I already have quite a few albums to look forward to in 2016, so I figured we'd go ahead and get this thread started. The two so far are the upcoming Ctheilist and Lycus albums. Ctheilist embody all that is great with strange Lovecraftian death metal, while Lycus are an incredibly solid funeral doom outfit.

This is kind of like an instrumental mix of Obscura and Beyond Creation. Unbelievable display of musicianship with relatively high quality songwriting. Gets a bit too close to technical masturbation at times, but overall it's quite enjoyable. It really sounds like my idea of a best-case-scenario of what Obscura could have released as their most recent album. This will certainly be getting more air-time from me than Akróasis.

Cool, I've been waiting for that to come out. The song they released a while back was quite nice. I appreciate the rougher production which instantly makes it stand out from others.

Some Sleep-y stoner/psych doom coming out later this year that can still be heard here. Pretty solid.

This is mental. Some of the best "jazz" I've heard in a while. Possibly better off in the non-metal section, but there's definitely metal in it. Good description already on the Bandcamp:

"This heavily improvised release pushes the boundaries of deconstructionist noise-jazz with departures into doom, grindcore, prog, dub and hip hop. The result is something like the unholy congress of Ornette Coleman, Morbid Angel, Bill Laswell, John Zorn and Bohren & Der Club Of Gore."

For fans of Combat Astronomy's 'Kundalini Apocalypse' perhaps, though much less metal / more jazz.

This is amazing, thanks for the rec

Awful, awful cover art, but this is some rather nice melancholic (rather than cavernous and evil) doom death / death doom on Iron Bonehead. Actually would suit fans of early Katatonia I reckon.

This is going to be fucking spectacular. "For fans of Demilich and Timeghoul." Sounds pretty spot on to me. That art too.

And again, only one song available from this, but I am definitely piqued in my interests even though it's a very spartan, minimalist song. Ethereal, droning neofolk vibes, but also somewhat foreboding. I have a feeling it's going to be good, whatever it ends up being.

Some classy sounding doom, too.

It really does rule. Timeghoul oddly enough was one of the first death metal bands I got really into

New Gnaw Their Tongues song, apparantly from an split planed for this spring. It is a return into the sound of loder GTT EPs and aderlating materials, with pronounced drone sound and absence of guitar "melodies". Still not the best he could do, but I love when GTT goes into this direction.

One of the better atmos black songs I've heard in a while. Instantly more memorable than others, driving melodies, nice rhythms, fun and rare solo at the end too, etc. I dig it.

More cavernous death stuff from Iron Bonehead. Pretty sure I've seen that cover before elsewhere.

Upcoming Mondo Drag. They made one of my fave psychedelic rock things last year so I expect big things of this one too.

Not identical.. But it reminds me of this one.
Listening to Asphodelus just now... Very interesting to see Iron Bonehead taking other genres. It sounds A LOT like Dance Of December Sous to the point of almost bing a copy (that opening riff on the first real track is almost a clone!) Bu who gives a fuck... Katatonia's debut as pretty unique so more of that is welcome!

Ah, good old Muknal. I went to their Facebook page, and it turns out it is a famous painting, but it was edited, which is why Google kept finding their album. It's this guy.

And yeah, DoDS was my immediate thought too. I agree too, bands always seem to copy BMD, so a bit of DoDS worship is defo not a bad thing!

It is like tribulation gone totally gothicless, less deathy, black metal and more prog rock.

It sort of made me think of Wrath of The Weak's 'Alogon', only far too far into noise territory.

Fantastically written old school black metal. Currently making my way through their previous album and they have an amazing talent for songwriting and musicianship. Great leads and perfect black metal vocal style. I still think the drums are a tad too forward at times, but only slightly. Looking forward to this a lot.
