horse, and motorbike, (??!) so it wouldnt surprise me either.

03.09.2010 - 15:47 Written by Angelic Storm on 03.09.2010 at 02:56 Yeah, that's exactly how I felt about the original, which is why I love the '99 version so much. The other album I need to go back in listen to is Whoracle, I've been craving it but I keep forgetting to put it on my iPhone so I can listen to it at work, and I never remember to listen to it at home. I've never heard of people marrying their motorbike, but I've heard of people doing..."other things" to their moterbikes and cars

"The Jester Race" is awesome. The melodies on that one are killer, and I love Anders' early vocal style.

There's no doubting that the earlier works of In Flames are the best albums they've produced. I think that 'The Jester Race' and 'Whoracle' are their best work. I set my cut-off point at 'Clayman', anything after that just isn't up to standard. In Flames used to be one of my favourite bands but as the years have passed I've been listening to them less and less, to the point where I hardly ever listen to them these days.

The Jester Race is brilliant, definitely their best. December Flower has one of the best guitar solos ever. Plus, Anders' vocals are the best on that album.

My favourite IF song is actually "Dialogue With The Stars", both for playing and just enjoying as a listener.

Good back in the day, not as good now. They went from oozing with the melodic death metal feel to it being almost completely absent. New album is not so great. My favourite album is the Jester Race, but I like Lunar Strain a lot as well. Colony and Clayman are both good for me too, I like Colony a bit better of the two though. Best song for me is Goliaths Disarm Their Davids. So awesome.

I heard The Jester Race and I don't think it makes the cut for me. The vocals are TOO ANNOYING. The guitars are pretty decent, but the vocals just ruin it for me.

It's 100% clear imo that IF decided to move on, for better or for worse. I saw them live on saturday night, and this was the setlist: 1.Sounds of a Playground Fading Play Video 2.Deliver Us Play Video 3.All for Me Play Video 4.Trigger Play Video 5.Alias Play Video 6.Colony Play Video 7.Swim Play Video 8.The Hive Play Video 9.The Quiet Place Play Video 10.Where the Dead Ships Dwell Play Video 11.Fear Is the Weakness Play Video 12.Come Clarity Play Video 13.Ropes Play Video (2nd time played live ever) 14.Darker Times Play Video (Live Premiere) 15.Insipid 2000 Play Video 16.Only for the Weak Play Video 17.Delight and Angers Play Video 18.Cloud Connected Play Video 19.The Mirror's Truth Play Video 20.Take This Life Play Video with so many "nice but slightly meh" songs from their last album it's quite clear the direction they want to go in for now. which as a concept is a great thing, but doesn't really blow people's minds when used in concert. as a 2 and a half year In Flames fan, i must say i would have loved to hear Bullet Ride, Biosphere, or even the 2-minute Jester Dance. still, the show on the whole was extremely professional and very enjoyable. the atmosphere was great, the fans were quite crazy, one of the few instances of real crowd surfing i've ever seen in concerts around here, a wall of death during The Hive, moshpits all around, and even a small circle pit during The Mirror's Truth.

03.10.2011 - 14:07 Written by Valentin B on 03.10.2011 at 11:32 I still haven't heard the new album yet, but still.... for a long time In Flames fan, that is a very poor setlist. No Behind Space, Jotun, Embody The Invisible, Pinball Map, and NOTHING from The Jester Race? I'd be very disappointed if I went to see them, and that was the setlist... The Hive would be a nice surprise though, I love that song!

03.10.2011 - 15:28 Written by Angelic Storm on 03.10.2011 at 14:07 they always play The Hive in concert, my biggest surprise though is how they ommited My Sweet Shadow, which imo is one of their best songs since they had gone the modern metal path.

03.10.2011 - 15:37 Written by Valentin B on 03.10.2011 at 15:28 Really? I didn't know that... I always thought Jotun was the only staple from Whoracle on the last couple of tours... Or WAS, seeing as they've started leaving it out. lol Yep, that is a surprise too, although they still played Cloud Connected and Trigger, which are two of my fave songs from the more modern In Flames. Take This Life is good for an encore too... but still for a setlist with 20 songs, there's far too few older songs in there.

04.10.2011 - 12:29 Written by Mattybu on 03.10.2011 at 23:54 Yep, nothing from "The Jester Race" in a 20 song setlist is very disappointing. They are playing here in a couple of months time, but if they haven't altered the setlist by then, I probably won't go... I might finally listen to the new album today.. it was a while after "A Sense Of Purpose" came out before I listened to that, and it wasn't as bad as I was expecting, so...

04.10.2011 - 23:50 Written by Angelic Storm on 04.10.2011 at 12:29 I figure a ticket for them would be overpriced now anyways (now that they're popular!) so my future money to spend on In Flames will likely first go to getting Lunar Strain and the Subterranean EP which I saw at HMV once and regret not buying SO MUCH

In Flames are very good, but it's the vocals that ruin everything else. I've listened to The Jester Race by them, and I really liked the instrumentation but the vocals were very bad.
