Metalstorm is dead! Killed by fanboys.

Also antifanboys. "There are no valid reasons to be discussed about music because it is all subjective. There is no point." At certain moments sometimes some persons can not understand this.

Metal Storm is dead. Metal Storm remains dead. And we have killed him. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers? What was holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet owned has bled to death under our knives: who will wipe this blood off us? What water is there for us to clean ourselves? What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we have to invent? Is not the greatness of this deed too great for us? Must we ourselves not become Metal Storms simply to appear worthy of it? ... To be honest, I don't know how the hell it happened. You begin to question the general opinions, and all of a sudden you have a war on tr00ists (and fanboys).

25.08.2010 - 13:52 Written by vezzy on 25.08.2010 at 13:03 There's a world of difference between "questioning" someone'e opinion, and totally rubbishing it and insulting the person for holding it. No actually, "questioning" someone's opinion at all, is wrong. Everyone is entitled to like what they like music wise, without being given the 3rd degree, or insulted, over it. Castigating someone for holding a different musical opinion to your own, is the realm of blind fanboys and ultra kvlt elitists. And neither position should be tolerated on a metal site if it wants to be taken seriously as a place where intelligent discussion and debate on bands/albums can take place without the need for the type of immature nonsense that's been going on around here lately. I totally agree with the OP. I always thought MS was a site that was free from that type of idiocy. Frankly, some of what Ive seen over the last month or so is actually WORSE than anything I witnessed on MA's boards. Which really is saying something.

Well... I haven't registered for very long, but I've seen fanboys around here from day 1, but it hasn't really stopped me from discovering lots of great music. Here's how I did it: 1) Tarja VS Anette? Ignore 2) New Iron Maiden? Don't even look at the discussion because I already know what to expect 3) Metallica and Megadeth? many arguments there are pointless because so much are established facts already. can't even be bothered to participate XD

Mention Metallica, you're bound to get Megadeth. Mention Megadeth, Metallica is simply inevitable. @AS: Some opinions are simply outlandish and ridiculous. You can't go around and claim the new Maiden is a masterpiece or St. Anger is the best album of 2003 and not get questioned.

25.08.2010 - 14:14 Written by vezzy on 25.08.2010 at 14:01 Not so, I cannot agree at all. If someone genuinely loves the music on either of those albums, how exactly is that "outlandish and ridiculous"? Just because you can't understand how anyone could think that, doesn't mean their opinion is "wrong" or "ridiculous". There are plenty of albums that others like that I think are totally rubbish, but I wouldnt call people's opinions on those albums "ridiculous" just because they happen to like an album which I don't. Attack the band and album by all means, but once you push it into the realms of personal insults and attacks, that should not be tolerated. Ag Fox: I take it you didnt have the misfortune of seeing the thread on the new "Diminished" album? Even the threads on the latest Maiden and A7X albums, failed to plummet to the depths of that one. Im just glad it was finally closed.

Fanboys have always been the greatest plague on metal boards. Problem with them is they lack the judgment required to make the difference between saying that an album or a band sucks in the view of another person, and insulting other members. They take criticism at bands on a personal level and act all offended, as if it would be an insult targeted directly at them. I like lots of bands very much but, honestly, I don't give a fuck if someone says "this band sucks". It makes no difference in my life. So, I never understood the blind fanboy-ish attitude. The only way to deal with fanboys who start to throw all kinds of irrelevant insults at people is a warning, then if it doesn't stop, it shall be immediate (and permanent) ban. I think the staff has better control on the board now but insults have been tolerated way too much a few weeks ago.

Well, when you look at it, St. Anger simply is inferior to other albums. In technicality, St. Anger is a bunch of basic riffs, snare and minimalism in general. It is constantly repeated and it is down-tuned (Drop C, I think) to give it the effect of a suffocated garage jam session. Now, if you compare it to... say, We've Come For You All, which although still a rather lacking effort, it has a more completed feel and alternation between riffs. Sure, personal insults shouldn't be tolerated... depends on the nature of them though. EDIT: Also, Diminished became so because with the advent of the internet, bands can easily track down who's paying attention to them in the internet. They see negative reception, they troll in "revenge".

