Running Wild - Bassist discusses upcoming album
RUNNING WILD bassist Peter Pichl gave a lengthy interview to the band's official web site in which he briefly discussed the group's upcoming studio album.
"I can't tell you anything yet besides that it's going to be out summer," Peter said. "Rolf is still writing songs. He wasn't able to start his work on the album as early as scheduled, because it took a bit longer to build up his own studio. But he keeps on writing songs and about 20 or so are ready for recording. I'm also really looking forward to them (as much as all of you!). Rolf is really open-minded concerning ideas of the other band-members. If I should have some good ideas (which is sometimes the case), I am going to share them with Rolf, maybe he likes them as well. But I will not be disappointed if he doesn't." Read the rest of the interview here.
RUNNING WILD's last release was the two-disc compilation of re-recorded classics, "20 Years In History", which came out in 2003 through Noise Records. The group's most recent collection of new original songs, "The Brotherhood", was released in 2002.

King Diamond - Mixing of live album in March
KING DIAMOND guitarist Andy LaRocque will begin mixing the group's upcoming live album at the end of March at his Los Angered studio outside Gothenburg, Sweden. According to a posting on the band's web site, "no details are known at the moment such as album title, if it's going to be 2 CD etc. Andy however that most of the song the band played on the USA tour will be on the album."
In a recent interview with Denmark's Metal Reference, frontman King Diamond discussed the recording process for the live CD.
"We wanted to have released earlier than this, but it seemed quite inappropriate as there was no tour to support 'Abigail 2', and we obviously have to conduct more shows than that if we want to select some of the better parts for a live release," he said. "But we definitely thought at that time that we would be able to release a live album."
Asked if the recordings will also be released on DVD, King said, "Oh, no. It's going to be a double live album, this one, and it was recorded on our last US tour, and we almost recorded all the shows for this purpose. A live DVD will probably surface later, and both my record labels Metal Blade and Massacre are interested in joining forces to release it. will however feature live material from our European tour, and this is likely to happen right after summertime 2004."

Gorgoroth singer denies cruelty to animals
The singer of the Norwegian black metal band accused of "offending religious feelings" during a concert in Poland last weekend has rejected accusations that the group had breached the Polish law on protection of animals by displaying the severed and impaled heads of sheep as part of their stage act.
The concert, which took place at the studio of a local TV station, "was never meant to reach the media," GORGOROTH vocalist Gaahl told the NRK newspaper. "Producers Metal Mind bought the sheep heads at a butcher shop. We weren't involved in animal-torture of any kind."
In addition to facing possible animal-cruelty charges, the members of GORGOROTH are suspected of having breached article 196 of the Polish penal code concerning offense to religious feelings, according to Miroslawa Kalinowska-Zajdak, a spokesperson for the public prosecutor in Krakow. The maximum penalty for breaching the article is five years in prison.
A TV station in Krakow, which complained about the performance, had acquired broadcasting rights for the show, Kalinowska-Zajdak said, adding that the prosecutor might ask for Norwegian help in questioning group members.
The singer of GORGOROTH is no stranger to the Norwegian penal system, having previously been convicted three times for various acts of violence, according to the newspaper Bergens Tidende.
In April, the 28-year-old Sunnfjord resident has to face charges for what the police have characterized as "extremely brutal use of force."
On the night of February 22, 2002, the GORGOROTH vocalist is said to have beaten and kicked a man in his 40s repeatedly in his head and face so severely that he had to get stitches in his head, nose and mouth. In addition, the man had sustained injuries to his teeth and nose bone.
The victim was admitted into a hospital and is reported to have suffered long-term injuries. As a result of the incident, the victim's lawyer, Robert Fonn, is asking the GORGOROTH singer to pay 100,000 Norwegian kronor (approximately $14,400) in punitive damages. If convicted, Gaahl faces nine years behind bars.
In 2001, Gaahl was sentenced to one year in prison without parole after an episode of violence where he assaulted his victim for hours. In addition, he was ordered to pay 158,000 kronor (approximately $23,000) in punitive damages.
In the 2001 sentence, the court wrote that Gaahl's use of violence was "extremely raw and brutal", adding that there was no "understandable motive" for the assault.

Iced Earth - European tour postponed
ICED EARTH mainman Jon Schaffer has posted the following message on the band's official web site:
"Hello All,
"As some of you may have heard I recently had lower back surgery. It seemed early on that things were going well with my recovery, however in recent weeks a new problem has developed. I will be undergoing some intense testing in the next week to 10 days to see what the next steps will be. Which leads to the bad news, due to the serious complications with my back, we're going to have to postpone the European leg of the tour and possibly even the first 2 weeks or so of the US Tour. It really depends on what the doctor says after all testing is done and the options are on the table. If another surgery is necessary it may push the tour back even more. Obviously this is the absolute last thing that we ever want to do, but my health has to come first, and the potential of causing permanent damage is very real.
"Those of you that have been following the band for a long time know that it's always top priority to give you the best show possible. At the current and very intense level of pain that I'm in, there's no way that I'd be able to do my part and give 100%, and you don't deserve anything less.
"The guys in the band are as disappointed as I am but they are understanding and supportive at the same time.
" 'The Glorious Burden' is by far the album that has received the best reviews in the band's history, charted the best around the world, sold more than double in the early stages compared with 'Horror Show' in all major territories, and continues to grow full steam ahead. It is the album that I knew it would be and I hate that we have to change our plans due to my back problems. However, in the big picture, it's the only decision that I can make.
"I hope you all can understand the seriousness of the situation. Please know that as much as this sucks, it's the best thing for me, the band, and for you.
"The tour WILL happen, and when it does, I guarantee you will see the best ICED EARTH show you ever have! I feel 10 years younger and am having fun again, it totally sucks that my back is causing these problems!
"I thank you in advance for your support through this tough time and will keep you posted as to my progress...
"Take care, Jon Schaffer"
