Posted a small link for this a while back but think I might have overlooked it. Kinda industrial-y, sludge-y djent? If Meshuggah went sludge, I dunno. Heavy and good. Herod

Bits and pieces. Pretty fun black and roll / punk black metal. Simple but effective. Vocals remind me of the Meads a little. Earth Plague Solid mix of traditional doom and Electric Wizard worship. Red Eye Decent, messy hardcore / black metal hybrid. Moro Moro Land Nice, aggressive but modern black metal. Drastus This album is fun, and heavy and nasty. In a way it has qualities of slammy, brutal death metal, but it isn't quite that. They describe themselves as hardcore / doom / sludge metal, and I guess I could go with that. The downtuned vocals are rather satisfying. Mastiff And yet another example of fine Polish black metal craftmanship. Bezkresy

Teaser of a new project by Camille from Smohalla and Stagnant Waters (which are also releasing a new album this year, hooray). Weird as ever psychoblack.

New deafheaven track, more raw and harsh than their usual approach. Almost had to double check the name to make sure it is not a new band under the same name.

^ Shame that's only a one-off. Much better than their usual stuff. Basically punk in a black metal uniform. Fun. Brand spanking new Saint Vitus track. Saint Vitus This is some fairly sick, wacky avant-garde / mathcore stuff. Not too heavy on the aggression, but lots of off-kilter goodness.

Very pleasing sludge doom with some drone qualities. This one differentiates itself by having a sort of faded quality about it. The vocals in particular sound like they were recorded a mile away in a misty bog. Dead End Thoughts

Some really good thrash metal from Bulgaria. A bit of a weird band in terms of line-up. They have 8 bandmembers... and 4 of them are lead guitarists?!?! How many lead guitarists can you possibly need? And then there are 2 other guitarists (because why not... I suppose). One of them is a multi-instrumentalist so he also plays drums and bass... oh and he does the vocals as well. So if you look at their line-up they have 2 people that drum, 2 people who play bass and 6 guitarists on this album... I don't know what is going on here but the result is a good thrash record.

04.03.2019 - 02:44 Written by Karlabos on 03.03.2019 at 23:07 Maybe that's what they're aiming for. Being the Glenn Branca for thrash metal. Tbh I'm only familiar with Symphony 13 from Glenn Branca but from what I remember that's with 100 guitars. So in that case only 92 more to go.

Doom metal from Switzerland. Love the tone of this record. The guitars have a nice raw yet deep sound to them. And the voice of the singer fits perfectly with the music.

07.03.2019 - 02:33 Written by nikarg on 07.03.2019 at 01:16 That's unfortunate. It sucks when you get into the instrumental part of an album to then hear vocals you don't like. Like I said, I personally like them and think they fit well. A nice balance between grit and clarity in his voice imo.

Epic black metal from Sweden. A bit too much Behemoth-y. Mephorash Suffering Hour is back with a new ep. New Ensnared track sounds great. From the upcoming untitled as of now, full length.

Brave - The Calm, The Storm Washington DC area prog band with female vocals and electric violin. These guys have been around for a long time and have played local shows opening for name bands. This album is the highlight of their discography. It hits on everything: songs, production, performances... https://bravemusic.com/

New super group of sorts featuring Matron Thorn, Mories, H V Lyngdal, Kabukimono and Jarle Byberg. Sounds heavily close to the works of Matron Thorn followed by Lyngdal than all the others. Obscuring Veil And there's a new Ola Englund solo album coming on the way as well.

Second part of IER's ghosts trilogy already out. Not so black metal as the first album, this is more experimental mixing a lot of genres along the 43 minute main track.
