Deinonychus - Call It A Day

After many many years of being a musician in the metal scene, having done more than 13 albums, including sidesteps with Dark Sanctuary and Bethlehem, and numerous compilations etc.

I think it's time to call it a day and put Deinonychus to rest. I just can't find any motivation anymore to go on with something I can't completely give all for.

I have done it in the past, but my mind has slipped of Deinonychus and meanwhile I'm doing something completely different. Something where I feel that same vibe as 16 years ago....something I missed with Deinonychus for at least the last 6 years........

I think "Warfare Machines" our last effort is a worthwhile crown on Deinonychus' 16 Year career. And as they say......one better stops with a good album rather than continueing going down hill.

I probably have so much more to say, but I'm just loss for words...... I can only say,....thank you to all people worldwide for believing and supporting Deinonychus over all those years. Without you all would have been for nothing. I will be looking back with pride on what I've achieved more or less on my own as a musician/songwriter/manager etc.

Thanks to all people here on Myspace for their nice support and spirit.

The Deinonychus profile here will continue being up, I just don't invest too much time in it anymore, hence I didn't already as many might have noticed....

I'll continue on with my new project Nihil Novi Sub Sole which mixes everything from Martial-Ambient-industrial to Powernoise...... Something completely different from what I've done sofar.............

Take care you all, and thanks for everything. Especially My Kingdom Music for their neverlasting support and friendship over the last 7 years..... I wish them all the best in the future..........

Greetings and see you around.........

Marco Kehren on behalf of Deinonychus

Defiance - Sign To Candlelight Records

Candlelight Records announced the signing of Oakland, California-based Defiance. The band, currently featuring vocalist Steev Esquivel (Skinlab), guitarist Jim Adams, bassist Mike Kaufmann and drummer Mark Hernandez (Vio-lence, Forbidden), has started early tracking of their new album at Triden Studios and Greendot Studios in East Bay. The currently untitled album is expected for a Spring 2009 release.

Formed in 1985, Defiance have recorded three albums all for Roadrunner Records - Product of Society (1989, produced by Jeff Waters (Annihilator)), Void Terra Firma (1990, produced by John Cuniberti (Joe Satriani)), and Beyond Recognition (1992, produced by Rob Beaton). In 1994 the members put Defiance on hiatus allowing them opportunity to work on outside projects. In 2005 after requests from fans and new vigor on the part of band members, Defiance reunited. In an interview with popular portal Metal-Temple.com Mike Kaufmann reveals, "We have received lots of messages from fans who have said they would love to hear some new Defiance. We always felt the band broke up too early so we plan to use this opportunity to pick up where we left off".

Defiance along with their fellow moshpit peers of the 80's (Testament, Exodus, Death Angel) contributed to the rise and immense popularity of thrash metal for over a decade. In recent years with the reformations of many of the classic bands, fans have been given opportunity to re-embrace the aggressive sound of the American-flavor of the genre.

Defiance plan to finish recording of their Candlelight debut by year's end. The band expect to announce touring plans in the early part of 2009.

Dear Fans & Friends,

we are terribly sorry to tell you that our record label has decided to cancel our upcoming North-American tour. This is due to the fact that the release of our first DVD has been postponed. We really regret this. Moreover, we've tried everything possible to save the tour, however, we now have to face the fact that we cannot change the situation. We wish Amorphis, Samael and Virgin Black all the best for the tour, and we hope to be back in the States and Canada in 2009.

Alestorm - Already Announce New Guitarist

After the guitarist Gavin Harper's departure from Alestorm only a few days ago, the band have already found a replacement. A statement from the band reads as follows:

"It is with great pleasure (and relief) that I announce we've found a new guitarist! Enter Mr Tim Shaw. The more eagle-eyed watchers of the underground amongst you may know him as the mastermind behind the epic black metal project Fyrdsman, and as the guitarist of the now-departed death metal titans Premithon. He's a beastly good guitarist, and a great lad to boot. It's gonna be a fucking blast when we get up on stage and in the studio. Gavin's shoes are going to be tough ones to fill, but that's ok, because Tim has big feet. And you know what they say about guys with big feet..."

ProgPower Scandinavia - Mekong Delta Replaces Zero Hour

Unfortunately ZERO HOUR had to cancel their ProgPower Scandinavia appearance due to bassist Troy Tipton having to undergo surgery end of October. We are very saddened to hear this, and we wish Troy a speedy recovery, and hope to see them at ProgPower Scandinavia next year. Please find below the statement from Jasun Tipton in Zero Hour:

. . . .

This is very tough for me to write as we deeply regret to say Zero Hour has to cancel the upcoming live performance at ProgPower Scandinavia. My brother Troy has been struggling with Tendonitis for many years and in the last year the pain in his Ulnar nerve and tendons have pushed him to his limits. Troy has already run up a large amount of medical bills this year. Having met the deductible requirements of his health insurance policy, Troy needs to have the surgery done (followed by 6 weeks of rehabilitation) before the year is up. Unfortunately this created a scheduling conflict with ProgPower Scandinavia.

I want to thank Claus of Intromental/ProgPower Scandinavia for being nothing but supportive towards our decision. Claus is a class-act and has done an amazing job with his promotions work (Intromental Promotions) for Zero Hour over the years. This was going to be our first time playing in Denmark and we were so excited to come play ProgPower Scandinavia. Claus has put together an awesome lineup as all the bands are very talented. We hope ProgPower Scandinavia is a great success because it's a great event run by great people.

