The ‘80s was the golden decade for thrash, and this is why so many bands are still dropping albums today that sound and feel as if they were recorded four decades ago. Quite frankly, most of them suck. Trastorned’s Into The Void supersedes the mediocre not because it’s nostalgic, but because it has this brutal accessibility that the good releases in the genre are known for.

South America is a renowned place for unhinged, old-school thrash, and there are many new bands in the continent that just love replicating this sound. Chileans Trastorned have all the necessary ingredients for such a lesson in violence; punky energy, razor-sharp riffs, bestial drums, aggressively spat vocals with boatloads of echo, a pounding and audible bass, and a fantastic retro production that ties everything together nicely. Most importantly, they have fine songs and tons of devastating riffs. The tempo is shifted in a masterful way that keeps you on your toes all the time, the rawness and the speed offer pure adrenaline rush to the head, and the atmosphere is haunting and electrifying.

If you like albums like Exodus’s - Bonded By Blood, Demolition Hammer’s Tortured Existence, Morbid Saint’s Spectrum Of Death, and Sepultura’s Schizophrenia, you will appreciate Into The Void. I am not saying that it’s on the same level as these albums, but it greatly reminisces of their atmosphere and impact. And not much criticism is applicable here, save the lack of originality; I mean, even for the most jaded of ears, as far as thrash is concerned, this debut is a moshing sensation, and it is so much fun in its throwback character.

There is no need for too many words. Trastorned themselves set the example by getting their point across with just eight songs in under thirty minutes. At the end of the day, when we are talking about this genre, the real question is how hard an album thrashes. Well, Into The Void thrashes really fucking hard.
