Don't care what anyone says. Never been a fan, but the latest two tracks rip. Very excited to hear yet another Charlie Fell-related release this year. Dude is possibly busier than ELM nowadays.

Hot fucking damn Godhead and Nuummite are pretty tasty. Nuummite will probably work excellently as a closer if the other songs are as good as Godhead. Can't believe how much these guys have improved since their early days, but I suppose with such an impressive line up I should have higher expectations.

I hope so. By the looks of things, maybe they'll actually be worth listening to now.

The closing track sounds very Vaura-ish and I'm satisfied with this new direction.

Shit I didn't notice that similarity but now that you bring it up I can totally see it. I keep coming back to these two tracks, I'm absolutely astonished that they're this good now (well, assuming the entire thing holds up)

Well I'll be damned, they actually made a through and through great album. I enjoyed Becoming, but it wasn't anything really special, whereas this album is all sorts of special. They obviously have certain heavy influences that shine through all over the album, but they've really developed a more unique sound that makes them worth listening to.

At Alex's behest I listened to it. If it were an album full of tracks like 'Will, Wish And Desire' and 'Nuummite' I would probably share his enthusiasm. I thought 'Godhead' was pretty good too; I liked the almost Attila-esque vocals going on and general pace. The rest, I dunno, I guess I liked it, less so the three opening tracks. I think I much preferred the previous record though. Had a much better, warmer mix, especially the drums which I really didn't like on this one, and the more overt cascadian shimmeriness of it suited me more. I didn't really get the wow factor here too much though. 'Beyond The Veil' from the previous record is wow factor material for me.

Why do you always do this to me, Joe?. Totally get where you're coming from though, so i'm not surprised you prefer Becoming.

Back in the day, if someone had told me that Jooe likes "your generic atmo black" with an epic/dominant violin soundscapes, I'd be actually kinda shocked...

Well I still think they nailed the sound better than most other bands, and violins make everything better.

Lel, soz (I need to watch that film still). Tbh, my taste in BM has totally reverted to more old-ish school sounding stuff the past few weeks.

Yeah, because Ne Obliviscaris was totally not a piece of overhyped bullshit.

There were violins in that thing? I just remember bad sound, and not much else...

Quite a lot of violin... But mostly bad memories, indeed.

What is wrong with you?
Anyway, just got round to checking the album; I would agree that Becoming is the better album but once again it's another Abigail Williams album I like - even though I enjoy the first 2 AW albums, it's been interesting seeing them get less accessible over their career and produce material good enough to get over some of the prejudices held against them over their early work. This one starts off a bit too monotonous in terms of blast-beating, but calms down and brings in some other flavours from midway through song 3 onwards. The melodic nature of Will, Wish & Desire is a good departure from the intensity and sinister nature of the beginning songs, and I really like it. From then on, there's a good mix of full-out furious and more mid-paced and menacing BM, plus some other cool touches (I particularly like Forever Kingdom Of Dirt, especially in the second half). Not quite as good as Becoming perhaps, but another strong black metal release in a year dominated by black metal (at least for me) and more evidence of AW's inherent talent.

Pretty much nailed the highs and lows of the landscape there, and its qualities and weaknesses.

Ah man, Forever Kingdom Of Dirt is right up amongst my favourite BM songs of 2015. AW have now done 4 full-lengths in very different styles of black metal, and I honestly really like all of them (even though In The Shadow...'s appeal has decreased in the 5 years since I first heard it)

I cant stress how much I love this album. So much better than their first ones. A great example of modern black metal with a overwhelming atmosphere.
