Vicious Rumors - Part Ways With Bassist

Original Vicious Rumors bassist Dave Starr has once again left the band as of January 23, 2007.
Dave played bass on the first five Vicious Rumors albums (and was featured in several other Vicious Rumors DVDs, MTV videos, and band compilations). He returned to the band in 2005 to record the new "Warball" CD in 2006.

Commented Starr: "My history with Vicious Rumors goes back nearly 23 years, and in many ways the band will always be a part of me. However, it's time for me to concentrate 100% of my time and energy on my own music, my own band, and playing guitar. My band Wildestarr (along with incredible vocalist London Wilde) is something I have been working on for a few years now, and I took time off from this to work with Vicious Rumors again and record the "Warball" album. I am happy with the way the new Vicious Rumors CD came out, and thrilled with the response it has received so far from the fans and press. It was great to play and record with Vicious Rumors again. I remain on good terms with everyone in the band and wish them well in the future."

Vicious Rumors released "Warball" in the U.S. in October. Two short samples from "Warball" ? 'Sonic Rebellion' and 'Mr. Miracle' ? are available at the band's official website.

Norwegian Melodic Black/Death metallers Susperia have issued the following update:

"The wait is almost over, all the work on the new album is now finished and we have set the title as "Cut From Stone". It is scheduled for release via the TABU label in Europe in April. We've posted samples of two of our new songs: 'More' and 'The Clone'. We'll be announcing the release date soon."

"Cut From Stone" was recorded at StrandStudio in Oslo, Norway with Marius Strand, who previously assisted Susperia on 2005's Norwegian Top 20 hit, the "Devil May Care" EP. The album was mixed by Daniel Bergstrand (In Flames, Meshuggah) at Dug Out Studios in Uppsala, Sweden.

Steel Attack - US Tour Postponed

Swedish Power Metal band Steel Attack have posted the following message on their official website:

"Due to circumstances beyond our control, we have been forced to postpone the up-coming US tour scheduled for March this year. Some of the venues brought the financial terms of the shows into dispute at the last second. In order to protect the financial interest of the band and avoid a loss that would have been the logical consequence of these lowered fees. Hopefully, these shows will be rescheduled a.s.a.p. at different locations."

Candlemass - Announce Robert Lowe As New Singer

Three months after the departure of former singer Messiah Marcolin, Candlemass have announced Robert Lowe of Solitude Aeturnus fame as new vocalist. The official statement reads as follows:

"After months of auditions it is now official who replaces Messiah Marcolin in Candlemass. Robert Lowe, well known for his work with Solitude Aeturnus, is the man who killed all the competition and showed that he beyond doubt is the most capable man for the job. A worthy successor!!

Robert will still be fronting SA, but since there's a whole ocean between the bands, we/Candlemass, feel that this is a great solution that is very beneficial for everybody. The mighty voice from Dallas Texas, is thrown into the fire immediately and is starting the vocal work on the new Candlemass album in a matter of days. Candlemass are sure that the words "amazing" and "incredible" will be used to describe the result! Candlemass would also like to thank all the gifted singers who applied for the job. Many talents from all over the world have been heard. We are sure that they will continue to be heard for a long time, but not in Candlemass. The band have finally found the ideal replacement for Messiah Marcolin - Robert Lowe! The new album will KILL!!"

Virgin Black - New Album Track List & Release Date Announced

The End Records has set a release date of April 3rd, 2007 for the new album from Australia's gothic/classical/doom band Virgin Black, titled 'Requiem - Mezzo Forte.'

The album, part of the 'Requiem' trilogy, will be the first installment (the 2nd of the trilogy) released and will be followed later on this year by 'Requiem - Pianissimo' and 'Requiem - Fortissimo.'

About the 'Requiem' trilogy, singer/songwriter Rowan London comments, "Well, I feel like I've become a completely non-functioning part of society over the past two years. Requiem has been the most agonizingly difficult experience I have ever faced. On one side are the logistics of three albums, two and a half hours of music, and financing it all (orchestra included). The other side is the emotional toll; the far too many times I fell in a heap feeling that it would be impossible to succeed and coming oh so close to completely giving up the project. I take many a scar from this process and may never experience this kind of beautiful pain again".

"The albums haunt me with their poignancy and the lines I was literally recording when I received a call to say that my father had died in the most tragic of circumstances will forever shut out the world when played back. I find it surreal and befitting that I subsequently carried his body out of the funeral service held in the grand old church where we happened to record. As overdramatic as it sounds, I seriously sometimes felt like joining him. However, we persevered, and I listen to these vast creations and still can't believe what we've managed here. We will proudly present them. Scarred and almost defeated, it will be such a joy to have a directly human experience on our most in-depth touring schedule ever, covering most of Europe and much of the U.S. I feel privileged to be able to begin in Australia with shows as guests for some one-off appearances by Arcturus, and look forward to announcing all the cities/countries that we will visit."

Adds fellow songwriter Samantha Escarbe about the trilogy, "Each album has its own unique voice and expression, but essentially each needs the other to truly complete what is an intimidating undertaking both in respect to musical tradition and the inherent subject matter. I don't expect people to understand it. I just wrote what I wanted to hear, what I needed to hear."

The tracklisting for 'Requiem - Mezzo Forte' is:

Akercocke - Bassist Leaves, Replacement Announced

Akercocke's bassist Peter Theobalds has announced his surprise departure from the band on January 18. This sudden news comes just as founding members Jason Mendonca and David Gray celebrate the band's tenth anniversary this year.

Peter has said of his departure:
"It's been possibly the most difficult decision in my life to make but after 10 years of the beast that Akercocke has become, it's time to hit the highway in search of new adventures. My reasons are many and varied but the principal factor has been that the original vibe that drove me to play has gone, the fun, the utter immersion of the music and friendship and the camaraderie has been slowly eroding for me personally over the last year or so.
It's given me so many unforgettable moments and brought me into contact with some amazing human beings and situations and I shall sincerely miss all of those aspects. But my heart tells me its time to seek other ideals and situation. I will NOT be giving up music however and will continue to bash out some form of pseudo metallic noise, until chronic rheumatoid arthritis turns my hands into claws or Alzheimer's finally puts paid to what little common sense I currently possess.

Massive massive respect to all those people that have been so unbelievably supportive and encouraging: - my family, the fans, the crews, the bands and other random maniacs that have been there for me all the way. I'd love to do a thank you list but it would just be so long and I'd inevitably forget someone and get branded a total cunt (again), so I'll just say that I raise a glass to all of your honour!
See you in the pit dear friends.

Respect
P."

Meanwhile, Akercocke continue and are pleased to announce Peter Benjamin (Concept, Corpsing, Pantheist) as their new bass player, as the band commence work on their fifth studio album at Goat of Mendes Studios London. The as yet untitled new album is slated for a May 14 2007 release on Earache Records.
