Eden's Curse - James LaBrie To Guest On New Album

Eden's Curse will return with their latest and third studio release Trinity on the 18th March via AFM Records (Europe) and Metal Mayhem (USA) with Spiritual Beast releasing the album in Japan on 16th March. The band have been working daily on this release fine tuning every last detail over the last twelve months.

Comments the band: "We are delighted to announce that leading the infamous Curse Choir this time around is none other than Dream Theater vocalist James LaBrie."

LaBrie lends his backing vocals to the entire album and also duets with Eden's Curse front man Michael Eden on the slamming epic "No Holy Man", which is also set to be released on the bands European label AFM Records as a digital single on 25th February.

A 90 second clip of "No Holy Man" featuring James LaBrie is available at this location. A promotional video is currently in production as well.

Michael Eden says: "James recorded the Trinity sessions at Iguana Studios in Ontario straight after he finished his solo release Static Impulse, which was perfect timing as he headed off on tour with Iron Maiden immediately after".

James LaBrie himself added: "In 2010 I was fortunate to discover Eden's Curse. I absolutely love this band. Great players and people and they deserve nothing but huge success! They belong with the best of today's music. Trust me, you're going to love this from beginning to end."

Bass player and main song writer Paul Logue explains: "James was highly professional, as you'd expect, extremely approachable and very enthusiastic about our music. We sealed the deal very quickly and we got him in top form as he was also in the middle of recording and we feel the end results are breathtaking."

Front man Michael Eden further adds: "Trinity has been a long time in the making as we always strive to bring our current fan base and new fans our very best. I spoke with James LaBrie backstage on the Iron Maiden tour last summer and we had a great conversation. James has a way of making you see things in a different light than other people. It was an honor to have him along for the ride and we hope that it is not the last time we work together."

The band then goes on to add: "We still have more cool surprises we will announce soon, this party is just getting started."

Trinity was mixed by producer Dennis Ward (Pink Cream 69, Angra, Krokus) at his TrackShak Studio in Karsldorf, Germany.

Detonation - Line-Up Changes

Dutch Gothenburg metal band Detonation has gone gone through some serious line-up changes recently. Guitarist Mike Ferguson (ex-Kutschurft checked in with the following message:

"We have some good and some sad news!

Sad news first... we parted ways with 3 band members recently. Danny Tunker (guitar) and Michiel van der Plicht (drums) have gone on to seek their fame and fortune with God Dethroned and Prostitute Disfigurement. Due to their busy schedules it was impossible to keep playing in Detonation. However, we parted as friends and wish them good luck and much success in these bands.

Also, after 12 years in Detonation Otto Schimmelpenninck (bass) has decided to leave the band. His busy schedule with Delain prohibited his 100% focus and attention for Detonation, and as he did not think this was fair towards us, he respectfully gave up his role as bass player for Detonation. We will miss Otto as a friend and also wish him much success with Delain!

Then the good news!

Koen Romeijn and I have no intention on quitting, quite the contrary, we are more focused and determined than before. We have been practicing with new musicians for a month or so, and it is going great.

On drums we welcome Allard van der Kuip, known from Utrecht band Grindpad. And on bass we welcome Harry van Breda. Harry is known as the vocalist in I-Chaos, and also the guy that recorded and mixed our new album Reprisal. Both new guys come from our town Utrecht, and have been friends of the band since quite a while. Together with Allard and Harry we are driven and focused to get Detonation back on track, playing gigs and kicking ass!

We are very happy with the new guys in the band, and are eager to get our killer new album Reprisal to you. Thank you all for your patience, we'll make sure it will all be worth the wait!"

A release date for Reprisal has yet to be announced. The cover artwork was done by Eliran Kantor.

Reprisal cover art] tracklist:

01. Enslavement
02. There Is No Turning Back
03. Feeding On The Madness
04. Ruptured
05. Absentia Mentis
06. Washing Away The Blood
07. Falling Prey
08. Insults To My Heritage

Dream Theater - Have Entered The Studio

According to a Twitter message from guitarist John Petrucci, Dream Theater have started recording a new full-length album.

Petrucci writes: "First day in studio and the dawn of a new era for DT. Can't wait to get the music flowing."

And what about Mike Portnoy? Well meanwhile, the ex-Avenged Sevenfold drummer and founding member of Dream Theater has joined forces with guitarist Steve Morse (Deep Purple, ex-Kansas), multi-instrumentalist Neal Morse (Transatlantic, Spock's Beard), bassist Dave LaRue (Dixie Dregs) and vocalist Casey McPherson (Alpha Rev, Endochine). The as-yet-unnamed project has just entered the studio as well to begin work on a new album, due later in the year.

Yesterday Portnoy wrote the following on his Facebook: "It's a new year and time for new beginnings... tomorrow I start 2011 Project #1 (of many more to come): MP, Steve Morse, Neal Morse, Dave LaRue & Casey McPherson... the musical potential is off the charts! Very exciting indeed."

Fifth Angel - Back In Business With New Singer

Cult US Power metal act Fifth Angel are officially back in business. After a twenty year break, the band played together for the first time in April last year at the Keep It True XIII Festival. But now the band is back in full force. Here's the official press statement:

"The fans have spoken, and after many years away, their wish is granted! Fifth Angel has returned!

