Lots of metal Heads feel that this genre has
nothing to offer, that it is unintelegent and
without feeling, that it's all about smokin'
joints and gang wars.
But others may realize that rap and metal
arn't so different after all. Just look at
How Public Enemy Did a Song with Anthrax,
It's simple, both metal and rap can tend to have
rebelious and politically themed music. (punk to actually)
They both can indicate Drug problems and spiritual
Awareness.
For me, Rap is my favorite Genre of Music second
only to metal (Of Course!) Because I feel, well......
Pretty much the same as how I explained on the previous
Paragraph. It's intelligent, Political and for the most part
rebellious music. It also sounds good to me, If it's a good
M.C., the words flow like water with the Beat in the background.
So, what about you, is it stupid to you?
Do just not like the Sound?
Or maby you Love the sound,
and hey, do you relate to it?
Go Forth and Tell me!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT: If you're going to critisize this genre of Music in any Negative way, Please make sure you critisize it with some inteligence. Statements like "The Only Good Rapper is a dead one,"

I'm not that into rap or hip-hop, but I can enjoy a song once in a while. However I found an artist today that completly blew my mind away. He is simply incredible with words... Ther artist I'm talking abut is the swedish Henry Bowers(aka "Kung Henry"), who also participate in slam-poetry. http://www.henrybowers.com/ http://www.myspace.com/kunghenrybowers

I'm also in Rap but I like more Greek underground stuff. but some bands/artists that I have heard and like and maybe you know them -except from the all time classic stuff from MTV like Dr. Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Xzibit, DMX, Wu Tang Clan, Cypress Hill etc- are: Psycho Realm, Jedi Mind Tricks, Army Of The Pharaohs, La Coka Nostra, Ill Bill, Necro and some Horrorcore like Necronomicon with The Devil'z Rejects album, Halfbreed and KontamiNATION, Gravediggaz with Niggamortis, a little bit Esham (waiting for his new album actually) and the Ghetto Metal king Sutter Kain!!!! and finally, I like very much French Rap and artists like Supreme NTM, Fonky Family, IAM, 59 Grammes, Fatal Bazooka ... still searching this genre actually, more to come ...

02.03.2008 - 18:28 Written by ß on 01.03.2008 at 18:38 lol, then you could probably get into alot more rappers with snoop on the menu. Him and dre were the Dinamic duo in the 90's. Inseperable, those two. Also, Snoop was (and technically still is) in a rap group called "Tha Dogg Pound" with his cousins Daz Dillinger and Kurupt. They released an album called Dogg Food. Snoop Dogg was also close to Tupac and He's done collaberations with a newer (and one of my all time favorites) West Coast success- The Game. Kanye West and Lupe Fiasco are both on Rocca-fella records, owned by Jay-Z...so, I dunno, maybe you could dig him. And lastly, Common has done work with two of new yorks most gifted and deep MC's, Mos Def and Talib Kweli, as seen in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHReQQnMVQo

Yeah Gravediggaz is definitly something that is worthwhile, I don't own Niggamortis, but damn I wish I did.

I have heard some songs in russian, finnish, hungarian, turkish, persian, polish and I have liked them despite that I don't understand a word. of course, rap might be a little trickier considering it's souch a word based gengre. But I still would like to listen to some though. Anyway, thanks for the recomanditions.

02.03.2008 - 21:55 Written by NOИ on 02.03.2008 at 20:47 Indeed, they are good. But isn't rap and hip-hop quite big in France, even when it comes to the underground scene? Kind of like metal is to the nordic countries? I'm not that good in french either, as soon as you go behind normal conversations and increase the speed, I'm totaly lost, so I can't basicly understand a thing when it comes to French rap. I remember that during one of the french lessons I had back in school, we watched a short documentary about rap in Paris and its suburbs. Can't remember what bands they were interveiwing though...

I think it's bigger in America, with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, The Game and offcourse 50 Cent. but if you say for Europe only, maybe it is. French music is always great, like also French black metal, whatever they do, they do it with passion!

I'm not a fan of rap, and I pretty much hate every single rap "musician" that has been mentioned here so far, but I'd like to recommend Sage Francis to you all. He raps without using the N word (because he's white haha) and his music is actually very MUSICAL. He uses guitars, middle-eastern sounds, pianos, saxophones, steel guitars, etc. and all the beats are done by a real drummer, not that synthetic bass crap. His album, Personal Journals, is one of the most varied albums I've ever heard, but all of his material is very diverse anyways. Please check him out! MySpace <---- listen to the song Broken Wings

there is no reason to hate music my friend. if you don't like Rap you just don't find something good in it, you don't actually hate it, hate is a big word interesting recommendation but I like more hardcore stuff.

I said I hated most of the rappers that have been mentioned, but not the entire genre. I like a few people, like Buck 65, Prolyphic & Reanimator, Bernard Dolan, Jared Paul, some Dr. Dre, Grand Buffet, and Alias. Alias isn't really rap in the traditional sense though. I think they're labeled as electronic shoegaze or something like that, but it sounds like chill rap to me. Sage Francis is my favorite though.

04.03.2008 - 02:01 Written by ß on 04.03.2008 at 00:37 I cannot understand the N word thing you said but maybe this is in 50 cent's rap and mainly hardcore stuff with drugs, violence etc etc. women are actually disrespecting men and that's why men are calling themselves dogs and women bitches. it's a description of life's bad side actually, extremity in the street or in a ghetto and stuff like that, but you can also find rap with political lyrics, especially French do this...

04.03.2008 - 03:20 Written by ß on 04.03.2008 at 00:37 Well, the "N word" actually is something which is massivly misunderstood on so many levels. While not all rappers consider it this, many of them do. anyway, "Nigga" is not a mispronounciation of one of the worst words in the english language, it's an acronym meant to transform it's meaning and take away all of it's negativity, and on top of that, take away the racial charge in it. It's an acronym, and this acronym stands for: Never Ignorant Getting Goals Accomplished So yeah, maybe that'll help the understanding a little. Far as the other things go, yes these are often times abused and unnceceserry, but they are also meant to show (as a previous poster said) the reality of an inner city struggle, an urban war that rages on and on from one man to another.

05.03.2008 - 02:00 Written by ß on 05.03.2008 at 01:33 hey people wake up! these things are only in 50 cent's Rap not in every Rap in the world, especially in European. take the French or the Greek Rap as an example, rarely you can hear this word and it is definitely not in a good Rap group with political or more interesting lyrics. do not hate the genre because of some artists only, it's just like saying "I hate black metal cause Cradle of Filth or Dimmu Borgir are mainstream" ... did get the point ? anyway, if anyone is a fan of Fatal Bazooka here, especially people from France, I want your opinion...

No, you're wrong. It's not just rappers like 50 cent, there are rappers out there whos lyrics are much more meaningful, and still use freequent profanity and the word "Nigga" not that abomidable term that ends with the "Er." The Wu Tang are all very talented, and for the most part deep rappers. They are without a doubt one of the largest influences that the hip hop genre has ever seen due to the alterations of the production stylings that the RZA brought to the table, as well as the lyrical intracicies that they all did. They rap about Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Bhuddism, Taoism, general spirituality, Politics, hip hop culture, and inner city struggles, yet they all still use nigga, and they still cuss. So what, that doesn't mean that they just strive for comercialism and that their raps are shit. It's just real, that's how things are, and without it being sugarcoated it's a more acurate portrayal. Far as european rappers, well, I have nothing against them, and what's more while I may not be heavily into them I do respect them. So my rant was really about the word "nigga" and not about euroupe at all, just clearifying that.
