The Chant - New Album Details

Official press release

The Chant are back with their second studio album This is the World we Know. The album is readily available for purchase in stores following release on April 14th 2010. The opening single "New Reality" is now available on MySpace.

The Chant are taking the next step following the success of their debut Ghostlines, which was widely appreciated, across genres, winning plaudits for notably crossing the boundaries of the metal scene. For their new album This is the World we Know; The Chant have taken a step towards what you could say is a more serene and ambient rock style to what we heard before. The Chant are preparing to take their journey to the next level, reaching out to music lovers with an evermore diverse collection of songs enthusing subtle metal elements with atmospheric overtones, very much setting them apart from the metal bands of Finland as we know it.

Guitarist Jussi Hämäläinen and keyboard player Mari Jämbäck comment on the new album: "It's musically more challenging than our debut Ghostlines. In addition to having strong atmospheres and melodies, we aimed to make the songs rhythmically more interesting. Even though we planned the albums theme and tracks thoroughly before recording we tried to go towards a more organic expression that would be easier to perform live. We also avoided cramming the tracks and achieved a more spacious overall sound."

Much like Ghostlines, This Is The World We Know was produced by Ville Sorvali and Mixed by Mikko Herranen and is released by Full Metal Records.

This Is The World We Know cover art] tracklist:

01. New Reality

03. November 1987
04. The Black Ascension
05. Will You Follow?
06. Safe World

Shadowside - New Video Online

Shadowside has uploaded the video for the song "Hideaway" from the Dare to Dream album, second studio effort from the Brazilian Metal band. This album was produced and mixed by Dave Schiffman (System Of A Down, Audioslave, Avenged Sevenfold and others) and Howie Weinberg (Aerosmith, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Pantera, Rush and others), and reached position number 4 in the Brazilian Metal charts.

The video, directed, produced and edited by Luiz Felipe Amorim, took place in an abandoned garage in their hometown Santos, Brazil. It features the band performing as well as lead singer Dani Nolden playing the main character. According to her, the song talks about "people who are misunderstood, mistreated and put down by society for their whole lives, for the sole reason of being different and unusual. In this case, we portrayed it on a more personal level and showed a teenage girl accused by her mother of painting masks to disrespect her, to be aggressive, while all she wants is to express herself and ends up hiding who she really is".

We're definitely ready to take everything to the next level with this release."

Greatest Metal Video Ever... So Far

It is Sunday morning, there's a huge amount of dead serious news to be reported, so there's certainly no room for fooling around. Just like in the previous editions, this feature only takes care of severely important matters, being the high value metal videos - aka the ones that are not recorded in an abandoned factory/the frontman's backyard/high school parking lots. So sit up straight. Remove that chewing gum. No smiling allowed.

Greatest metal video of all time... for this week... is Red Fang - Prehistoric Dog.

Here's the breathtakingly simple formula for making the greatest metal video ever recorded: you need beer, medieval weaponry, vomit, blood, more beer, armored dudes destroying each other, RPG nerds, you really don't have enough beer yet, the clip should be full of awesome (despite the RPG nerds), there should be some metal in it too, beer cans, make that lots and lots of beer cans, a Chihuahua, and some dudes jamming in a kitchen... or something.

Red Fang's self-titled debut was released in March 2009 through Sargent House.

PS: my apologies to the guy hero who suggested this totally awesome video for not acknowledging his contribution - my mailbox was destroyed by a tsunami/my dog ate your letter/I (accidentally) deleted your PM to make more room for Viagra spam. Sorry brah

Thryce with your suggestions for next week's edition.]

Watain - New Album Ready

Original news, posted on 26.02.2010

Swedish black metal squad Watain just completed their fourth full-length album, after two intense months at Necromorbus Studio.

Vocalist and mastermind E. comments: "I am now holding in my hand the final master tape of what might be the most dynamic and charged Watain release ever recorded. May the gods unto which it is written be pleased! We are very much looking forward to share this rich feast with our followers, whom we know have been hungering for a very long time. All I can say is that it will be worth the wait. We raise our cups unto all of you whose patience and support have been constant during the three fiery years since the release of Sworn to the Dark, and look forward to set the night aflame with you again soon!"

The unveiling of Watain's fourth monument will take place on June 7th, under ceremonial circumstances yet to be revealed.

Watain will also release a new single entitled Reaping Death. It will be released as a picture 7" EP on Walpurgisnacht. This single will feature the track "Reaping Death", along with a special B side.

UPDATED on 25.03.2010

The title of the fourth Watain album, to be released on June 7th, has been announced. Its name shall be Lawless Darkness.

"The title symbolises the unbound chaotic potential of that which is void of light", frontman E. comments. "The light that defines, the light that shapes and restricts. The light by which the forces of law and order uphold their reign. In the absence of that light lies the wellspring of Watain: in Lawless Darkness.

With this album and in all of our efforts with Watain we aim to capture the hungry madness and glimmering purity of darkness beyond illusion, the void that holds all yet where naught is manifest, the primordial tomb into which all the vanity of man and his creation shall collapse: indeed, The Lawless Darkness. Lawless Darkness shall be seen as a monument erected in honour of that collapse and a dedication to all those brave souls, who have willingly dared to venture the winding paths towards it."

UPDATE

Watain have announced the final details for the upcoming Lawless Darkness, due on June 7th. The digipak version will include the Death SS cover "Chains of Death" as a bonus track. The song can also be heard on the Reaping Death picture 7" single, due April 30th.

01. Death's Cold Dark
