Let no one ever have to question the consistency of the Norsemen in Enslaved. From the icy black metal of their debut, right down to the more complex nature of their recent material, the band have garnered a well deserved reputation as mature and innovative songwriters. 2015's In Times is a slightly more accessible mark in their discography, one that, while good, also feels as though it could have gone a little bit deeper.

I remember really digging this on first listen, but I had a big play of all the Enslaved albums I have on my iPod yesterday and out of the six, this was probably my least favourite. It's still a very strong album, it just seemed to be lacking some of the inspiration and memorability of other albums, and I think the more melodic nature of RIITIIR worked a bit more for me. Still one of the better albums from 2015 though, and Daylight and Nauthir Bleeding are both cracking songs

I really like it, but I think these guys are on the cusp of autopilot territory. As good as the songs were here they were a tad predictable and felt like retreads of the past two albums at points. Still better than RIITIIR though. I'd like to see them take a few more risks on the next one.

I actually liked RIITIIR quite a bit, but I agree on both points: that this one is slightly better, and that it also sounded a bit too much like previous albums. Still a great one, but I hope they get a little more experimental with the next album, or at least attempt to expand this current sound into new territory.

Maybe the new project that Ivar Bjornson is doing with the songwriter from Wardruna will act as a bit of inspiration to try new things--working with another songwriter and trading ideas and all. I mean, it might just make him add more folk-elements to the music (which might not be so bad), but hopefully it'll encourage him to try newer things and push Enslaved even further than they've already gone.

This album is rather good overall. Love "Building With Fire", and the clean vocals are great.

"One Thousand Years of Rain" is an awesome track too.

Had never heard of this band until their song "The Watcher" was featured in the extreme metal episode of Metal Evolution, and it grabbed my attention the first time I heard it, so of course, I had to check it out when I saw they had a new album out. Glad I did.

Overall, probably #2 on my list of favorite releases this year.

Edited to add: Definitely becoming a fan of these guys.

This is one band that never fails to deliver in any of their albums, this release is another strong addition to the previous efforts they created!
Probably have to say this album is more accessible & easier to digest to listeners who may be new & just discovered this band, but its not one of my favourite releases by these guys. Its a great album but not a fantastic one.
Have to say the guitar solo on "Daylight" sends shivers through me when hearing it, a perfect fit to the closing song of the album.

So all in all a strong album but just not one of their best, maybe too many mixed ideas on this album, needs a little refining in areas to make it flow a little nicer, just my opinion! Its definitely not in the same league as the releases "Below the Lights" or "Axioma Ethica Odini" but a highly enjoyable listen nevertheless.

I listened to this a few times the last couple days. "Building With Fire" is a great tune. The whole album is very good. Do these guys ever put out a bad album?

Dunno what TF I was talking about here, this album rules. Surprised when scrolling back through this thread to not see anyone mentioning Thurisaz Dreaming as a highlight, I think it's one of their all-time best songs

Well, better late than never, because now we have two comments about Thurisaz Dreaming:
I also think it's one of their all-time best songs and it was a fantastic opener when I saw them at Brutal Assault in 2015! Hell, it was even the highlight of the show for me.
