Certain to see more prog releases in 2012 than in the entire 70's

Good god, I hope not...

Not the slightest. But my therapist said venting is healthy, so here I go...

This is actually better than the anti-power metal crusade, since the progsters can return snarky comments

Prog rock, maaaaybe. I haven't listened to a lot of newer prog rock so I can't judge. But prog metal is actually somewhere equal in quality to the prog metal of the late 80's/early 90's, because of all the small bands. They rock the shit out of everything.

Sorry for all-caps, Mr. Troy. I did not include Amorphis in my list so I hope that you will give me some credit.

Regarding prog metal/rock debate ... the only thing that I like about older releases from 70s and 80s is mellotrone and bass guitar was more audible back than. Nowadays, there are more possibilities for bands to experiment and to include vast variety of genres in their music... beside obvious progress of equipment and production techniques.

Oh you're that guy?! Had no idea you were a user here.

And to be honest, the latest Amorphis wasn't a complete trainwreck. It's actually sitting in a pretty comfortable low/mid 7 spot on my list.

You're Serbian... it's in your blood to be lazy.

Just look at this list for proof of that.

As my dear friend Mikael Akerfeldt once said... this is a list that will get me chicks backstage.

I just need to find a backstage first...

to anyone who'd include Silent Stream of Godless Elegy so high on a list. It's truly a special release!

You have a lot of gems packed into this top 20. I'm glad so many people appreciated Autumn, Arkan, and Leprous. Three releases I feel should have gotten more attention. Also, good on Ghost Brigade and NeraNature You also gave me a few ideas for my 2011 hangover listening....

Thank you for your kind words, let me know when you finish your 2011 album list - maybe I can catch a few bands/albums that I've never listened before.
