Skyclad - Vocalist To Release Solo Album

Global Music are pleased to announce the release of Flying In The Face Of Logic, the first solo album from singer/songwriter Kevin Ridley - producer/vocalist with folk-metal pioneers Skyclad. The album will be released on July 4th.

Watch the video for the first single, "Point of Departure", below.

The album contains 14 original tracks, mainly inspired by the singer's native Northeast (England) so fittingly, it features several northern session players - notably Northumbrian pipes player Andy May, Folkworks fiddle player, Sophy Ball, and Blitzkrieg's Dave Anderson on bass - as well as contributions from the current members of Skyclad.

Ridley describes the record as a form of continuation from Skyclad's Semblance of Normality: "Semblance... was the first album where all the band members involved had roots in Northern England and references were buried within the songs. It was something I wanted to explore, so Flying In The Face Of Logic became autobiographical and based upon my personal stories of life, love and growing up in the North-East of England."

After spending 35 years in the music industry, engineering and producing for thrash-metallers Venom, Forgodsake, Anathema, Pariah and Skyclad, Kevin Ridley took the opportunity to emerge from behind the mixing desk and experience the role of a player, rather than Producer. Five years in the making, Ridley described the journey of writing the album as a challenge of learning "how to fly and make my own rules".

Flying In The Face Of Logic was produced by Kevin Ridley, recorded at Newcastle's Blast Studio, and mixed by Dario Mollo (Glenn Hughes/Tony Martin/Lacuna Coil).

Pensées Nocturnes - To Release New Album

The next Pensees Nocturnes album, called Ceci est de la Musique, will be released on the 11th of June. It consists of a unique 55-minute song (aptly titled "Ceci est de la Musique") going with a 48-page booklet developing the artistic approach of the opus.

Says Vaerohn of the independent release: "In order not to contribute to the degrading consumerist system that prevails in the current scene, this release will be an auto-production sold at cost price and therefore won't benefit by any promotion and distribution. The edition will also be quite limited."

It is to be said that this decision doesn't result from a disagreement with the former label Ladlo Productions and that the collaboration may continue for future releases. Grotesque is also still available through the label's website.

In addition to Vaerohn's work as composer/recorder/mixer/master/conqueror of worlds, the album will also feature other talent. Elisa Rodesky loans her soprano voice, while Laurence Olivier and Marc Dubrouin deliver their best alto and tenor approach. Vestale is responsible for the big change in cover art.

Consider yourself warned.

Funeral - To Release The Formerly Unreleased

Solitude Productions proudly presents the legendary Norwegian band Funeral's album To Mourn Is A Virtue. This release is the missing link between the classic albums Tragedies (1995) and In Fields Of Pestilent Grief (2002). This album is based on unreleased demo-recordings, and contains nine previously unreleased tracks that were recorded between 1996 and 2004, sent into orbit in the International Space Station, later jettisoned and crashed in the middle of the Indian Ocean, recovered, and, finally, remastered in 2010, almost 15 years (and several hundred orbits of Earth) after they were initially recorded.

The CD comes in an awesome looking digibook package limited to 999 copies.

To Mourn Is A Virtue tracklist:

01. Hunger
02. God?
03. Your Pain Is Mine
04. The Rest?
05. Dancing In A Liquid Veil
06. How Death May Linger
07. Father
08. Blood From The Soil
09. Wrapped All In Woe

(The masters may or may not have been launched into orbit... most likely not. But they were recorded many, many years ago. People believe some or all of the tracks in Ulver's Nattens Madrigal were recorded in the middle of a forest... yeah. They plugged their gear into fir trees for power? So who knows, maybe 10 years from now people will claim this was recorded on the International Space Station.)
