Anathema - New Album Update

Anathema are very pleased to announce that the "Hindsight" album has been finished and the masters have been sent to the record company. As you may be aware, "Hindsight" is a semi acoustic album of classic Anathema tracks, and includes one new song.

Work on the new Anathema album "Horizons" is already well underway. We expect this to be our greatest album by a long, long way.

In other news, Danny Cavanagh will be touring Norway and Sweden with Anneke Van Giersbergen, former singer of The Gathering and now with Agua De Annique. Expect some special performances together. Not to be missed!

Danny Cavanagh / Anneke Van Giersbergen tour dates:

June 12 - Glassheim, Jevnaker, Norway
June 13 - Ravnedalen, Kristiansand, Norway
June 14 - Blue Garden, Trondheim, Norway
June 15 - Buckleys, Oslo, Norway
June 16 - Klubb Garage, Marsta/Stockholm, Sweden

In related news, Anathema have posted the following:

"It has been brought to our attention that the "Spherical Minds" album "Fern" is being passed around the internet as Anathema new material. The only Anathema new material we have released online are the three songs you can find on this site and on our Myspace page. Any supposed "demo" of any other song is probably Danny Cavanagh doing guest vocals on the "Spherical Minds" album. So just to let you know, if you think you are listening to "Lightning Song" or "Bricks"... you are not."

Thrash And Burn - N. American Tour Dates

The organizers of the Summer Slaughter Tour have just announced a second nationwide underground festival tour to take place later in the Summer. It's called The Thrash And Burn Tour, presented by Revolver Magazine in conjunction with Deathcote, Merch Now and Iron Fist Clothing.

While Summer Slaughter is known to be "The Most Extreme Tour of the Year" with a cutting edge line-up focused on pure progressive brutality and the different faces of death metal, The Thrash And Burn Tour will showcase a diverse mix of underground metal bands who draw from decades of Thrash, Punk and Hardcore to mold their 21st century sounds. Darkest Hour, fresh off their tour with At The Gates has been chosen to headline this tour.

Thrash And Burn aims to give the underground metal fan a relatively inexpensive way to see two handfuls of the most relevant bands today in an indoor setting.

Tour Organizer Mike Mowery comments "We aim to provide an inexpensive day of metal, thrash and punk. We've chosen a number of bands who compliment each other very well, yet keeping it diverse enough so there's something for the shredders, the moshers and the scenesters alike."

Darkest Hour will be supported by Parkway Drive, Misery Signals, Winds Of Plague, Stick To Your Guns, Arsis, Light This City, Arsonists Get All The Girls and After The Burial. All stops on the tour will see the addition of a special guest band for a total of 10 national acts each night. Special Guests scheduled to appear on certain dates include Suicide Silence, As Blood Runs Black, Emmure, Veil Of Maya, Brother Von Doom and more.

Darkest Hour's unofficial moniker "Live To Thrash, Thrash To Live" made them a perfect fit to headline the tour. Guitarist Mike Schleibaum had this to say: "Darkest Hour is excited to headline this year's inaugural Thrash and Burn tour. Touring with younger bands has always been something we have been about. It's a good way to keep metal evolving and progressing. We are stoked to be able to tour along with good friends Misery Signals, Parkway Drive, and Light This City and of course we look forward to hanging and partying with all the new friends we are soon to make! We want to send Deliver Us out with a party so see everyone in the pit!"

Thrash And Burn Tour Organizer Ash Avildsen had this to add: "We wanted to make a tour that could give people a chance to see young bands in the current underground that have made their own voice by drawing from a range of influences in heavy music throughout the past 20 years. I have always felt that Darkest Hour are one of the few bands that have truly been able to capture the timeless power of Thrash and Gothenburg metal with the modern energy and passion of punk and hardcore. With that being said, we couldn't have asked for a better headliner to launch the Thrash and Burn Tour in 2008. And If there is one thing that can bring the worlds of metal, punk and hardcore together, it's a circle pit. Washington DC's Darkest Hour will show you how this Summer."

