When left to their own devices, Periphery’s guitarists go hard.

Hopefully the darker cover/title is a sign that they're going heavier this time. I want less Peripherying and more of their unique heavy.

Viscera was a great EP, so naturally I'm looking forward to this! The first 3 singles are all pretty good so far, this one is especially tasty:

Quite disappointed by this. I guess I got what I wanted in that it's way heavier than the last EP, but what a drop in memorability. All the songs sort of mesh into one with the exception of that Periphery-esque track and the orchestral one (which was well done indeed). Might give this an 8 after another listen, but the apple fell really far from the tree. Anyone who didn't like this I'd suggest to check out the last EP - it's all you can ask for in modern metal.

A Nice Guy
It's very technical, and melodic in some parts, but some of the album sounded more like a jamming session to me, rather than having any real song structures, it's still pretty good musicianship though, I especially liked the intense drumming, particularly at the beginning song. And I thought "Null" came as a surprise, a nice short atmospheric song, before turning back to technical madness.

I also like how out of the blue the slow tranquil title song is, but the final song is imo the best on the album, it sounds partly Opeth inspired, like something off Blackwater Park, but with a weird jazz influence thrown in. All in all it's pretty good, but a wee bit bizarre.
