Chthonic - Performance In Hong Kong Canceled Due To Visa Denial

Taiwanese metal band Chthonic were to perform at On The Pulse Of Music Festival in Hong Kong but had to cancel their appearance due to frontman Freddy Lim's visa being denied. The reason, apparently, is because the singer didn't "possess a special skill, knowledge or experience of value". More can be read below.

This would not have been the first time Chthonic would have performed in Hong Kong, though, as they have performed previously at Chokenflap 2014.

This however didn't stop them from being completely absent. During HOCC's performance, the band was video called and they performed an acoustic rendition of "Millennia's Faith Undone".

Well, for sure this was politically motivated. With Jinping's China become more and more totalitarian, this was bound to happen. I think Lim and his platform deny the One China Policy and are part of the Pan-Green coalition, which supports Taiwanese independence. The reason why he could perform in 2014 was probably because he held no political office yet.

Nobody should be surprised, no matter you think from the perspective of a Taiwanese or a Chinese.
