Angra - New Album Will Be 'Much Heavier'

Angra is putting the very final touches unto its new album. The CD is going to be released in October and shall be the main event in the band's 15th anniversary celebrations.

The name of the record has been finally announced. It's called "Aurora Consurgens", which is also the title of an old book written by Saint Thomas of Aquin. Such book was used by Jung to establish relations between dreams and different mental conditions. Contrary to the band's latest album, "Temple Of Shadows", the forthcoming effort is not a concept album. However, all lyrics do have a common theme: the various mental issues, including suicidal tendencies, schizophrenia, manic depression, sociopathy, etc. The artwork was once again designed by Portuguese artist Isabel de Amorim.

Musically, the new album depicts a much heavier Angra. It doesn't mean the usual style of the band is lost, though. In fact, all tunes still rely on the influence of Brazilian music and there's a lot of percussion in the arrangements, several orchestral parts, etc. The songwriting process saw the participation of all members, so the album is quite diversified. At the same time, it maintains all the main characteristics of the band.

As an innovation, a "virtual single" will precede the release of the new album: fans will be able to download the song "The Course Of Nature" from the Internet. The artwork of the single will also be online, so it can be downloaded and printed as well. Such single must be available around September.

Read more at the Angra website.

Candlemass - Resumes Recording New Album - Without Messiah

Candlemass returned to the Stockholm Polar studio this weekend to add one song to the forthcoming album. The brutally heavy "Of Stars And Smoke" was put down with ease and in a very releaxed working environment. Since the new album wont be out until next year, there is no need to rush things and the band can take their time to make it a perfect doom metal album.

Mappe Björkman commented: "Of Stars And Smoke" definatley had a vibe of "Epicus..." around it. It sent fucking chills down my spine".

Candlemass frontman Messiah Marcolin contacted Blabbermouth.net on April 28, 2006 to reveal that he has parted ways with the group and that it's 100 percent definite that he will not return. "We could not agree on how to do the new album," he said, but would not further elaborate on his sudden exit.

Lordi - More Details About Horror Film

Finnish heavy-metal rockers Lordi, surprise winners of the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest, announced plans to make and star in a horror film, reports said Monday.

The band's frontman, Tomi Putaansuu, also known as Mr Lordi, told Finland's biggest evening paper Ilta-Sanomat about the plans.
'We are very enthusiastic about this. We have talked about this for months and the first version of the script has already been made,' Putaansuu was quoted as telling the newspaper.

The storyline is based on an idea by Lordi and director Pete Riski, who has directed several of the group's videos.
'It is not going to be a children's movie or a family film. I mean, let's face it, very few horror films are made that way. We don't play music on screen. We are just going to be monsters,' Putaansuu said, adding that funding was yet to be secured for the project.

Producer Markus Selin told Ilta-Sanomat that the decision about movie has to be made before November. That way the movie could hit European markets in May.

Manowar - Release Of "The Sons Of Odin" EP

Manowar will release their first-ever EP, entitled "The Sons of Odin", on the following dates:

October 6, 2006 (Germany)
October 9, 2006 (rest of Europe)
October 24, 2006 (USA)

The band's bassist, Joey DeMaio, said "we decided that just a single wasn't enough. We want to give our fans maximum value for minimum expense and the EP format is the best way to do that. It gives us the opportunity to cram tons of audio and video content into one package."

The EP will feature over 27 minutes of total playing time. Besides "The Sons of Odin" ? which features Manowar's patented, lion-hearted metal riffs mixed with arena-rock stomping grooves and orchestral arrangements ? the EP includes the title track from the upcoming Manowar full-length album, "Gods of War", an orchestral version of the new song "Odin" and live performances of "The Ascension" and "King of Kings" from the Earthshaker Fest 2005. A special Immortal Package digipak version will also feature a bonus DVD boasting 38 minutes of footage from the first-ever Manowar Fan Convention in 2005 and the band's rehearsal of "Heart of Steel" ? recorded in the Czech Republic with a full choir and orchestra ? as well as a video trailer for the upcoming "Live at Earthshaker Fest 2005" DVD. Finally, the DVD will also include a special audio section with 5.1 audio mixes of all 5 EP songs as well as a slide show of exclusive Manowar live shots and photos submitted by fans.

Cradle Of Filth - New Song Available For Streaming

A brand new Cradle Of Filthtrack, entitled "Dirge Inferno", is available for streaming here. The song comes off the British extreme metallers' new album, "Thornography", due on October 16 via Roadrunner Records. The follow-up to 2004's "Nymphetamine", "Thornography" was recorded at Lincolnshire, England's Chapel studios with producer Rob Caggiano and was mixed at Backstage Studios in Derbyshire, England by Andy Sneap.

"Thornography" track listing:

Under Pregnant Skies She Comes Alive Like Miss Leviathan
Dirge Inferno
Tonight in Flames
Libertina Grimm
Byronic Man
I Am The Thorn
Cemetery And Sundown
Lovesick For Mina
The Foetus Of A New Day Kicking
Rise Of The Pentagram
Under Huntress Moon
Temptation

The narraration for "Thornography" was once again laid down by Doug Bradley (a.k.a. "Hellraiser"'s chief Cenobite, Pinhead), who has previously worked with the group on "Her Ghost in the Fog" and "Swansong for a Raven".

On the subject of the album's musicial direction, Cradle Of Filth guitarist Paul Allender recently told Terrorizer magazine, "There are quite a few guitar solos on this album. To be honest, I've never really classed myself as a lead player as such, but this is the first time I've sat down and seriously practiced lead work. I've been so involved in actually writing new material and coming up with song structures that I haven't had time to practice all the frilly things that go on top of it. Up 'till now, there hasn't really been much room for guitar solos as such. The riffs we write, they're not riffs that are meant to be soloed on top of. They're melodic within themselves. But I'm a great believer than less is definitely more. I love listening to all the shreddy, widdly stuff, but I have no interest in playing it. This new album is quite guitar-orientated. The last album was, but this is definitely more melodic. Dare I say it, there are quite a lot of typical Maiden-esque harmonies in there."

Shining - Comment On Rumors Of Singer's Suicide

Conny Jarlestal, the official spokesman of Shining posted this on the band's official website:

"There have been many rumours saying that our front-man, founder Kvarforth is dead, we wish these speculations to be put to an end by telling you what we know:

A couple of days ago, we received a letter from a person very close to Kvarforth telling us that Kvaforth had decided to leave this world behind and also introducing as a kind off last will, a new singer to replace him for future events of Shining.

All that we know for 200% is that Kvarforth has been missing for the past 4 weeks and might be dead we don´t really know for us, the band, this come as no surprise as he have been suffering from extreme anxiety and depressions the past 6 months and some truly extreme things, considering his own personal life, occurred dramatically right before he disappeared. However, we wish to send our deepest regrets to our friend and sadistical leader Kvarforth wherever he might be!

Kvarforth did as mentioned, involve a new singer in the band without telling us before he left, his name is Ghoul and will be introduced on the release-show we are holding in December. No one of us, the band members have meet him yet but a contact have been established via letter-exchange, and as this was Kvarforth's own will, we are now officially presenting our newest member, whoever this might be, Ghoul.

It shall also be said that both me and the guys in the band have heard Kvarforths wish that Shining should get a new singer if he died or disappeared but we never thought that it would come to this point! But it has so we welcome Ghoul to this misery."
