The Best Metal Albums* From A To # (U-V)

This list is meant to be an extensive, but by no means exhaustive, collection of the greatest (modern) metal albums and eps. Running the gamut from avant-garde to trve norweigan black metal. *As someone who is young in age, my tastes tend to revolve around the period of the 80s to the present.* Although certain metal albums from before will certainly be featured, the period of the 60s-70s will be under-represented. I refer you to this excellent list to gain a better appreciation for some of the best metal from that period:

1. Uada - Djinn
2. Uaral - Sounds Of Pain
3. Ufomammut - Eve
4. Úir - Óenach Tailten
5. Ulcerate - The Destroyers Of All

The Most Overrated Albums & EPs on MS

Albums and EPs rated 8.6+ from 100+ votes which I've given an 8 or lower to, ordered by my rating then MS rating then number of votes.

If I haven't already done so, I will likely re-listen to these in the hopes of understanding why they've received so many 9 and 10 votes.

My other lists:

1. Anathema - Judgement
2. Anathema - Alternative 4
3. Paradise Lost - Draconian Times
4. Motörhead - Overkill
5. Van Halen - Van Halen

A Thrash List But Not Exactly From A Thrasher

Thrash may not be my favorite metal subgenre but it's one of them. There have always been thrash albums I always get back to with great pleasure and I am usually happy when thrash veterans get back with great music.
I say not a thrasher because I am stuck in the past, as it's easily to be seen in the list, new bands have not impressed me much, especially when they predictably wear their influences on their sleeves.

1. Kreator - Terrible Certainty
2. Metallica - Master Of Puppets
3. Slayer - South Of Heaven
4. Annihilator - Never, Neverland
5. Death Angel - Act III

Club: Technical/progressive Music That Ain't Over The Top Wankery

this list is related to this forum thread, please check
this list is a collaborative one and will surely grow ; it is a proof of concept for a club feature, see here.

Hi people. I'd like to create a list of albums with the purpose of being as complete as possible. I'm looking for music that is technical or progressive, although I really don't like when things get out of hand, with crazy vocals in 4 different registers building tension and brutally stoping to yield it to a shredding solo in mixolydian helped by drums in 11/12 which try to imitate the synth syncopation in counterpoint, for ten seconds before jumping into something else.

1. Angra - Angels Cry
2. Angra - Holy Land
3. Angra - Fireworks
4. Angra - Rebirth
5. Angra - Temple Of Shadows

The Best Of Dissonant Metal

Metal art of dissonance as I love it.
- on album per band, unless the band has very different albums.
-I'm not picky for albums released before 2000.
-I'm not picky for genres that are to some degrees unusual for the dissonance, like sludge metal.

This list is open to suggestions.

1. Abyssal - Novit Enim Dominus Qui Sunt Eius
2. Alkerdeel - Morinde
3. Altars - Paramnesia
4. Amnis Nihili - Christological Escalation
5. Antediluvian - λόγος

Evolution: Sailing The Seas Of Prog

Recently, instead of scouring too much the albums of the year I'm in, I decided to take a deeper journey and appreciate progressive music (prog metal/rock). While I'm still in the early beginnings of my journey, I decided to make a list to the albums I fully listen to so that I can keep charting my voyage in these vast seas. Some albums are not yet added because I need to listen them well and grab my favorites out, and some bands are on queue. I'm also eager to hear some recommendations, so thanks in advance for them!

1. Ayreon - The Human Equation
2. Barren Earth - The Devil's Resolve
3. Blotted Science - The Machinations of Dementia
4. Control Denied - The Fragile Art of Existence
5. Dream Theater - A Change Of Seasons [EP]

Bands I'm Grateful To Have Seen Live (in rough chronological order)

I consider myself very lucky to have grown up, not just on the West Coast of the United States, but right in the heart of one of history's great metal scenes--the San Francisco Bay Area. So many awesome memories from so many incredible local bands, with other acts from all over the world regularly passing through as well. Time to memorialize in no particular order.

1. Anthrax - State of Euphoria
2. Helloween - Keeper Of The Seven Keys Part II
3. Exodus - Fabulous Disaster
4. Testament - The New Order
5. Voivod - Nothingface
