Why not? They did it with Stormblåst too.

Stormblast was terribly produced from the get-go. They brought the sound of a classic up to standard with the band's sound at the time. None of that is true for PEM.

Plus Stormblast was re-recorded. This is just a bugfix.

I don't see how most of the songs on this, especially kings of the carnival creation, could ever be improved upon, but i'm here for it. if anything, it's an excuse to listen to a great album again in a new light. digging the album artwork, though.

For the cool artwork obviously.

And money.

This new version sounds so muffled it makes the original seem like the remastered/remixed one. It doesn't even sound like their newer records, which always had crystal clear production (something the original also had), so this seems like a money move and nothing else. At least the new cover looks better.

Their old stuff is better.

Two albums in 12 years and the big reveal is another re-release of an album that doesn't need the treatment...

I don't understand why remix an album like Puritanical that was great at the time and still sounds perfect. I stay with the old one that I listen with great pleasure after 20 years. Something isn't right anymore with this band. They were one of my favorite bands and I liked them up to "Death Cult Armageddon" (made exception for the new version of Stormblast which is completely lacking of the original, wonderful atmosphere). They just can't do it anymore! What a shame! And all this fillers albums in my opinion (live and remix) are just an easy way of buying time... So sad...

This is pointless. I don' see how it could be improved. The original is perfectly produced and mastered.

I guess the old mix was made at a time when the lo-fi productions of the early days turned into shrillness (Thy Primordial's last and a few other records also has an overly bright top end). The new one has more depth. I'm only checking this through work headphones but I'd wager this new one sounds better on a finely tuned sound system.

We just got used to the shrillness, it's closely associated with black metal at this point.
