Few bands manage to build as much hype before their first album is released as Spiritbox have done, so there was a lot of anticipation for Eternal Blue - how well does it live up to expectations?

I've been quite excited for this after checking out their back catalogue earlier in the week and finding it all to be pretty excellent; unfortunately, I don't get the same from this record on first listens.

Yeah i see it the same way. Their previous EPs were more exciting

The album is a lot softer than I was expecting, not nearly as heavy as their previous EPs. "Secret Garden" is a better indication of what the majority of this album is like as opposed to "Holy Roller". It's still good, I like their slower songs too and I think Courtney has a fantastic clean voice but I was hoping for more of her growls. Last thing to note, this "Sam Carter" guy ruins Yellowjacket. I'm sure it'll grow on me so I'll listen to this more before rating.

Highlights: Circle With Me, Holy Roller, Silk in the Strings, Constance

It's good, but i was expecting something similar to the last iwrestledabearonce album. Perhaps in their next album the heavyness is present.

Decent, I could understand why many would like this. But not something that I enjoyed a lot subjectively. I was hoping for the same feeling I get listening to Vola, but alas.

Radio friendly junk.

I have no problem with radio friendly music, but this album is definitely junk. Shame because I actually quite liked the s/t EP

Yeah, if anything I was too generous with my review. I don't really understand how people who got on board with the band with the pre-Eternal Blue EPs/singles can be particularly enamoured with this album; it has its moments for sure (I still like the first song a lot, as well as the middle stretch of tracks), but it's got too much uninspiring material, and Yellowjacket is just straight-up aggravating

Me neither, but it's unfortunate when a band dumbs down and over produces their sound to fit the Sirius XM fan base.

I'm really impressed with how diverse and coherent this record is. Laplante's voice obviously is the most brilliant element, but the sound layers the band so meticulously constructed also helped to make this work some of the best things from the alternative scene in many years. I think it deserves way too better rating.

I thought I would look into this album as it's gained a lot of recognition over the last few years, and I never managed to get round to listening to it until now. It's got a magnificent modern production and sound quality, a generous amount of breakdowns, and god knows how many elements within it's structure. The performance is very impressive all-round, especially her clean vocals which at times remind me of Amy Lee from Evanescence.

Saying all that, is this an album I actually enjoy listening to? No it's not, despite it being so well made, produced and performed, it just doesn't excite me enough or wow me in any way. I find the modern and clean sounding production undesirable, I'm not keen on the futuristic cyber synths, and the melodies don't stick with me at all, I'm also not a fan of her harsh hardcore vocals. I'll take most traditional metal genre's such as death, black, thrash and heavy over the modern metalcore and deathcore genre's if I have to be totally honest, despite there being appreciated moments within the genres

Cool album that mixes Amaranthe-stylish pop metal with all kinds of things like progressive metal, atmospheric soundscapes, djent, metalcore. It's melodic, well produced etc. I liked it so much I had to spin it again right away

The first song is quite good. But the rest of the album felt ultra polished and plastic, devoid of any passion. I didn't enjoy this one.
