From start to finish, what is the one Metal record that has the best guitar work on it? There are many factors to consider when making this decision. Do you like brutal riffs throughout the entire album? The guitar solo? Or do you like an album that has an absolute crushing track with heavy riffs, fast guitar solos, and unreal time breakdowns, then the next track has an acoustic intro? Be sure to explain the your pick as to why its the best metal guitar album of all time. Anyways, mine would be Unquestionable Presence by Atheist because of the technical feel with amazing solo work. Everything synchronizes together so well. It might not be the fastest or heaviest, but its just mind blowing with everything going on as far as the guitars are concerned on that album.

Yeah, I didn't get the "task" either. So you should say which metal album is the coolest in terms of guitar sound? So it actually could be any album?

15.03.2009 - 19:52 Written by Bad English on 15.03.2009 at 18:57 Exactly, youll get all sorts of variety and input from other people. As long as they explain why they like it the most, what more can you ask for? Let a doom fan pick an album that they think has masterful guitars and let them explain why they love the magical epic feeling and atmosphere the album brings.

Can we all agree that METAL is a musical GENRE??? If yes, What album within this musical GENRE called METAL (as some of you may know, idk just speculation on my part that some of you know what metal is) has the best guitar work in it?? Not that hard really to figure out. For example, i chose Unquestionable Presence as my favorite guitar album because i like the guitars in it more than any other metal album. I know, its rocket science really to be able to figure out what this all means.

OK, sorry for the bitching. For me, it's definitely Megadeth - Rust in Peace. The strongest album ever regarding solos, that's for sure. Marty Friedman did a killer of a job, and the songs themselves are incredibly well-written: the rhythm sections are just something amazing, so that's a bow to Dave Mustaine. As far as Unquestionable Presence, I listened to it recently, and I can't say that there was nothing cool about guitars, but I didn't really notice anything astonishing, but your post made me wanna listen to it again - this time through headphones - what I am doing right now. EDIT: I think it's growing on me.

Hmmm... either Iced Earth- Night of the Stormrider, Judas Priest- Screaming for Vengeance, or Yngwie Malmsteen- Rising Force. all 3 have superb rhythm and lead guitar work. Jon Schaffer, KK Downing, Glen Tipton and Yngwie are all guitar masters, Schaffer more for riffs, Glen and K for their solo trading and impossibly catchy guitar parts, and Yngwie because of his impossibly polished technique.

I do agree with you about it, its fantastic. Unquestionable presence just blows me away everytime i listen to it man for some reason. Everything just fits and sounds perfect. And Valentin B, ive noticed your a pretty big admirer of priest and the guitar work of Glen and KK on other topics. Cant remember which one though ![]()

My favorite is "Sirens" by Savatage. Criss' riffs were just so fresh and unique, as were his solos. R.I.P. Criss Oliva.

Written by Metal_Militia on 16.03.2009 at 02:32 both of them. they fit so well together, whether it be KK playing lead or Glen or both rhythm or just harmonizing. to this day the only time i've seen just one of them on stage was Glen's solo in Victim of Changes on the Rising in the East concert DVD. oh and on the same DVD, check out Riding on the Wind on the same dvd, the chemistry between them is simply great, they trade solo's like passing a football around. technically speaking, they're both really damn good(i can't say which is better though), even though KK does a bit more rhythm guitar. found out when i checked out the booklet of Painkiller and found out it wasn't just Glen who did the intro for Metal Meltdown, it was both of them. but as my personal favorite of the two, it's Glen, KK is a guitarist i thoroughly admire, he's a fucking beast on the whammy bar abuse and shredding stuff(Dissident Aggressor), though Glen can do much of that (first solo in Painkiller) and also managed to pull off some really good feeling solo's like Beyond the Realms of Death or Dreamer Deceiver.

Black Sabbath is a very important and infulential metal guitar album. Gorguts' Obscura is one of the most technical/impressive/whatever. Sleep's Dopesmoker is large/longer than many.

One of the best soloing is in the album "hall of the mountain king" by Savatage. the best solo is in "Legions". Criss Oliva is briliant in his guitar work. Dude, I can not name one album with best solo work. it will be unfair to a lot others. so I'll name few: Rust in Peace by Megadeth Pain Killer by Judas Priest, "touch of evil" is one of my fav solo work in the album Joe Satriani has many great work, best solo for me is in the song "The Forgotten II" I can't understand Athiest yet but I am trying. all I can understand is that it is very hard and intrict work but I can't feel it. This is a good topic if we focused on the best solos as far as feeling, techniques, originality, etc. whether a in a song or in an album.

Too many to choose from, I cannot just choose one. Not all metal albums have good guitar though. Iron Maiden and Judas Priest are two bands who put out albums with killer guitar, because of the harmony between guitarists. Dream Theater has some pretty kick ass guitar work, can not go wrong with John. But their are more, I like the sound of guitars in power metal albums a lot of times, bands like Blind Guardian. Symphony x has good guitar because they are like Dream Theater, but with a good mix of power metal. Lets see, Metallica, Megadeth, Iced Earth. Oh and Lets not forget Black Sabbath. Tony Iommi is a great all around guitarist of course.

I have to go with "Master of Puppets" by Metallica. There's crushing riffs, cool solos, mellow melodical shit... it has it all I guess. Although I think Megadeth's "Rust in Peace" is damn close too.

I'd go with something new, Symphony X "Paradise Lost", because it's the perfect mix of teh Power Metal cheese with the proggressive virtuousness, and all along teh album you can feel it, awesome solos but without beng pretentious or oberwhelming, and without loosing teh cheese.

Iron Maiden's "The Number of The Beast" and Metallica's "Master of Puppets" could both be my favorites in terms of just guitar work. I know they're more Hard-Rock, but I really liked Guns n Rose's "Appetite for Destruction". It's a different style, a little bit more bluesy, but it brings me back to my childhood ![]()
