Dauði Baldrs is Burzum's first album after Varg Vikernes got arrested; and as such it is the first one that was written exclusively in prison. Because he had no access to any other instrument, Varg could only use a synthesizer to record this album. Additionally, it is said he recorded the whole album on a simple tape recorder in his cell.

I really like this album. It's such grim cheesiness... Like Jawas dissecting a human corpse, or somesuch grimness. I do like the atmosphere, but I can see how a lot of people wouldn't like this album. Casio Black Metal. I reiterate - I really like this album.

This is a great album i agree, and i can see why most metal heads hate it, not exactly head banging stuff, but i have a passion for classical music and metal witch is why i love this album, the dark ambient sound was forced on varg but it was a nice change,

The only people I can see disliking this album is the "Clean vocals blah" asses. But I must say me and Grandma greatly enjoy this album on the rides to the local H-E-B.

Listening to it again and carefully right now...why it only reminds me my beginnings with MIDI sampling program?

This is a pretty good album. The absence of black metal overtones dont overshadow the haunting and hypnotic melodies that have been in burzum's career right from the start, as they are all present and correct on this album,as far as i can tell.

Wow, this is so cheesy, sounds like the soundtrack to an old Sega game.

I feel like this could have been made by Gene from Bob's Burgers. Especially in the first track.

Actually, it HAS the dark atmosphere created in the previous Burzum albums. I like this album, especially the last two tracks. My only problem with it is that all songs are constructed barely in two or three sequences...

'Cause it's so called 'dungeon synth', and while Varg didn't know about this genre, he made some track in this style. And listen to some dungeon synth, and you'll understand that it has to be simple, with some layers only;)

I have to admit that I've been too harsh on this album. After some time passed and after a couple of auditions, I actually started to like it. It is not a bad album at all, it just takes more time and probably a different mindset for it to be appreciated.

I actually don't mind this track at all but I'd like to hear it done proper.

Yeah, I discovered this subgenre through Mortiis side works, and I also loved it. I even changed my rating from 8 to 9

Well, Burzum is cool and all but I too think just the same bit repeated over and over again gets boring. he could have cropped the songs in half.
And no this is not a characteristic of dungeon synth. Even Mortiis knew how to vary more the compositions on his songs. He did 20+ minute songs which wouldn't get tiring so quickly

With second track I can see Varg dancing and jumping in spring surrounded by butterflies and flowers after a hard and depressing winter

And stabbing the butterflies in self-defence.

This album sounds like a joke, it's pretty bad. It has the merit to not being that long, which makes it more bearable than what was released this year. At times it sounds like the kind of stuff I could have done with my keyboard when I was 10

It's not too bad I suppose, considering he only had a simple synthesizer to work with, the tracks just start to become extremely tedious after a while.
