Opeth - Album Artwork Revealed
The cover artwork for "Watershed", the forthcoming album from Swedish metallers Opeth, can be viewed here. The cover was (as usual) designed by Travis Smith in co-operation with frontman/guitarist Mikael Åkerfeldt.
"Watershed" is scheduled for release on June 3 via Roadrunner Records (one day earlier internationally). The CD, recorded in the band's native Sweden and produced by frontman/guitarist Mikael Åkerfeldt and Jens Bogren, is a masterwork that follows the time-honored Opeth tradition; its modern yet timeless, progressive yet paying homage to the sounds of classic rock.

Personally don't think the artwork is very striking. Opeth artwork more often than not just strikes me as cliche goth art. Blackwater Park and Morningrise had an especially doom like presence, I liked those. As for the music to come, I'm excited. Each album has its own sound and its fun to see where they will progress next. I like the artist enough to not expect anything from them. Whatever they throw at me should be good, it all has been so far. I enjoy the band's entire spectrum from the black death metal to acoustic lullabies. It's nice. Standard fair for Opeth really. They could have made it better. Reminds me of something Katatonia might have chosen, but they always work with that same guy don't they.

Most people here left a one sentence comment on what they felt about the cover, yours is the longest message here, so what does that say about masturbatory complaints? I can't find any comment here where someones said the new album is going to suck based on the appearance of this cover...

no, i think the artwork for the special edition is pretty bad, too. Blackwater Park special edition with the 2 extra songs was boring, too. Simply black with a dark grey opeth-"O".

It's without doubts the worst cover from Opeth. Even MAYH is better [because it shows the feeling that you get from the cd] But this one seems.. really boring.

Written by X-Ray Rod on 13.04.2008 at 20:35 I only hope the Watershed cover artwork doesn't show the feelings that I'm going to get from the album  It's actually happened before with Deliverance because I find the album (and the artwork) quite lacking by Opeth standards, perhaps this time the damage is restricted to the visual aspects of Watershed and hopefully nothing more than that.

I really feel many things while seeing that booklet. Like you said.. I hope that The cover from Watershed doesn't show how the music will be. Because if that's the case, Opeth will die for me u.u I really disliked Ghost Reveries.. and Opeth is my favorite band, so I'm really nervous and want that this album will be good...

i like the cover. its dark and 'sick' in a way, which i guess is the point. even if some people dont like it, i dont think that anyone could say that it is not at least decent...so it doesnt matter whether you like it or not...as long as you like the music. maybe the cover will make more sense after listening to the album anyway...

I though that it was impossible to give it a better cover art... the whole picture of a dark forest was awesome and maked a lot of sense.

Always in the same soul, the artwork is similar to Damnation deliverance or ghost reveries' artwork:p The songs it was very exciting as usual with folk instruments... I find a pleasure when I listen it. A new revolution for Opeth
