Otra, the seventh album from In The Woods..., is remarkably the first record released by the band with an unchanged line-up from the preceding release. From listening to Otra, I get the impression that the band’s songwriting is benefiting from a sense of stability.

Well, after several spins already I'd say this is a very strong album, it's very dark and melodic and has some impressive songwriting and clean vocas. I might have to spin it several more times over the next few days but so far I've certainly taken to it more than their previous release.

"The Crimson Moon" is a big standout for me. The Other tracks were good but they didn't have the same impact on me that this track.

The album as a whole was enjoyable, but I feel like In The Woods... is the type of band that I always enjoy but never love.

Heard the full album, and I can honestly say that it IS a great record..even a masterpiece.

As for vocalist Fjellestad, not sure how he can have mixed reactions as he is an excellent vocalist and complements the music perfectly.

Also, there weren't any less harsh vocals/moments this time than there were in the past albums since the reunion, so can't agree with the reviewer on that. It's a perfect balance.

Finally, I highly recommend listening to the deluxe version with 4 bonus tracks. They're all awesome songs ("Old and Alone" is a highlight). If for any reason you didn't get your fix of harsh vocals on the main album, the bonus track "Disgust and Awe" is especially satisfying.

The opening track is brilliant, and "The Crimson Crown", too. Not entirely prog, definitely not entirely black, zero avantgarde, but very good album.

I think this a well put together album and they are a talented act, but I didn’t enjoy this much. Not sure what it is specifically.

The things you shouldn't know is an absolute drag, so it was a rough start for me.
The rest of the album was a little better, especially Crimson Crown, but it's a yawnfest overall and it's mainly because of the monotone vocals

The Deluxe Edition has 4 additional tracks that are just as excellent and captivating as the previous 7 tracks.

monotone vocals

This comparison will sound nuts but at times they reminded me of Matt Shadows on Sounding the Seventh Trumpet

Following up Diversum is a tall order. Good songs, but I'm left wanting more from these guys. The arrangements aren't captivating, but the musicianship is there in spades. A bit of a letdown on the heels of Diversum. Vocals are great, the songwriting just feels a bit subpar for these guys.
