Everybody knows that Katatonia is famous for its amazing discography but since that I had the chance to see them live in 2006, I can tell you too that they're extremely good during their concerts and all the ones who didn't see them live yet but know the cool "Live In Krakow ",which was released in 2005 with the "Black Session" box-set, can confirm my words. Today, I have good news for you, a new live album with a DVD will be released this year by their loyal label Peaceville Records and you can trust me, this "Live Consternation" is a great product one more time.
"Live Consternation" is a double live album. Double, not because we have two CDs but because we have one DVD which feature the concert recorded at the Summer Breeze festival 2006 (Germany) and a CD with the audio recording of this concert. The album is nicely presented in a classy crystal box with a red beautiful cover one more time designed by the genius Travis Smith. The production of this live DVD/Album is perfect with a really clean sound where we can even hear the great audience of the Summer Breeze. In the end it's just hard to find something bad with this DVD, it's clearly a top notch product.
On the "Live In Krakow ", the performance of Katatonia was good but not so perfect and the voice of Jonas was even a bit average sometime but with "Live Consternation", no problem. Katatonia probably played one of its best live performances this night and you'll be able to see that the band, even if the members aren't so active on stage, is a killer on stage. They don't move a lot but they're all extremely charismatic and know how to transmit their passion of the music to the crowd. Some of you will probably regret that some songs like "Teargas" or "Dipossession" are missing on the set list (and I agree with them) and that the length of the show is a bit short (only 51 minutes), but you'll have to remember that it was recorded during a festival and for the "The Great Cold Distance's" tour. So be prepared, only some few old songs are in the set list but the new ones like "July" or Soil's Song" (no "My Twin", that's a bit weird?) are perfect for the live. The atmosphere of the concert with this little disturbing music between each songs is perfect, the set list is good (even with this lack of old hits) the sound is great, the recording of the image is well-done so what can I add? Nothing really, "Live Consternation" is simply a must for the fans of Katatonia.
"Live Consternation" is a great release and will be a perfect souvenir for all the ones who saw Katatonia live last year. The DVD is great, the live album is nice so do you really need something else? NO, just don't wait anymore, go to your records shop and buy this release as soon as possible.