Khold - New Album In June

Northern Metal webzine is reporting that, reactivated Norwegian cult act Khold is back after a short break. Since their debut release in 2001, the excellent album "Masterpiss Of Pain", Khold has established themselves as a leading force within the Black Metal genre. Khold hits tight as clenched fists, and you are bound to enjoy their crunchy mid-paced black/doom compositions. Khold's fifth opus is entitled "Hundre År Gammal" and will be released on June 9th via Norwegian Tabu Records. Check artwork here.

Hundre År Gammal finalized frack-listing:

1. Der Kulden Rår
2. Forrykt
3. Hundre År Gammal
4. Mester Og Trell
5. Troløs
6. Rekviem
7. Sann Ditt Svik
8. Villfaren
9. Bønn
10. Kor
11. Straff

(English translations provided by Northern Metal in brackets)

In April 2006, Khold announced that they were going on hiatus "for an undetermined length of time."

Morbid Angel - New Guitarist Named

Metal Hammer writer Joel McIver reports that the new guitarist in Florida Death Metal legends Morbid Angel is none other than Zyklon's longtime axemeister Destructhor (Thor Anders Myhren).

Frontman David Vincent told Metal Hammer in a recent interview, "The hunt for another guitarist to play alongside Trey (Azagthoth, the band's primary songwriter) was long and difficult. Man, I tell you, we had tapes sent to us from all over the world from guys who wanted to play in our band, and many of them were extremely talented - but Thor was the right choice for us. He's a fantastic guitarist and fits right in with the band. Also, Zyklon have supported Morbid Angel in the past, so the guys knew each other already.

Thor Anders "Destructhor" Myhren is also known from his work for Norwegian Brutal Death Metal band Myrkskog.

In other news, Morbid Angel vocalist David Vincent is also set to appear on the new Soulfly album, "Conquer". More about that here.

Gotthard - Official Fan Song For Switzerland's National Soccer Team

Audience and jury have decided: Gotthard´s song "Lift U Up" - which is about motivating each other in a team and reaching aims togehter - is the official song of Switzerland´s National Soccer Team for the upcoming European Championship. In a survey, run by Switzerland´s biggest newspaper "Blick", readers and national team chose the song as the winning title, Link].

Next to that, no other than German star producer Mousse T. has been responsible for the remix. In 1998, Mousse T. could celebrate a big success with the hit single "Horny", followed by numerous other hits Mousse T. has done the remixes for, such as "Sex Bomb" by Tom Jones, "Let ´s Go To Bed" by No Angels or "Is It Cos´ I'm Cool" by Emma Lanford. Concerning Mousse T. ´s latest remix for "Lift U Up", the players of the Swiss National Soccer Team prove that they are not only self-confident when it comes to kicking, but also when it comes to singing: the guys have personally sang the chorus of the track! Surely quite an unusual job for David Degen from FC Basel, Hakan Yakin and Marco Streller, who have both already played for VfB Stuttgart, Benjamin Huggel (formerly: Eintracht Frankfurt!), the keeper and audience ´s star Pascal Zuberbühler (formerly: Bayer Leverkusen) and all the other national players.

The recordings with band and national team took place in the famous Powerplay Studios in Zurich, Switzerland. Europe have recorded their world hit "The Final Countdown" there already. The joint-venture surely is an honour for both sides: the internationally successful group Gotthard is proud to support their national team for the European Championship with a song and most of the players of the national team have been huge Gotthard fans for many years. So one thing is sure already: if the Swiss kickers can act as convincing as in the studio during the next couple of weeks, than the championship will be a great one for them!

The official "Lift U Up" maxi-cd will be released as a bonus of a "Reloaded"-release of Gotthard´s album "Lipservice" on June, 20th. As a download single, the songs will be released on June 6th already. Also, Gotthard will play a couple of shows in the near future, check all upcoming dates here!

