The Old Dead Tree - To Record New Album

Plucked from the official Seasons Of Mist Newsletter:

"French Goth Metal act The Old Dead Tree will soon enter the Stage One Studio in Germany, to record their forthcoming album. The recording sessions will start on next June 3rd and last three weeks. Once again, the band decided to give trust to producer Andy "Master" Classen.

The band describes the new material as "a twisted and schizophrenic blend of evocative riffs and arrangements put together with an overload of sheer emotion. The new songs do widen the previous artistic borders without disavowing the typical musical identity of the band".

The Old Dead Tree's yet to be named third album is tentatively due for a worldwide release in autumn 2007, on Season of Mist. We will get you more details as soon as possible..."

Atheist - Announce Final Shows

Official press release:

Technical metal pioneers Atheist have announced their last-ever U.S. performances. This weekend the band will hit the stage for the last time in their native Florida with headlining shows in Tampa and Miami (at Brass Mug and Club Flower respectively). Following, Atheist will perform at a handful of European festivals before a final show in New York City. A listing of Atheist live appearances can be found below with more info on the band's final show to be announced soon.

Last January, Atheist guitarist/vocalist Kelly Schaefer reassembled much of what was widely considered the band's classic recording line-up (Schaefer, bassist Tony Choy, and drummer Steven Flynn) to perform a select number of one-off shows to celebrate the re-issue of their wildly-influential catalog (1988's 'Piece of Time', 1993's 'Elements', and the 1991's legendary 'Unquestionable Presence'). Among those shows were performances at such legendary festivals such as Germany's Wacken Open Air, Norway's Hole In The Sky Fest, Italy's Evolution Fest, England's Bloodstock Open Air, and the Los Angeles' Murderfest.

Atheist's Shaefer comments, "It's very hard to just walk away from this music that is having its day in the sun. The shows keep getting better and better, and the crowds are full of amazing stories of how they discovered our music. But the best and most important thing to us has been the outpouring of brand new people who have embraced our music as being pivotal to the way they listen to metal. That's far more important to us than anything. We will wrap this all up with one final show in New York that will be filmed for a DVD."

Atheist Live appearances:

April 27 Tampa, FL @ Brass Mug
April 28 Coconut Grove, FL @ Club Flavour
June 23 Dessel, Belgium @ Graspop Metal Meeting Festival
June 24 Clisson, France @ Hellfest 2007

Mors Principium Est - Line Up Update

The following update was posted on the website of Finnish Gothenburg Metal band Mors Principium Est:

"Ok, let's start with some good news. We have found our new guitar players! Karri Kuisma is now our official member and our new solo guitarist is a dude called Tomy Laisto. Both Karri and Tomy allready played with us at the show in Turku (11.4.2007). Jarkko will still be a member of MPE, but he will not play any live shows.

And then some not so good news. We decided with Joona , that it will be the best for everybody that Joona will not be a member of MPE anymore. And the reason why is that Joona just simply doesn't have any time for MPE. At the moment we are not looking for a new keyboard player."

So, the new live lineup will be the following;

Ville Viljanen - vocals
Mikko Sipola - drums
Teemu Heinola - bass
Karri Kuisma - rhythm guitar
Tomy Laisto - solo guitar

Abigail Williams - Call It Quits

US Melodic Black Metallers Abigail Williams have disbanded. The group's official statement reads as follows:

"Abigail Williams has decided to disband. It's no secret that the band has had more than its fair share of lineup problems and the time has now come to close the doors. The MySpace page will remain active and we'll continue to sell merchandise until we run out of stock. Abigail Williams released their debut EP, "Legend," via Candlelight Records earlier this year and it is currently available in stores everywhere. Thanks to everyone at Candlelight who believed in this band and every fan who has supported our music.

Please don't bother asking for specific details surrounding the band's demise; just understand that this was for the better and we'll try to keep everyone posted as to the future endeavors of former band members, etc.

In other news, we've now made 'From A Buried Heart' available for download."
