1996 was a good year for Metal Music, Behemoth released their album Grom, Arch Enemy released "Black Earth", Cannibal Corpse found that George Fisher was better than Chris Barnes and released "Vile", Mortician, after 7 years of demos and EPs, finally released their first Full Length album and called it "Hacked Up For Barbecue", and a little Canadian Band Called Cryptopsy Released a great album called "None So Vile".

Death metal. The musical genre concerned with death, hatred and anguish. The aural paragon of blood, gore and mutilation. Ever since it was created about 20 years ago, death metal left nothing nasty undealt with; from the repulsive scenery of gory violence to the deepest of mental aberrations, it covered pretty much everything vile, both musically and lyrically, with death being the recurring theme. Not all bands though were able to convey the actual horror of death, but some wrote albums that redefined death in an aural way. One of these records is Cryptopsy's None So Vile.

This has grown on me a lot. I like it a lot better than Suffocation for some reason.
The vocalist sounds absolutely deranged and unhinged on this album! Crazy stuff!

That's a tricky one to call for me. Pierced From Within is one of my favourite OSDM albums but this a frickin classic as well.

Coming back to it, I can say I really like it sonically: constant chainsaw sound, real drums completely thrashed, and crazy vocals. But frankly, the music isn't that great. Some good riffs here and there, but super repetitive 4:4 patterns, the solos - despite having melody - don't really go anywhere. Everything is samey for half an hour and only Phobophile stands out thanks to the piano intro. This album isn't necessarilly good, but it's a one of a kind experience.

As for Suffocation, they are far better than this.

Alright, I've listened to this album a couple more times. While the vocals still aren't my favorite they totally fit the album. It's like a punch to face in the best way.

Vocals are almost the best part for me (the drums are far and away the best). To each their own though, and I definitely agree they fit the album

This album finally fully "clicked" for me. I've been jamming it A TON and even went to see Cryptopsy live (with Death to All). It's taken time to grow on me but it gets better each time I listen to it. Lord Worm's vocals are unhinged with well written lyrics. The instrumentals speak for themselves too. It's intense and unrelenting which I love and it's a good contrast to all the gloomy stuff that I like.

The lyrics are absolutely hilariously awful. That aside, this album is fucking classic.

This is fine art in its most vulgar form, a timeless masterpiece of pure unadulterated blasphemy.

I can't go on a BDM phase without revisiting what I think is the genre's pinnacle album. Lyrics aside the songwriting is great with the performance from each musician on top form (especially the drummer who's an absolute beast here), and the production is sensational. I'd even say it's one of the best produced in extreme metal as a whole, every instrument is tightly compact and crystal clear but still hits you brutally hard in the face, it's simply relentless.

A little too brutal for my taste. But this is BDM as it should be: hiper fast, super agressive and crowned with demented vocals. The vocals in fact are so deranged that is hard to follow what is screaming, even with the lyrics in front of you . The drumming is absolutely insane but well done

Highlights: "Graves of the Fathers", "Phobophile"

Songs all sound too similar and blur together. Riffs are not memorable. Production is lacking. Still don't understand the hype.

Its alright you don't have to yet. Maybe not ever. You either like or you dont and sometimes after a couple years of ear pummeling you eventually get it. Some never do. Cryptopsy, especially None So Vile, not unlike their brethren Gorguts are an acquired taste that doesn't always work for everyone. That's ok, you can't like every single subgenre now can you?

The strange thing is I don't mind brutal/technical death metal. Love me some Nile, Dying Fetus, or Defeated Sanity. And I would gladly take the newest Cryptopsy album over this. Beats me.