Cynic - Sign To Season Of Mist

The news was announced a few days ago already, but here's the official word from Seasons Of Mist:

"Season of Mist is really proud to announce that a new cult band just joined the roster. Let's welcome legendary American progressive jazzy death metal band Cynic! Most of the label's team have been a fan of the band's milestone and so far only album, "Focus", so needless to say we at Season of Mist are all extremely excited about this new collaboration. Here's frontman Paul Masvidal's comment about the signing:

"We're pleased to be back in business with Season of Mist as our record company. They have tremendous enthusiasm and passion for our work. Our bottom line was a company that understood what Cynic does and believes in it 100%. We found that with SOM. We're deep in the pre-production album process now and will be headed into the studio in a couple weeks to dive even deeper and start the recordings with our talented friend Warren Riker at the engineering / mixing helm. The journey of writing this record has taken Reinert and I to new heights of exploration, straight into the heart of Cynic's soul. We're thrilled to be able to share this new work with the best fans in the world. Stay tuned."

The release of Cynic's sophomore album, which will be out on Season of Mist fifteen years after "Focus", is set to next autumn. In the meantime, you can check the band's new MySpace profile http://www.myspace.com/cyniconline, on which you can hear an excerpt of the demo to the brand new track "Integral Birth"!

Shaped around founding members Paul Masvidal and Sean Reinert, the new line-up sees the return of bass god Sean Malone and the addition of Dutch guitarist Tymon Kruidenier who will also be in charge of 'death' vocals. The band are set to enter the studio this summer with Grammy Award winning Warren Riker (Down, Santana, etc.) to begin work on their long-awaited follow-up to "Focus". The album will contain eight songs, and the band are working once again with renowned artist Venosa (who created the unmistakeable cover and visuals for "Focus"), and the new album will be preceded by additional live shows, including a special appearance at Wacken Open Air, Germany, on next August 1st."

Destruction - New Album Due This Summer

Teutonic Thrash veterans Destruction have entered the Hansen Studio and have revealed their new album will be entitled "D.E.V.O.L.U.T.I.O.N."! The official AFM Records press release reads as follows:

"2008 - 25 years of German Thrash Metal history has elapsed, but still the unrelenting Thrash Monster that is Destruction is hungry, out there and on your trail!! The degeneration of the human race human can be delayed no longer.

Perfectly transforming this ethos into 10 destructive new Thrash hymns including blistering moments such as "Offenders Of The Throne", "Under Compulsion" or "Doomed To Devolution", this upcoming album will re-write Thrash Metal history! Meaner and more musical than ever before, the German metal originator reports back after three years without a new studio record! Sure, "Thrash Anthems" put down a marker, but that was bringing the past stingingly up to date. This is the future. Mark the 29th of August as an "Official" Thrash Metal Holiday!!!

While we were enjoying the first rays of Spring earlier this month, Destruction's three way killing machine was hard at work. Songwriting and final rehearsals are now complete, and Schmier, Mike and Marc will withdraw to the Hansen Studios in Ribe, Denmark with Jacob Hansen on April 21st.

"Celebrating 25 years of Destruction is of course an additional motivation to record a new classic", reports Schmier with his characteristic "Code Of Honour"!! "But the band has never before been so well prepared for a recording, and the new material is very dynamic crashing straight in your face! All Thrash maniacs can now look forward to a merciless and varied album which will put its predecessors in the shade! Beware!!"

On the release front the new album is set to be released in Europe on the 29th of August 2008 (Sept. 1st in the UK). And, Destruction will then devastate the musical landscape with their historic "25th Anniversary World Tour" details of which will follow in due course. There are also plans for a full DVD release later in the year; all in the cause of celebrating one-quarter century of classic German Thrash Metal with all the faithful fans worldwide!"
