Absu - New Song Posted Online

Official press release

Texas-based mythological occult metal band Absu have posted the song "Girra's Temple" from their self-titled new album due in stores February 24 on their official MySpace page. The song offers fans the first listen to material on the anxiously awaited new album that features an all-star array of guest musicians.

"Absu" is the first new recording from the trio since their highly acclaimed album "Tara" released in 2001. Produced by the band with mixing assistance from J.T. Longoria (King Diamond, Solitude Aeturnus), the album features artwork from Belgian artist Kris Verwimp. Drummer/vocalist Proscriptor says of the album's lyrical concepts, "I am concentrating more on Sumerian-based occult themes of magick and mythology versus the Celtic aspect of my previous writings, which was heavily expressed on the last few Absu studio albums. Musically speaking, the material will be quite similar to Tara, but with more of a '70s progressive/psychedelic texture within it."

Absu came to international prominence with the release of their debut, "Barathrum: VITRIOL", in 1992. Originally released via Gothic Records, the label later licensed the record to France's Osmose Productions (Immortal, Enslaved, Marduk). Absu would establish a solid relationship with the label and thus release all later recordings via the renowned independent, including the highly regarded "Tara" (2001). In 2007, the band would announce a new partnership with London-based Candlelight Records.

Here's the tracklisting for "Absu" cover] again:

01. Between The Absu Of Eridu & Erech
02. Night Fire Canonization
03. Amy
04. Nunbarshegunu
05. 13 Globes
06. ?Of The Dead Who Never Rest In Their Tombs Are The Attendance Of Familiar Spirits?
a) Diversified Signs Inscribed
b) Our Earth Of Black
c) Voor
07. Magic(k) Square Cipher
08. In The Name Of Auebothiabathabaithobeuee
09. Girra's Temple
10. Those Of The Void Will Re-Enter
11. Sceptre Command
12. Ye Uttuku Spells
13. Twix Yesterday, The Day & The Morrow

Pain Of Salvation - Lifting Their Tour Embargo On USA

Vocalist Daniel Gildenlöw of Pain Of Salvation has posted the following blog after Barack Obama's inauguration:

"We congratulate the people of USA on the Inauguration of their new President. We have waited for this day a long time, as have most of the world. Obama continually strikes us as the bravest and most promising US president that modern times have seen, and we nod our heads in agreement and respect for some of the things he expressed in his speech. Thus, with Barack Obama, in that very speech, offering an open hand to those willing to unclench their fists, Pain of Salvation will be first in line to offer our unclenching.

Therefore, let it be known that on the 20th of January 2009, after almost five years, Pain of Salvation are officially lifting their political embargo on USA. Our position on border control finger print scanning remains unchanged, and we will keep fighting against it and do what we can to oppose and fight it; but today we see an American nation of hope and want of change, and good should be met with good. Hence, we reach out to accept your hand. Not unconditionally, because real love is demanding: something to work on every day. But with our deepest and most sincere hope for a new start."

Iron Maiden - Flight 666 The Movie

British heavy rock legends, Iron Maiden, in association with Banger Productions, EMI Records, Universal (USA) and Arts Alliance Media, announce that they will be releasing a feature length documentary film into cinemas worldwide on April 21st 2009.

As you may know from Rod's tour diaries, Iron Maiden have been working on a feature length documentary. Entitled "Iron Maiden: Flight 666", the movie follows the band on the first leg of their Somewhere Back In Time World Tour in February and March of 2008 as they experienced the most ambitious and adventurous tour in rock history, and will be released in April 2009 in association with EMI Records and Universal in the USA.

The Maiden tour plan was something that had never been attempted before on such a grand scale. Circumnavigating the globe, the band flew in a specially customised Boeing 757 airliner with their crew and 12 tons of music and stage equipment on board, playing 23 sold out stadium and arena shows in 13 countries in just 45 days, travelling 70,000km and performing to almost half a million fans.

The band were accompanied everywhere by award-winning documentary makers Banger Productions from Toronto in Canada, who have received international critical acclaim for their previous movies "Metal, A Headbangers Journey" and recently "Global Metal". Filmmakers Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn and their team bring an intimate behind the scenes view of this remarkable journey, with a close look at the logistics involved and following Team Maiden in the cockpit, on the plane and on and offstage, getting to the heart of this global adventure of a band that has very rarely even let cameras backstage before.

