It kinda is. I can see both sides of the argument, but using triggers is definitely easier. Like Lordz said, most old school death metal bands don't use triggers and it really pays off. Take Suffocation for example.

Well, I don't question George's ability. Most of the time, triggers are used for production reasons also. If you doubt these guys ability because they use triggers, try and talk-down Mike Portnoy. I dare you.

Just picked up In The Beginning yesterday. All I need is Karl Sander's solo album and my Nile collection is complete....until the new album comes out.

Sander's solo album is awesomely peaceful! Pick it up ASAP Dream Of Hate. He's currently in the process of recording his second solo effort now.

I was expecting more though. It's basically just all of the egyptian instrumentals in the Nile cd's, but longer.

Well, I love the Egyptian theme that Nile uses because it makes them unique and gives them a darker edge, but his solo album made me wanting more.

17.07.2006 - 15:35 Written by Clintagräm on 17.07.2006 at 07:40 Same here. The Egytptian themes make Nile so much different and in some ways more superior to other death metal bands. As for the stuff on the solo album, they were indeed discarded ambiences that were going to be on Nile records but we left over.

I dont think I would like Nile all that much if it wasnt for their Egyptian styled themes I would think the were just another DM band, thats what makes them so special.

I lvoe the Egyptian parts tohugh not bieng a huge DM fan I get bored of some of their DM parts tohugh they're technicaly excellent. Songs that combine alot of egyptian parts with death like Unas Slayer of the Gods are awesome. Karl Sanders' solo album si amazing except for the last 2 tracks. The narrated part sounds like Rhapsody or something.

27.07.2006 - 02:33 Written by Throne of Rats on 24.07.2006 at 11:49 I want to agree with you, yet I want to disagree. As a band in general they are excellent. The DM aspect of them is really good, just a good DM band to begin with. But, the Egyptian parts really add to the music and make them unique.

I think drummers these days have reached a peak as far as playing without triggers. You can only sound so good without one...once you reach that point a trigger is the next step to enhance the music. I don't think there is anything wrong with this, because you still have to be amazing whether you are playing a trigger or not. If none of you are drummers, you shouldn't even be taking part in this discussion. If you are...you should all get triggers once you get good enough.

It depends on the triggers. Sometimes they sound better, giving the bass a deeper, more solid sound, but on a lot of cd's the triggers sound fake as hell and don't have any bass to them. Nile uses them well though.

Nile what an awesome american band man ! So intense , so fucking extreme , those graveyard vocals , those tunes and solos are incredible... I got this albums: 1995 Festivals Of Atonement [EP] 1997 Ramses Bringer Of War [EP] 1998 Amongst The Catacombs Of Nephren-Ka 2000 Black Seeds Of Vengeance 2002 In Their Darkened Shrines 2005 Annihilation Of The Wicked I must say this 2005 Annihilation of the Wicked kicks ass! I'd still listen to them if they didn't have the Egyptian sounds in their music but I don't think I'd be able to label them as one of my favourite death metal bands. They Egyptian ambiences MAKE Nile. So unique.

I agree, technically they're great so they don't really need the Egyptian sound to play good death metal but the Egyptian ambiences make them so unique

Seems like this convo's bled to death. So George is a good drummer and the Egyptian Themes are adding, what more is there to say. I love em?
