I hope that just because they released this album, their setlist on live shows won't consist on clean-vocal-only songs like Opeth did for a while. I have yet to see these guys live and that would be a good reason to leave things like that.

Hard to grasp at first, but quite enjoyable after a few spins. Voix Sereines, Shelter and Délivrance are absolutely great. I can't quite enjoy the track Opale though, the weakest spot in the album for me.

No black metal here, just shoegaze... Opale is their worst track, but as a whole it is acceptable, a rather safe-played album but nonetheless, good. But not something worth praising.

Not at all. There's not a single Metal element in this album.

Well... you shouldn't avoid an album or have some prejudice towards it just because it can't be labelled as metal.
...On the other hand, I really can't recommend this album in particular to anyone, as I find it extremely bland and by the numbers.

The first average Alcest's album....
I enjoyed only "L'Eveil Des Muses".

A lot of people dont like this album just because it is not labelled as metal and the other ones say it is bad after listening just a few songs. I think it is very enjoyable and not hard to grasp. You should give a chance, a "real" chance

Nope. That's just an objectively wrong statement.
My problem is that it doesn't incorporate any of the interesting bits found in Voyages de l'ame, which used about the same formula. While that album's little variety still managed to fascinate me and while there were a few strong songs on the album's first half, this album lacks any strong songs whatsoever.

Overall, I'd say the album is pretty mediocre. It still has that nice ethereal sound to it, but there are very few moments that really grab you. Voix Sereines is a damn good track though.

Maybe not exactly but I think that a bit of truth in this can be. I know of such cases I don't want to generalize, but I think you will agree with me, generally the trend is: soften sound = significantly lower notes. But whether such an approach can be called objective? Maybe this is another coincidence, or perhaps again some work here of this not always justified mechanism. I think it's definitely worth a rethink.
"Shelter" is certainly not the outstanding work, but while listening, a few times I really felt a tickle in the stomach. Introspectively, melodic, emotionally - in a word: shoegaze.

This is not shoegaze, at least not as a primary genre. It's just a bland and drowsy dream-pop/post-rock album. But since Alcest became popular during the last decade, metalheads seem to hear shoegaze everywhere and whenever a guitar has a little bit more distortion or effects than usual. Maybe there was a bit of shoegaze in Le Secret and Souvenirs, but the following albums are all melodic and dreamy metal with clean/harsh vocals and bits of black here and there - the sound is very clear, if not clinical.
Regardless of the genre, it stinks.

I respect your opinion, but I look and really can't believe that these words come from a man who gives 10 "Dead End Kings". But as they say: there's no accounting for taste.. but you have right to be surprised

Some of my highest ratings have an affective value and DEK is one of them, I realize it's not "da best eva" but frankly I don't care - anyway this should have nothing to do with the Shelter topic.

And that is what I say from the beginning. The problem of the objectivity. And I think this may be one of the reasons for such large discrepancies here.

Not liking this album is one thing, but not liking brushing teeth? Come on man. One is a matter of tastes, the other is a matter of smell - bad, bad smell...

Too damn fluffy. God knows I really wanted to like this album, but I just can't. It's pretty OK when I'm really drunk and mellow (like now), but listening to it sober reveals a staggering lack of just the thing that was great about Alcest.
I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. The previous album clearly pointed to where Alcest would eventually end up. I just didn't expect that "eventually" would turn out to be the next fucking album.
Oh, well. It's decent mellow-out music. I suppose people get their usual fix of that through the new Anathema albums, but I'll take Shelter over that.
