This is close to my final list for this year.

Insomnium
- Shadows Of The Dying Sun
2014 With Omnium Gatherum's guitarist, this band has turned themselves around, their best album since their debut, if not their best yet album ever. Fans of OG will be able to recognize some similar melodies or note progressions as on "Beyond", but far from a deja vu experience it feels like the two bands have found the middle ground that they always needed.

Scar Symmetry
- The Singularity (Phase I - Neohumanity)
2014 I've been waiting for this for a long time, and without a doubt it's the band's best since Holographic Universe. It may have taken SS and guitarist / song writer Per Nilsson 3 albums per vocalists to find the right balance but he's done it again. This time Per takes up the full song writing reigns and the result, while perhaps not as "good" as the direction seen on Holographic Universe, is without a doubt their most authentic and inspired work since then. It feels like Per had been cooking this up for years, a tie for with the above 2 albums for me for sure.

- IV - One With The Storm
2014 My first intro to this band, and the spiritual successor to "Isolation Songs", two all time classics.
