I watched the show before I knew it was based on books but few months ago I started to read the first book (haven't had the chance to read anything besides study materials ever since) and I guess I'm glad I already knew what all characters look like. anyway, recently I spotted the other four books in a bookstore and I think I'll make an exception and buy them (I rarely buy fiction books as I just read them once and then put away, so what's the point of that?)... winter's the coolest season for reading books.

plus, if one's worrying about the language... well, um, practice makes perfect, right? reading books is one of the best ways how to improve your knowledge in any language.

Yeah, it is pretty enjoyable if not slightly disturbing... a la the fight in the morgue.

That was quite disturbing indeed, seems they intentionally want to make it so as per the production commentary in the end of that episode. But absolutely loved the last line "This town is..." by Ash in that scene. Instant classic.

New as in new season? Never gone beyond the half of second season in south park.

Season 20.

Their latest episode "Douche and a Danish" particularly is mind blowing.

Last Week Tonight With John Oliver Season 3 finally got over. Sad that there will not be any englishman comedy for me to devour on Monday nights (Its, cuz I usually always watch it the next day once its on the net).

The last episode was starkly with a serious note though after the election results and not funny at all, kinda somewhat disappointing. Same is the problem with this whole season which was overtly muddled with the political coverage and stupid US problems unlike last season which was brilliant and unforgettable with the Snowden interview, twitter feud with Ecuador president, Church formation and the fifa jokes. Those are such a classic. Can't remember any big funny part though but the one that had me laughing the most was the "Most patient man on TV" gag. That was brilliant though and defo my fav of this season.

On the other hand, The Grand Tour is starting this weekend so wooo hooo! Good gravy juice I'm excited.

Just watched The Grand Tour's first episode. Got off to a good start I'd say. But they have a lot to match their own version of Top Gear, which I friggin' love. Lets see if the think tank here could come up with enough stuff. What I'd like is less supercars and more DIY car stuff, challenges and commentary about cars and driving in general which tbh this first episode didn't have much.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

Some of the most insanely cheesiest, saccharine-filled, diabetes-inducing stuff I've ever seen on a TV show. Not even sure why I bothered to watch it. Just watched the pilot expecting some good comedy or something but what it was some disney's musical for adults. Not an ounce of comedy either. I've read in many places that the lead actress' performance was commendable and really good but it wasn't really what I was expecting. I think I may need some good ole Hannibal or Dexter episodes to balance out the cheesiness. Fuck.

Man, The Grand Tour is awesome so far! I liked the first two episodes but i have a feeling they are still to go full out nuts as the season progress. Its a bit on safe side but, still good old Clarkson, May , Hammond drill we are used too.

True Detective.

Edit: One of the best duo-performances ever seen on network. Rust Cohle and Marty Hart.

A lot has been ripped from Adam-12 but nonetheless they're terrific on scripts.

Wow, the first time I'm seeing anybody mention something like this. If its anything like the police procedural that True Detective S01 is, then I'm all up for it.

Just finished Parks and Recreation season 1 & 2.

An american version of The Office that actually works. Aziz ansari is my favorite though, followed closely by Nick Offerman and Chris Pratt. Amy Poehler is also a really marketable and worthy lead who carries the weight of the character and leads along quite nicely. I'm not sure if they did it consciously or not but it really works on to avoid the mistakes and pitfalls of other modern US sitcoms like The Office, Modern Family etc. where there were/are too many filler or irritating characters and just a single comedic and enjoyable character but this is the first time I've seen an US sitcom where there are no annoying or boring characters although Chris pratt's role could've been written a bit better and is just too dumb or cliche so far.

Ansari seems to be having his own unique style and his reactions and one-liners are fuckin' A. Same case with Nick Offerman and especially love how he stereotypes the government job and hates it and his character is really really well written.

Nick/Ron Swanson steals the show. Food quotes, anti-gov't quotes. Great stuff.

Last season sucks, though.

I have no idea who Nick Swanson is, guessing it will be a new character introduced further into a series which I will definitely be watching as Parks and Rec is rather not a lame American sitcom as I thought it would be.