25.08.2010 - 14:29 Written by Ag Fox on 25.08.2010 at 14:20 I did post in it a couple of times early on, but once it descended into the sheer farce it became, I refused to be any part of that. I do not respect the opinions of any of the people who supported the album, because they had no respect for other's opinions. They called everyone who hated the album "gay", changed criticiser's posts into complete nonsense that even some 10 year olds would blush at... It was just a total joke. I didnt post in it apart from the first page, but I still looked at it occassionally, and was surprised it was tolerated for as long as it was. @Hidden_Dictator: Couldn't agree more. One warning for personal attacks/insults, then if the user persists, a permanent ban should be issued.

@St. Anger: That is just a really pointless arguement which goes nowhere. What's wrong with basic riffs and minimalism? Brutal death/grind is a genre that basically thrives on those attributes. A small amount of bands aside. Punk rock, which is a genre I also enjoy, is very minimalist in its nature. Basic and minimalist doesnt automatically equal "bad". Of course though, thats all down to personal opinion which is the whole point. No, I dont think any personal attacks should be tolerated regardless of their "nature". As that allows certain people to get away with it while other's are banned. The only fair way to enforce that, is for all personal attacks to not be tolerated.

Having been modding other forums myself for quite a few years, I usually take up quite a loose approach as long as nothing goes too offensive. But I really would have thought the average user age on here would help to make the discussions more mature. Guess the mods would just have to toughen their stances a bit more. Though MS is a rather big forum so it is harder to moderate. Imagine a report system, I bet there will be tonnes of moderater notices each day haha

25.08.2010 - 14:45 Written by Doc G. on 25.08.2010 at 14:35 Sure, but I think it went way too far recently and some threads became a bad joke. I think tolerating personal insults (and even entire paragraphs of insults) like it happened recently undermine the credibility of this board. N.B. I'm aware that I'm not 'white as snow' myself, having been harsh and insulting at times. But when people come on board and immediately start to throw insults at you, you feel kinda forced to fire back. I didn't post personal insults before (only criticism at bands and albums) and I haven't done it a single time after the staff took care of those fanboys.

It does? Weird... because last time I listened to Terrorizer, early Carcass and most recently, Antraks, it didn't seem so. Oh wait, because it isn't so. Combination of great, dirty and abrasive riffs plus drumming and vocals... seriously. How can it NOT be respected? Big difference between many brutal death/grind bands and St. Anger, as St. Anger felt plain and lacking a foundation. Punk rock is usually brief and carries a strong message (some of the more prolific bands, anyway). It has energy and passion, like for example the short hardcore punk songs of Dead Kennedys. St. Anger just drags along, it's meaningless. Now, isn't THIS an opinion too? I guess it is, but I don't think you can easily deny my points. The BDM/grind offers intense and well-executed violence, punk has a strong message and agenda coated in its aggressive beat/guitar pattern(s). Take for example, Sex Pistols' "Bodies". That's how you voice an agenda. Like I said, the nature. Sadly, since this is the internet, we can't use body language and voice tone, instead relying on faux-BBCode tags or just plain admitting playfulness/sarcasm.

@Vezzy: Geez.... Early Carcass is leagues ahead of most modern BM/Grind bands in terms of musicianship and song quality IMO. I was talking about the majority, not the minority. I think that you'll find for people who dont agree with you, it would be VERY easy for them to deny your points. Now, I think St. Anger has plenty of flaws, but unlike you, I dont think my opinion on the album is the be all/end all and last word on the subject. Opinions on musical validity are NOT facts. No matter how much fanboys and tr00ists would like to protest otherwise.

Even still, it has no actual foundation to it, which makes it sound really plain when it slows down or takes breaks. The lyrics also do nothing but annoy ("Frantic"). Edit: @AS: Same can be said for the majority of European power metal. I don't really *think* you can say it's so great it's better than everything/almost everything released in 2003... unless we're in some fluffy "whatever you like" utopia... also, ironic, since you do seem to have a taste for mocking Mortician, haha.
