Dreadnaught - New Album On The Way

Seminal Australian hard rock/metal band, Dreadnaught, have completed the recording of a new LP CD in follow-up to the critically acclaimed 2006 RoadRunner release, "Dirty Music". The self-titled album will be the band's 6th studio release in its 15 year history and features the band's heaviest production to date.

The addition of ex-Alarum drummer, Matthew Racovalis has helped shape a highly diverse sounding record, more akin to the technical-thrash styled Dreadnaught of the mid-nineties; yet retaining the dynamic subtleties that has made Dreadnaught unique amongst their peers.

With an album release date set for March/April 2009 the band are currently planning tours of Australia, Europe and Japan later in 2009 and 2010. For a preview of some material from the LP visit Dreadnaught online at http://www.myspace.com.au/dreadnaughtmusic or http://www.dreadnaught.com.au

A picture of how the cover artwork will look like can be found here, while a preview of the song "Agony Ecstacy" is available on the band's MySpace.

Pantheon I - Part Ways With Drummer

Norwegian black metal band Pantheon I has issued the following update:

"Alot of things have been going on with the band lately. Drummer Dan Theobald has left Pantheon I to pursue different musical expressions, we wish him all the best and thank him for the brilliant job he has done for Pantheon I. His last gigs with the band was the Finland tour we did supporting Keep Of Kalessin (Big hails to Töni, Peik, Janika, Anna, Janni, Morten and the guys from Keep Of Kalessin for making this one of the funniest and most alcoholic trip ever!!)

Pantheon I have been rehearsing alot with the new skinsman Mads Guldbekkhei (The Allseeing I), preparing him for the fury of "Worlds I Create". The band entered "Strand Studio" last Monday (January 26) and will record 9 songs during the next month."

Enslaved - Win Spellemann Metal Award

For the third time in five years, Enslaved have won the Spellemann Award (the Norwegian equivalent to the American Grammy) for Best Metal Album 2008 with their latest offering, "Vertebrae". The other nominated bands were Keep Of Kalessin ("Kolossus") and Benea Reach ("Alleviat").

Enslaved commented: "We're very honored to get our third Grammy! The party was good, we had a good time. We think the Grammy committee was very generous in giving all the artists two whole pitchers of ice water and selling 0.3 liters of flat beer for 7.5 Euros in the bar. Luckily, we robbed a bank on our way there and could afford getting absolutely smashed. We're having a rough Monday here. Thanks!"

Enslaved won a Spellemann Awards for Best Metal Album in 2006 for "Ruun" and in 2004 for "Isa". Last year the Award went to Mayhem and "Ordo Ad Chao".

Shadowside - New Album Details

Brazilian metallers Shadowside have just unveiled "Dare To Dream" cover artwork and tracklist, the band's forthcoming album. The cover was designed by Brazilian artist Jobert Mello who had previously worked with the band on the American edition of the successful debut album "Theatre Of Shadows" (2007) and is also known for works with Sabaton.

Dare to Dream was produced and mixed by Dave Schiffman (System Of A Down, Audioslave, Avenged Sevenfold) at LCM Studio in São Paulo, Brazil and mastered by Howie Weinberg (Aerosmith, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Pantera and several others) at Masterdisk Studio in New York.

The tracklist for the CD is as follows:

01. Nation Hollow Mind
02. In The Night
03. Last Thoughts
04. Hideaway
05. Baby In The Dark
06. Ready Or Not
07. Memories
08. Wings Of Freedom
09. Time To Say Goodbye
10. Life Denied
11. Dare To Dream

Frontwoman Dani Nolden comments on the artwork, reason for the "Dare To Dream" title and identity of this new material: "We wanted to achieve something that would represent the whole idea behind the "Dare To Dream" title and Jobert knew exactly how to capture that, not only on the cover but in the entire album artwork. The title works really well in our area once every single great band was born from a child's or teenager's dream however it applies to everyone, anywhere. It's for a child that doesn't understand why there are wars out there, for those tired of the office work, dreams of going away on a trip or switching jobs, for those who think of a distant future or simply wonder what is going to happen tomorrow. Daring is essential in everybody's life and it isn't any different in our case. In this new material we kept everything we have been about since the beginning but we dared going one step further. The energy is there as well as the heaviness but we went a little more melodic in some parts and angrier in others. I believe "Dare To Dream" will come as a shock in a positive way. I see ourselves with a lot more identity nowadays, lyrics are extremely personal and I can say this album is 100% Shadowside."

As of right now, Dani Nolden (vocals), Raphael Mattos (guitars), Edu Simões (bass) and Fabio Buitvidas (drums) have started promoting the recorded and will announce tourdates in the following months.

Queensrÿche - New Album Details

Queensrÿche have posted the following statement on their official MySpace:

"Queensrÿche envisions war through the eyes of a soldier with the band's twelfth studio release, the epic concept album "American Soldier". The ambitious album encompasses a dozen songs inspired by numerous interviews with veterans conducted by Geoff Tate, the group's singer and chief songwriter, who was intent on telling their story using their words. After speaking with soldiers who served in various conflicts - from World War II to Iraq - Tate turned their firsthand experiences from the frontlines into an unflinching musical examination of the life of a solider and the consequences of war. "American Soldier" will be available from Atco/Rhino on March 31 for a suggested list price of $18.98 (CD) and $9.99 (digital).

Geoff Tate, Michael Wilton (guitar), Ed Jackson (bass) and Scott Rockenfield (drums) recorded the album in 2008 over the course of nine months. The idea for "American Soldier", Tate says, came from hearing stories from fans that are veterans, as well as his own father, who served in both Korea and Vietnam. "My father was a career military man, but until very recently he never spoke about what he went through. I think that reticence is true of a lot of veterans, which means most people never truly understand what it means to be a soldier at war. Hearing what he and some of our fans have endured made me want to share their stories with the world. This is an album about the soldiers, for the soldiers, as told by the soldiers themselves."

Those stories resonate at the heart of "American Soldier", imbuing each song with vivid details about both the emotional and physical impacts of war, evoking war zone battles ("Middle Of Hell"), sacrifice ("The Killer"), loss ("If I Were King"), the longing for home ("Remember Me"), and adjusting to society after returning from war ("Man Down!").

Geoff Tate recorded many of his interviews with the soldiers, and some dialogue from these discussions is mixed into several of tracks, allowing the soldiers' own words to help tell their compelling stories. The band also brought a few of the soldiers into the studio with them to record vocals. The verses of the track "Unafraid" feature the voices of Chris Devine, a Vietnam veteran, and Sean Lenahan, a veteran of Somalia, recalling their war experiences while Tate provides the anthemic chorus. Also making a guest vocal appearance is Tate's 10-year-old daughter Emily on the gripping duet "Home Again," which examines the emotional toll of war from two perspectives, with Geoff singing from the soldier's point of view and his daughter singing from the viewpoint of the child left behind.
