The principal argument of the two precedent albums of Dionysus was the presence of Olaf Hayer that you probably know for his work with Luca Turilli. Their first album was not good at all and extremely boring, when their second one, "Anima Mundi" was a lot better and gave some good hopes for the future. Unfortunately, their new album "Fairytales And Reality" is a come back to the quality of the first album and I really doubt that a lot of people will ever find a real interest in this release.
The principal problems of "Fairytales And Reality" is, first, that the album clearly lack of energy and second that it's clearly uninspired. You'll not find horrible songs on the release but damn it's boring in less than three seconds. The melodies, the (slow in general) rhythms are all really conventional and unoriginal and when I had to listen to this album I didn't find anything really catchy. It's just weak and since that we all "heard it all before" I don't really see why you should lose your time with this release.
Though, I must add however that the second part of the CD is definitely better. A song like "True At Heart" or "Tides Will Turn"(if you like this kind of sweet Euro Power of course) is definitely better, heavier and stronger. So, I just don't understand why we have this real separation between the beginning of the album and its end and I have the feeling that some songs are just here? to be there and to have a full length album? But evidently I will not blame the performance of the musicians, especially the one of Olaf Hayer who still has his excellent voice. Too bad that the compositions are so average?
This album just lacks of energy and inspiration and I don't see why you should have to buy this release excepted if you are a die-hard fan of the genre. If you really want to discover this band, please try their second album "Anima Mundi", which, without being outstanding too, was a lot better. Now excuse me, but my bed is calling me, I have to follow my nap?