Shot in High Definition and with superb 5.1 surround sound, mixed by the bands producer Kevin "Caveman" Shirley, Flight 666 brings to the screen all the drama, excitement and hysteria that followed the band around the world every time "Ed Force One" touched down in a new country. The film documents the intensity of the punishing show schedules, the struggle with the time zones, the pressures of ensuring that every performance matched the energy of the many thousands of ecstatic and expectant fans from many cultural backgrounds, unusual angles from the spectacular shows... and of course the fun had on the way!.

Iron Maiden: Flight 666 is an honest and revealing portrait of one of the worlds most successful rock bands and a must-see for all Maiden fans.

A special international "Iron Maiden" day is being planned for 21st April with simultaneous showings of "Iron Maiden: Flight 666" in selected Digital cinemas around the world - we will of course bring you more information on this nearer the time.

Dubai Desert Rock Festival 2009 - Full Line Up Announced

The organizer of Desert Rock Festival, Center Stage Management, is excited to announce the full line-up for its 6th edition held at Dubai Festival City on Friday, March 6th 2009. Six international heavy metal bands will dominate the stage providing seven hours of live music, supported by two lucky bands chosen from competitions currently running across the globe. A day not to miss!

The line-up for this year's Desert Rock Festival will feature: Motörhead, Arch Enemy, Opeth, Chimaira, August Burns Red, Nervecell and two unsigned bands from various competitions, namely Hatred and Scarab.

This marks Motörhead's first ever performance in the Middle East since the beginning of their career in 1975. On their 30th anniversary, they won a Grammy for "Best Metal Performance", promising a powerful show.

At the same time, two competitions are being conducted simultaneously for the first time this year: United We Rock. This online-based competition, taking place in both UAE and Germany as an "exchange program"' where both winners play respectively at Desert Rock Festival and With Full Force. Votes ended on December 25th.

In 2009, Desert Rock Festival will be a full day dedicated to and celebrating heavy metal. The acclaimed music event started off as a 3-hour show in 2004 and expanded into a 2-day festival in 2007 with a heavy metal day to start with and 'mainstream' rock the next. However, based on the popularity of the heavy metal genre in the region and the day dedicated to it, festival promoters confirm Desert Rock Festival will take place on Friday, March 6th, rewarding loyal Desert Rock 'disciples' that have made it a success, every year since its inception.

The festival has been described as "the hottest rock festival on the planet" by Kerrang! and "a major event attended by a vast crowd from all parts of the Middle East plus a smattering of rock'n'roll minded British and American expats" by Metal Hammer.

Desert Rock tickets on sale on http://www.timeouttickets.com. Ticket price: 250 AED, inclusive of shuttle bus service, transporting festival goers from different locations to Dubai Festival City and back.

Krux - Update From The Band

Krux have issued the following update:

"Yes, it is true folks. Krux will play their last 2 gigs in sweden before they enter the studio to record a new album. This will probably not happen until the winter of 09/10, but with Fredrik Åkessons duties in Opeth and Leif Edling being busy with Candlemass new album in 2009, it is not very likely that the band will be seen on a stage again that soon.

So... Don't miss next week shows in Stockholm - at Harry B James (thursday Jan 29) and in Gävle - at O´Learys (friday Jan 30). Krux promise to play a couple of odd songs from the catalogue to make things more interesting, and you will also see Pär Wiberg from Opeth do his Krux premiere. He replaces Carl Westholm on keys since the doctor is in Africa saving the world."

Warning - Doom Legend Disbanded, Official Statement By The Band

Sadly we have to announce, what most insiders and fans already know:
British Doom Legend Warning split up after 15 years of existence and two album masterpieces.

The only remaining original member and founder Patrick Walker has provided us with the following statement:

"The decision to discontinue Warning has been both a pain and a purgation to me. For the past two years or so, Warning has been a considerably important part of my life, what with travelling and playing shows, writing new music and a gradual but increasing interest in the band, largely helped by Cyclone Empire's rereleasing of both records and making them for the first time easily obtainable to people.

However, I started the band in 1994. I was a different person when I began playing with Warning; I had different musical objectives; different ideals; different influences and inspirations. Now in order to make music that retains some semblance of integrity and wholeness I realise I need to move on. This shouldn't be thought of as "the end" of something. I have, after all, been the sole remaining original member of the band in its most recent line-up for almost a year now; in this respect Warning is little more than a band name. So before I complete work on what will be the material for the next album, I need a new band; a new context within which to work.

I hope people continue their interest in my music, and all further information concerning it will be officially made known through Cyclone Empire with whom I am very happy to say I will continue to work as originally proposed, so please look no further than these pages for more news.

Many thanks,

Patrick Walker.

22nd January 2009"

We provide you with further news as we have them!