As much as I have a nostalgic love for the series, it's a bit like Star Trek TNG: very patchy. Great storylines and characters, but plenty of generic or cringe-worthy filler. I do think S4 is one of the best (7 is really good to), so hopefully it will draw you in. In retrospect, although I didn't admit it at the time, SG: Atlantis is probably the better series.

Watching first season of Flash myself, it's finally on Finnish Netflix. It's really good, better than Arrow (which I also liked, but the contrast of soapy rich boy drama and grimdark batmanning did not complement the fantastical setting; and the villains were nowhere as entertaining).

SG: Atlantis is probably the better series.

Interesting you think that. I really like it because I'm a sucker for any kind of sci-fi more or less regardless of quality, but I think without Dr. McKay it would probably be quite dull due to lack of interesting characters. Ronon and Tayla are perhaps 2 of the most uninteresting characters in the franchise. In fact I think the only purpose of Ronon's character is as a plot device for getting the team into trouble. Sheppard is ok but he's kind of a Jack O' Neil without the quirks.

It's true though that SG1 is full of filler episodes. I'm currently watching through ST: TNG again as the HD version is on Netflix as it's practically a tick-list of episodes SG1 rips off. When it's great it's great though, and even when it's not I'd say it's carried through on the merits of the character's personalities, dialogue and humour.

To be honest, I haven't watched either SG series in years, so it may be that my memories are distorted. You're right about the characters: the original SG-1 had a great dynamic between the cast, including the support from Hammond and Fraiser (and Landry was good too). McKay is obviously the highlight, but I also like Weir as a leader. I dunno, I remember Atlantis having a tighter story arc with less filler but possiby that's untrue.

TNG is definitely always kept afloat by its cast, which is the overall strongest of the franchise (even if some of the best single characters are in DS9 and Voyager). I wonder how the series would play if one made the effort to cut out all the bad/filler episodes (unless they're vital to the plot).

It's probably why I prefer DS9 these days over TNG, as after the first season or so it focused heavily on an ongoing plot. TNG is fun though, especially some of the Data-centric ones. Ironically he seemed to get more varied acting opportunities than anyone else in the cast. TNG's only ongoing arc was probably the Borg ones, though they tended to be pretty good. Too many Klingon honour ones too though for me which I never found interesting.

Interesting, you're making me excited for this season since I share your opinion that it has lots of filler. And since we were planning to do Atlantis next it's intriguing to see that you think it might be better.

Actually, before we started season 4 of SG-1 we started watching The Expanse on Netlix. We only have one episode to go but it was a pretty good series so far. At the very least I can say it was refreshing to have a sci-fi tv-show set in space with CGI effects that aren't garbage.

Ok so I have watched some serries starting from last year:
- there is Breaking Bad. Fucking amazing and I dont think anything can be better than it. You guys of course know it.
-Rick And Morty: Love the crazy story and the subtle sickness of it. Great show on all fronts.
-House of Cards: I liked it a lot, especially since I follow US politics closely. I also loved the pragmatical approach of FU, but I must admit that the show gets a repetitive. It also worked pretty well within the frame of my mind as I have been developing a lust for power and have been driven by crazy ambitions recently. Good role model to have
-true deective S1: amazing show, great story, and perfect acting. The monologes are just beyond great.
-black mirror: I was skeptical about it initially as I don;t like si-fi movies almost always. It turned out to be a great show. There is inconsistensy between the quality of different episods, as they are not connected and are directed by different people, but most of the episodes were great thus far.Especially loved "15 million merit", "white bear", "white christmass", "Shut Up and Dance", and "San Junipero".
-started westworld recently, and it is also amazing. Very complex, with a lot of details into the storyline. It is like a maze, truly.

Also I should maybe mention that I stopped dexter a couple of years ago after 6 seasons. Should had done done after the first season tbh. highly predictable and cheesy. Dexter himself was one of the shallowest characters of any hyped serries I've ever watched. I could predict when he wanted to start doing the annoying narrations, and I could predict what he is going to say. The first season was great, but the rest I would not rate more than 6/10. Pure waste of time.

Lol to clarify my earlier post I was actually wondering whether its TD-style food for thoughts show or just GoT-type brainless eye-candy stuff. I know it isn't any bit closer to those 2 shows thematically or genre-wise.
