What ever possessed Cradle Of Filth to record an album like "Thornography" is beyond me and probably beyond many of their fans as well. Don't get me wrong, I adore earlier works such as "The Principle Of Evil Made Flesh", "Dusk... And Her Embrace", "Cruelty And The Beast" and even "Midian", but their newer releases have never been much to my liking save for a few tracks from "Nymphetamine". Here we have an album that is lacking anything remotely similar to the band known as Cradle Of Filth. I know some will argue and claim that they are "always evolving" or "changing their style" and yes, for some bands this is a good thing... but when it comes to the filthy sextet from England, sometimes stripping down your sound is the last thing you want to do.

I am an huge CoF fan, as i saw they birth, growing and amazingly brilliant musical moments in almost all albums. But this one was really a HUGE disapointment. I don't know what the hell happened to them, but it was clearly a mistake or a really really bad decision. But as a great band they are, they also realized it, and the amazing comeback "Godspeed..." proved that this was only a "thorn" in their long and sucessfull musical journey. Let's us hope this never repeats. Of course, that what i said doesn't apply to cradle haters, cause that is another story... THEY HATE EVERYTHING BY CRADLE...It's cool to hate CoF... Wanna know something? It's NOT! It's stupid Maybe you don't like the music, that's ok with me. Don't listen. But that hate is ridiculous, really. I would say even that is sad.

So don't like? No prob, WE don't give a fuck about it.

For me This album could be much better with the following arrangement :

01. Under Pregnant Skies She Comes Alive Like Miss Leviathan
02. Dirge Inferno
03. Tonight In Flames
04. I Am The Thorn
05. Cemetery And Sundown
06. Lovesick For Mina
07. Rise Of The Pentagram
08. Under Huntress Moon
09. Murder In The Thirst
10. The Snake-Eyed And The Venomous
11. Halloween 3 : Season Of The Bitch [Halloween 2 Remix version]
12. Courting Baphomet
13. Devil To The Metal

This was actually the first album with harsh vocals I heard... Maybe I only like it because of that, but I really do enjoy it. Haven't listened to much of COF's past albums though, this might suck in comparison.

This album has nothing but to offer an insane "nowhere harsh" vocals and Dave Pybuss strong bass which incredibly failed at the end of the tunnel. Overrated? fuck yeah. It is and put "Nymphetamine" in to that too.

After listening to "C&B" and "DTHB, they never get back their own glory.

...this might suck in comparison.

It does. Although I'm not much of a fan of anything they've done. Godspeed is probably my favorite release of theirs and even then it's only about a high 7 for me.

Haven't heard Godspeed but to me their second and third albums are the best stuff they have done. Everything else usually gets a meh from me.

Well believe it or not (I don't give a f*ck to be honest) but I like most CoF albums from "Dusk and her Embrace" to "Darkly Darkly Venus Aversa". Maybe people will complain about evolution but people also complain when you keep doing the same things... Look for the paradox here. Took me long to buy my own copy but since I enjoy this album, better not be ashamed of it

PS : ordered "Manticore" yesterday tho I could hardly get into it but with CoF I'm never disappointed (I'm not into EPs tho).

For me this isn't an absolutely terrible album, just average, and especially by COF's standards. Some songs here are really well written and performed-'I am the thorn' is one of the band's most creative songs in my opinion, and 'The rise of the pentagram' is excellent. However, other songs weight the overall quality down, particularly 'Dirge inferno' and the entirely unnecessary 'Foetus of a new day kicking'. Not their worst, but it veers towards that point at times.

I can 2nd Godspeed on being their best release. And I previously enjoyed their 2nd and 3rd albums most too but enjoy the maturity and cohesiveness of Godspeed more. It's worth a checkout if you haven't already(seeing that I'm quoting you from 2 years ago...).

First time listening to this album. It's... fine. Not really as terrible as some of you might have me believe--there were a few enjoyable moments on it--but it's also not really something I'll probably ever listen to again.

When I first heard the album back in '06 I was extremely disappointed but it has grown on me in recent years. I still dislike the production on the drums: that clicky-clattering that is mixed far too high in the mix and crushes the atmosphere. For better or for worse, I consider Thornography to be a bold step for the band, being so accessible, but I appreciate the fact that Thornography isn't as stripped down as its predecessor. It has a good amount of variety and, in retrospect, it's refreshing to listen to in so far as it doesn't really resemble any other album of theirs. But at the time, my expectation level was still pretty high, despite previously being disappointed with Nymphetamine. Bonus tracks like Murder in the Thirst, The Snake-Eyed and Venomous, Courting Baphomet, and Devil to the Metal should have been on the album in place of weaker songs.

Can't decide which album is their worst work this or "The Manticore and Other Horrors", they're both terrible work. Very small keyboards and melody, more with guitars and drums. Songs aren't memorable at all. I listened to both this and "The Manticore and Other Horrors" album multiple times and can't remember a single song from these albums. This album is a huge disappointment after "Nymphetamine" which is almost a perfection and the masterpiece.
