Promethean Misery is an ongoing tale of misery; a collection of pieces composed over many years by Australian solo artist Samantha Kempster. The use of piano, voice, violin, percussion, and other orchestral and distorted elements, are interwoven into melancholic melodies, and dark deep riffs. Each release features these instruments in different capacities, giving each release its own identity, while maintaining the melancholic feel. The first installment of Promethean Misery was the debut EP 'Before My Eyes' (2016) which is piano and voice led. The second release, 'Bloodlet' (July 2017), introduced distorted violin and percussion. The most recent release, 'Ghosts' (Oct 2017), is a blending of the two.

Samantha Kempster has been performing on the Australian heavy metal stage for over a decade. Her first performance was with Sydney Gothic/ Death/ Doom band Lycanthia, where she played violin and backup vocals for roughly seven years. In 2009, her next band was formed, Myraeth, a Melodic Death/ Doom band. This saw her playing a more prominent role, featuring on keys, violin, and vocals. In 2015, Myraeth announced its (eternal) hiatus. Toward the end of 2017, she has joined forces with the mighty Sydney death doom legends Cruciform, where she plays keys. She often performs and records music for other bands and music projects, in the heavy metal/doom genre.