Fifth Angel performed live for the first time last April at the Keep It True Festival in Lauda-Konigshoffen, Germany (with guest vocalist Peter Orullian (Heir Apparent)), and the wheels were set into motion for a full-throttle re-launch of a band long regarded as legendary in the heavy metal history books.

Ed Archer (guitar), Kendall Bechtel (lead guitar) and John Macko (bass), the three original members of the Time Will Tell era of the band, along with new drummer Jeffrey McCormack returned from their critically acclaimed performance to begin the search for their new lead vocalist...

Today, Fifth Angel is proud to announce that their new lead vocalist is an Arizona based powerhouse by the name of David Fefolt!

Metal fans worldwide will recognize this incredible voice from such bands as Valhalla, Hawk, Alex Masi, Forgotten Realm and Angels of Babylon, and now he brings his energy and outstanding vocal talents to Fifth Angel for a new chapter in metal history!

The band is currently demo-ing material for the new cd that will be released later in 2011!

Fifth Angel would like to sincerely and enthusiastically thank each and every one of their fans for the tremendous support throughout the years, and for their continued support! Without you, this would never have happened!"

Ava Inferi - Introduce New Bass Player

Ava Inferi are gearing up for the release of their fourth studio effort Onyx, to be released in February. In the meantime, the band welcomes new bass player Joana Messias (Mourning Lenore) to their ranks.

Ava Inferi main man Rune Erickson (ex-Mayhem, Aura Noir) writes: ""To 2011! The year one!". Although Roman Castevet linked 1966 and a birth to this very phrase, we in Ava Inferi forged the same praise into our own symbolic terms for this newly charged Year. With the magick rites of Onyx soon pouring over us, we definitely sense a year of potent transformation. From cocoon to butterfly, or winged beast if you will, our impact is most certain impending. And what could a better time then now, whilst the new year still struggles to get up on its feet, to announce a new member to our Coven (?!).

It is with great confidence and satisfaction we announce our new 4 string doomster, namely: Joana Messias. We are very excited to commence the live sessions with her on board, knowing there will be a deeper and heavier contribution to our wall of sound! So lets all raise the chalice to this new dawn of AI: To 2011! The year one!"

More Onyx album details were previously reported here.

Slumber - Calling It Quits, Becoming Two New Bands

The new year has barely started and there's already some bad news to report: Swedish Melodic Doom metal band Slumber are calling it a day. However, the members will continue their endeavors in two different bands.

"As from today, Slumber exists no more as a group. Slumber has now turned into two bands", is how the official statement reads.

The first band is called Atoma, and consists of vocalist Ehsan Kalantarpour, guitarist Markus Hill and bassist Siavosh Bigonah (ex-Ondskapt), together with Rickard Insulander, among others. The band's first album Skylight is already recorded and mastered, and will be released in the fall of 2011. Skylight was originally the new upcoming album of Slumber, named Resonance.

More info about Atoma as well as an album preview can be found on MySpace.

The second project, fronted by guitarist Jari Lindholm, is still unnamed, but is apparently two weeks away from recording its debut album. More details and some samples can be found here.

Clandestine Cuts #4 Now Up! Graphic Artists, Cartoonists & Doodlers - We Need You!

Ladies and gentlemen! You know what time it is! It's time for our monthly Demo/EP/Single spotlight special! This month features Astrophobos, Rising, Australis, Desert Beneath The Pavement, Albatross, Heathen Beast, and Sanity Of Impiety! Check it out here.

We could write a long story here about how this feature is by the people - for the people, but frankly we don't need to! You show your support for the underground by giving these guys a listen and giving them a vote if you like 'em. Is it working? Well, since the release of our monthly feature, Skull Fist have found themselves a record & booking deal, and Apsis have apparently been contacted by a few labels. Are these great developments because of our combined efforts? It's impossible to say for sure, but the timing is remarkable. Either way, it's because of people like you that these bands are finding some success. So go vote for your favourite from issue #4! Voting closes for all issues on January 14th, nominees will be revealed shortly thereafter.

Now for some new developments on our end...The year is coming to an end and a new one is beginning, which means a new batch of nominee contenders for the 2011 awards. So for 2011 we want a new picture/emblem image for the Clandestine Cuts feature, and we want you to make it for us! It can be any style of artwork you want, the only rules that apply are that it needs to contain the words "Clandestine Cuts - Demo/EP Spotlight" somewhere on it. The best one will be chosen to represent the article for the next year.

Some questions you may have:
Will I get paid?
Fuck no. End of story. You will be credited at the bottom of each article though.

Do I have to be good at all that art shit?
No. Keep in mind we're just looking for something that will be shrunken down to a 150x150 image, so anything with immense, intricate detail probably won't work as well. So it doesn't matter if your artistic skills rival that of that guy who painted Jesus on that ceiling and stuff, or you just like to draw unicorns on MS Paint in your free time.

Can I steal someone else artwork?
No! It must be YOUR artwork. Plagiarism will not be tolerated.

What if I want you to stop using my image?
Too bad. By submitting your piece, you are agreeing to the terms we set down. And the terms we're setting is that we can whore your picture out at our discretion.

Where do I send the image to?
Attach it to an e-mail, and send it to lukegodin@metalstorm.ee.