We want to apologize to everyone who was looking forward to seeing Zero Hour at ProgPower Scandinavia. This is the first time we've canceled an event and never wanted to be known as that type of band. It's very hard to see my brother in the condition he's in and this is the best thing for Troy and the band in the long run. ProgPower Europe will be our last event of 2008 and we'll do our best to let you know the status of Troy and the band in 2009.

METAL!!
Jasun/ZH

. . . .

With regards to ProgPower Scandinavia, we are of course very disappointed by the fact that we once again have to find a replacement band, as this year seem to be the year of several cancellations. However, we decided to find a band similar to Zero Hour in musical expression, so we chose German technical prog-thrashers MEKONG DELTA to be a suitable and very welcomed replacement band. MEKONG DELTA is a band that we actually had in mind for the original line-up of PP Scandinavia 2008, but with Zero Hour already on the bill, we did not want two bands so close in sound. The unfortunate situation with Zero Hour gives us a good reason for picking up MEKONG DELTA, and we are very proud of having them perform at our festival. If you do not know who MEKONG DELTA are, we urge you to check out their latest album "Lurking Fear" from 2007 or some of their classic albums like "Dances Of Death and Other Walking Shadows" 1990 and "The Principle of Doubt" 1989. MEKONG DELTA is really one of the original progressive metal bands in Europe, and with their hard thrash metal roots, they should make ProgPower Scandinavia into a truly original event.

Ayreon - "Timeline" Compilation To Be Released In November

The latest news from the Electric Castle is that Arjen has just put the finishing touches on the forthcoming Ayreon 3CD + DVD compilation album, TIMELINE.

"I've been asked many times before to release an Ayreon compilation album, but it just didn’t feel right to present fragmented bits of story by lifting individual songs out of their greater contexts. However, my attitude changed after I completed my 2008 album 01011001, in which I connected all the previous Ayreon releases, musically as well as lyrically. Having completed the circle, so to speak, it seemed like a fitting time to put all things Ayreon into perspective and create an Ayreon timeline outlining the entire story."

TIMELINE follows the thirteen-year evolution of the Ayreon sound from the 1995 debut The Final Experiment to the release of 01011001 in 2008. In addition to selecting tracks from the existing Ayreon discography, Arjen has also written and recorded a new Ayreon song exclusively for TIMELINE. Titled Epilogue: The Memory Remains, this previously unreleased 9-plus-minute track introduces Ayreon fans to the clear, powerful voice of Jasper Steverlinck (Arid). Lyrically, The Memory Remains provides further insight into the final chapter of the Ayreon saga and what the future might hold for its characters.

In addition to The Memory Remains, TIMELINE's 3 audio CDs comprise 32 essential Ayreon tracks (almost 4 hours of music), all carefully remastered specifically for this release. The accompanying DVD features nearly two hours of released and unreleased video clips, behind-the-scenes featurettes, 5.1 mixes, and live performances of Ayreon tracks (Star one and Stream of Passion versions). To illuminate the Ayreon story further, a timeline poster illustrating the Ayreon universe and 56-page booklet containing many new photos, all lyrics, and notes on the story are included in the TIMELINE package. The cover is a specially commissioned painting by traditional Ayreon cover artist, Jef Bertels (see the full painting here).

TIMELINE will be available from InsideOut Music on 7 November (G.A.S), 10 November (Europe), and early 2009 (N. America).

When asked what the release of TIMELINE means for the future of Ayreon, Arjen explains, "I don't see this as the end of Ayreon, but rather as a new beginning. I'll definitely be recording some side projects before I even start thinking about re-inventing Ayreon. To keep things fresh for myself I've got to come up with a completely new concept for both the music and the lyrics. I hope I can do it...it will be definitely be quite a challenge!"

Pink Floyd - Founding Member Dies At Age 65

Richard Wright, a founding member of the rock group Pink Floyd, died Monday. He was 65.

Pink Floyd's spokesman Doug Wright, who is not related to the artist, said Wright died after a battle with cancer at his home in Britain. He says the band member's family did not want to give more details about his death.

Wright met Pink Floyd members Roger Waters and Nick Mason in college and joined their early band, Sigma 6. Along with the late Syd Barrett, the four formed Pink Floyd in 1965.

The group's jazz-infused rock and drug-laced multimedia "happenings" made them darlings of the London psychedelic scene, and their 1967 album, "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn," was a hit.

In the early days of Pink Floyd, Wright, along with Barrett, was seen as the group's dominant musical force. The London-born musician and son of a biochemist wrote songs and sang.

The band released a series of commercially and critically successful albums including 1973's "Dark Side of the Moon," which has sold more than 40 million copies. Wright wrote "The Great Gig In The Sky" and "Us And Them" for that album, and later worked on the group's epic compositions such as "Atom Heart Mother," "Echoes" and "Shine On You Crazy Diamond."

But tensions grew between Waters, Wright and fellow band member David Gilmour. The tensions came to a head during the making of "The Wall" when Waters insisted Wright be fired. As a result, Wright was relegated to the status of session musician on the tour of "The Wall," and did not perform on Pink Floyd's 1983 album "The Final Cut."

Wright formed a new band Zee with Dave Harris, from the band Fashion, and released one album, "Identity," with Atlantic Records.

Waters left Pink Floyd in 1985 and Wright began recording with Mason and Gilmour again, releasing the albums "The Division Bell" and "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" as Pink Floyd. Wright also released the solo albums "Wet Dream" (1978) and "Broken China" (1996).

In July 2005, Wright, Waters, Mason and Gilmour reunited to perform at the "Live 8" charity concert in London ? the first time in 25 years they had been onstage together.

Wright also worked on Gilmour's solo projects, most recently playing on the 2006 album "On An Island" and the accompanying world tour.
