Arjen Lucassen - Unveils New Project

Two weeks ago, the following news was posted on the Ayreon website:

"There's not been much news from us lately, but don't let that fool you. There has been a bustle of feverish activity going on behind the scenes here at the Electric Castle. With this update from ArjenLucassen.com we're excited to officially announce the details of Arjen's new project, Guilt Machine.

The Line-up will be:

Arjen Lucassen: instruments, backing vocals
Jasper Steverlinck (Arid): vocals
Chris Maitland (ex-Porcupine Tree): drums
Lori Linstruth (ex-Stream Of Passion): lead guitar

As Ayreon fans have come to expect from Arjen, the music of Guilt Machine ranges from dark and heavy to atmospheric and melancholic. But Guilt Machine introduces some new twists as well, particularly when it comes to the vocals. Rather than putting together an ensemble cast of vocalists from the prog, rock and metal scene, Arjen has enlisted the talents of a single alternative Belgian rock vocalist, Jasper Steverlinck.

Hellfest 2009 - Last Confirmed Names!

Hello everybody!

Here we are! After a lot of discussions, negotiations and real headaches, we are now able to give you the last confirmed names of the 2009 festival edition.

We promised you eclecticism, and as you can see we didn't lie! Traditional heavy metal, indus, grind, glam, hardcore, prog? everything is perfectly consistent with what we want to do with the Hellfest: An extremely specialized yet open-minded event!

The presence of a few really famous bands known by a large audience didn't distract us from our goal to develop the metal genres which made the reputation of the festival. The extreme metalheads will headbang at the new ROCK HARD TENT, which can welcome up to 6,000 people and where a lot of death, black, grind and other bands will put you in a trance.

The TERRORIZER TENT will give the opportunity to the metal elitists but also to the curious metalheads to discover forgotten genres, unfortunately forsaken by the audience and the media! On this stage, hardcore, grindcore, stoner and other doom bands will defend the image and the vocation of the festival!

Let's not wait any longer, and discover the new bands which have been added to this year's festival line-up. We hope you will be delighted!

MOTLEY CRUE - MARYLIN MANSON - MACHINE HEAD - DREAM THEATER - EUROPE - QUEENSRYCHE - SOULFLY - HATEBREED - SUICIDAL TENDENCIES - DOWN - MASTODON - KILLING JOKE - CRADLE OF FILTH - EDGUY - PAPA ROACH - DRAGON FORCE - PAIN - KMFDM - VOIVOD - PAIN OF SALVATION - BUCKCHERRY - NASHVILLE PUSSY - ADX - KORITNI - SATAN JOKERS - MOONSPELL - IMMOLATION - SKINLESS - BRUTAL TRUTH - DESTROYER 666 - VADER - PIG DESTROYER - HACRIDE - TREPALIUM - BACKFIRE - PROVIDENCE - WATERTANK... all those names are added to the already long list.

That's all for now, you know everything and the final countdown officially starts today! Please note that the one-day tickets are on sale for 59? (including locative fees).

See you soon for further news!

The Hellfest Team

Atheist, Gnostic - Sign With Season Of Mist

Season Of Mist is immensely proud to announce that Atheist and Gnostic just inked a deal with their label! After Cynic, that's two more technical US death metal legends they are welcoming to their roster.

Here's drummer Steve Flynn's comment:
"We're absolutely thrilled that, as of today, both Gnostic and Atheist are officially signed to Season Of Mist! Gnostic's debut CD "Engineering The Rule" will be released before the summer and Atheist's yet untitled CD, will be released later in the year. Season really stepped up to the plate to get this done, for this is also a highly unique situation for technical death metal. Three members of Gnostic are also in Atheist. With me on drums for both bands, Chris Baker on lead guitar for both and Jonathan Thompson on bass for Gnostic and guitar for Atheist, these signings represent very significant personal milestones for everybody involved. For me, the Gnostic debut CD is the first, and ONLY, new project I've been involved with since Atheist's "Unquestionable Presence" in 1992. For Kelly Shaefer and me it is the first time that we will collaborate on new Atheist material, also since 1992's "Unquestionable Presence". We'll be bringing in our old friend and Atheist bassist Tony Choy for writing and touring as well. Signing both bands is also a unique coup for Season Of Mist and indicative of their cutting-edge attitude. Both bands will be touring together in 2009 in the US and Europe, which means that we will be pulling double duty every night!"

"Sorry I have not updated the website in a while. We have been so busy finishing up this new Obituary album and getting ready to leave for Europe in a few days that I just have not had time to do it. The good news is, last night, we finished up the mixing and we are done. It came out really sick and I cannot wait for you guys to hear it... it is heavy! Like I said, we now focus on heading to Europe for our Full of Hate tour that runs pretty much the month of March! It should be a good time and I hope you all can come out and see us."

Sotajumala - Sign With Cobra

Finnish death metallers Sotajumala have posted the following update:

"Our new label is Cobra. Even though a relatively new label, the people behind Cobra have been involved in music industry for a long time. Other new bands on their roster are Deathchain and Survivors Zero (with The Coffinshakers being the first band on the label). We negotiated with several labels, but in the end the decision came easily. We trust them and they trust us. Things are certainly looking good for us right now!"
