I don’t know the first fragment about complicated philosophical banter, so I’m glad that First Fragment’s second album can at least let me pretend that there is no Heidegger hiding in here (although I don’t speak French anyway, so what does it really matter?). But if they ditched the complexity in titling, they sure didn’t ditch the complexity in music.

It is so good that I can't believe this thing even exists. The kind of album that pops up once in 20 years. Besides technical metal, if you have a classical music perspective, it is really full of eargasms. At first day of my listening, I was having constant tears of joy.

Some serious credit due to these guys an unbelievable amount of musicianship has gone into this, and some serious blood, sweat and tears must have gone into those jamming sessions.

Admittedly, the length put me off a wee bit at first, I thought this was just going to be overboard on technicality, and it would lead to nothing that excites me, so I would eventually become bored, but no, that doesn't happen, instead I find the instrumental work so impressive that it's actually quite addictive to listen to.

The vocals slightly put me off, they're not great tbh, but I just want to keep listening to the amazing instrumental work. I think the instrumental version would be much better for me.

Little late to join the party but here I am nevertheless. Musicians of First Fragment are truly TOP notch! No wonder, since Dominic Forest (ex bass player of Beyond Creation) is in it. However Gloire Éternelle certainly can make every listener uncomfortable & confused cause it at times sounds like a chaotic noisy salad without much purpose and hence I give it 8/10. There is just too much going on too frequently to be rated any higher. Certainly there are super chill, slower, instrumental, hauntingly beautiful jazzy parts which i would prefer more of. These parts are perfect along with some catchy not to complicated tech-death parts. This album truly requires maximum attention span we all lack and an out of the world capability to dissect it. Definitely it takes more than a few spins to achieve somewhat similar effect...although inferior. In my opinion guys from FF at times went overboard in their complex arrangements & forgot that album needs to be memorable and comprehandable in order to get maximum rating. Gloire Éternelle is a 72 minute showcase of unseen talent which is sadly at times misdirected but otherwise superb!

I tend to disagree with this, it depends what you're looking for. Personally the fact that this album requires attention and multiple listens is exactly what makes it special. There's a draw to go back to it. Also, I don't rate Tech/Prog Death with the same mindset I would a good ol' Thrash Album. Its just not the same vibe & feel. Anyways, to each their own and in any case 8 is a pretty solid rating.
