Chapters From A Vale Forlorn was the las album with Mathias Blad, the two next albums Sceptre Of Deception and Grime Vs. Grandeur are god works but I don't like the voice of Kristoffer Gobel, I think that Mathias Blad is the "heart" of Falconer, for that reason their return in Northwind marked to Falconer like one of the Best Power Metal bands in 2006.

The music video for carnival of disgust from their new album, Among Beggars and Thieves, is up on youtube. Since they will probably never tour the US, its good to get to see them in a music video at least. Its not the best music video I've ever seen, but it is pretty cool with a nice twist at the end.

wow, i bought their new album today and am almost done with my first spin (the last song is starting while i am writing this line) my first impression? BRILLIANT although in my eyes it doesn't quite top the self-titled debut (which is my personal top power metal album of all times) but it obviously OWNS Northwind and (naturally) the shitty grime and scepter, actually it might even be better than chapters if i give it a few more tries! all i can say is wow, these guys really did it, they have returned to their former glory... by the way i just noticed this last (bonus) track is a swedish and orchestral version of Chapters' great We Sold Our Homesteads. i prefer the original because of the very enjoyable lyrics, but this one is great too and by the way2; especially the track Man Of The Hour is superb! i doubt i'll listen to much else the next days

Yes, I woulnd't expect them to beat "falconer" any time soon, I don't think any other band can do that either at this point! But hey, I will get it soon and then I'll be able to give my opinion about it. But tks for the info

I want to echo the praise that Bas has given to the new Falconer: It is certainly one of the best power metal albums of 2008 without a doubt! It's a close second to the great self-titled album for me; mainly because that debut created the Falconer sound, whereas this one expands on it, hence not being as original in that aspect. But really, all those great folk elements that were on Northwind that just didn't excite me that much are on the new album, and they are done so well, and with a lot of passion and energy . There isn't a bad track on the album - which is why I loved the debut so much. On this new one, we get some real beautiful vocals in Swedish too, which I think makes this album more diverse - along with some well done female vocals in some songs. Hard to tell what my favorite tracks are because the album as a whole is just great. Hopefully I can get my hands on a limited edition version if it's available

falconer's singer has a really weird voice. it fits fine in power metal. its just really weird sounding for a reason i cant explain.

13.09.2008 - 05:56 Written by LeChron James on 13.09.2008 at 04:57 Thats actually one of the reasons I like him as a vocalist. I think it might be due to his background in musical theater that his singing sounds strange to metallers.

13.09.2008 - 05:59 Written by Hrothdane on 13.09.2008 at 05:56 that could very well be it. he definitely does sound like he has some kinda theater background and he looks like he has too.

Yes I agree Mathias has a unique and theatrical voice, and I know for a fact that's why I love the CDs with him on it most, and am truly happy he's back in the band. I think that's why so many people get passionate about their opinions on Falconer, because even if you don't Mattias's style, you can't deny he's got something special I've yet to see the band live, but from the pictures I've seen they seem to have a great personality on stage... so hopefully someday soon And now with so many great songs on the new CD, the playlist would be even better!

06.10.2008 - 08:35 Written by Hrothdane on 26.09.2008 at 06:58 Yes, exactly, to me this new CD has captured the magic that made their debut so amazing! I simply cannot stop listening to it. My current favorite song is "Mountain Men," which has some of the best theater-style metal vocals ever used, I think. If you love Falconer, I don't see how you could dislike this one!

Absolutely monster of an album! To me top 3 of 2008 definitely! Love all of it, especially the Swedish songs and "Mountain Men". This album has received quite a lot of criticism on other metal websites saying theyve become fairy metal and the vocals overpower the music - bullshit me thinks! Stellar album and my next buy for sure!

07.10.2008 - 05:45 Written by Hrothdane on 26.09.2008 at 06:58 Indeed, there alot of similarities, a very strong album, btu at teh same time it has that folk vein and of course Mathias Vocals are as amazing as always. And as tehy promised, it is indeed faster than Northwind. And I have to say, Northwind was quite good.

11.10.2008 - 09:06 Written by [user id=1909] on 06.10.2008 at 15:34 Anyone who thinks that the band has become "fairy" metal either hasn't been paying attention to the band's progression since 2001 - or just thinks that Falconer should only define itself based on that 2001 self-titled debut. What makes "Among Beggars and Thieves" a killer album is that Mattias sounds better than ever - and the band is writing the music to perfectly fit is ever-expanding talents. Those other metal reviewers can transport themselves back to 2001 and stay there for all I care, and pray that the band never changes. For the rest of us, we can enjoy what may be the best power metal album of 2008 !! I am definitely hoping to get ahold of the digibook version...

Among Beggars And Thieves just arrived by mail today and it went straight in the player...and it might stay there for quite a while 'cause it's great. Not as folky as I thought it would be, but that's ok since all the other elements are just excellent.

As an instrument I really like the keyboard but there are just some bands I think would be better off without and also many of which I'm really happy they don't have a keyboard. Falconer is one of them

Yeah Falconer is better without keyboards IMO. No need to have keys just because you're a power metal band

Great band, but I gotta be in the right mood. The singer seemed not entirely "into it" when he came back. But still quite great stuff!

Best powermetal band today...fact. The little twists and turns within their songs are fantastic, unexpected melodies and prob the vocalist with the warmest voice Ive heard in ages. Seriously great songwriting and just an incredible band overall.
