Biography

Formed in the streets of East London by vocalist Peter Ellis, Monument is bringing back a sound that has been missing from the UK for nearly 30 years… True British Heavy Metal!

With thunderous, melodic bass tones, dual guitar harmonies, rock-solid drum beats and signature falsetto wails, the band is determined to make a difference in today’s Metal scene. Monument celebrate a sound that is rooted in melody and great song writing that will inspire a new generation of Metal fans.

The band was established by Peter Ellis in 2012. During the early days, Peter wrote the band’s first material while trying to find the best musicians in London to be part of his vision of a classic British Heavy Metal band.

Monument ’s debut album “Renegades” was first released in May 2014. The album was produced and mixed by Akis Kollaros at Angry Bee Studios, London, and mastered by Scott Atkins (Cradle Of Filth, Amon Amarth, Sylosis). With this album Monument resurrected a sound that has been missing from the UK for nearly 30 years. The cover artwork was designed by Stan W. Decker (Blackmore’s Night, Primal Fear, Masterplan), initiating a long-time collaborative partnership between the band and the artist. The album features Ritchie Falkner (Judas Priest) as a guest guitarist on the song “Rock the Night”. “Renegades” was critically acclaimed as a melodic, yet heavy, true Metal album that pushed Monument to the forefront of the rising New Wave of Traditional British Heavy Metal, with appearances at Bloodstock (UK) and PPM Festival (BE) following its release.

As a result of the success of their debut release “Renegades”, the band signed a deal with ROAR! Rock of Angels Records and in May 2015 “Renegades” was re-issued on CD, followed closely by a limited vinyl edition in September of 2015.

2016 saw the band release their second Album “Hair Of The Dog” through ROAR! Rock of Angels Records. It was received rapturously by press and fans alike. The album was reviewed in over 250 publications worldwide featuring in Metal Hammer, Rock Hard Magazine, Powerplay and Terrorizer. Monument was voted as 4th best newcomer band of the year and the album as 13th best album of the year 2016 at the Reader´s poll of the “Deaf Forever” Magazine. After the unfortunate passing of Akis Kollaros in 2015, the album was mixed and mastered by Scott Atkins at Grindstone Recordings in England, and the artwork designed by Stan W. Decker, continuing their previously established partnerships.

The band toured Europe with both Rage and Iced Earth respectively in support of the album, with a key festival appearance at Masters of Rock (CZ) with Saxon and Steve Harris’ British Lion.

In 2017 Monument set to work on writing the follow up to “Hair Of The Dog” and was invited to the Rockhard Festival Germany, where they were one of the most memorable bands of the weekend according to many reviews.

2018 is lining up to be the biggest year yet in the history of the band. Continental Concerts have taken over the band´s booking, alongside Akis Kosmidis, owner of ROAR! Rock of Angels Records, as new the band manager, so that label and management activities are unequivocally focused.

The single “William Kidd” is being released on 7” Vinyl on the 27th April 2018, taken from the highly anticipated third album “Hellhound” which will be released worldwide on 25th of May through ROAR! Rock of Angels Records.
